Are you suggessting there's *anything* further that can be done at this stage, to get people out? I mean they've moved 80k+ folks out in 11 days(!). The outbound flights are basically non-stop involving multiple countries. They're doing the best job possible, given the circumstances.

What am I missing? What is the terrible tragedy here? What's the cause for all the outrage? Besides of course taking cheap shots at the President.


Pentagon Press Sec Kirby confirms that all Afghan Special Forces soldiers who are currently helping with the evacuation (approx. 500-600 in total) will all be evacuated by the US if they chose to leave.

Yes, you send 1BCT 82nd Airborne into Kabul, find Americans and escort them to the ******* airport. Not make your Soldiers hide at the airport and send texts telling people to go to the airport, Taliban says it's ok, no wait, don't go to the airport. You're at the gate? Too bad. Go home. And the circumstances are of our own creation. We can't change them? GTFOH.

I do not give a **** about the sheer numbers and the number of foreigners our military has moved. It's nice we can help those that helped us, but it never should have been our top priority. I do care about the Americans. They should have been the top priority. NOBODY should have been moved until all Americans were out. Period. I know those fancy numbers are a bright shiny object that you can cling to as some sort of measure of success, but it is hardly the most important part of our effort to leave.

If there is one American left in Afghanistan, then you do not leave until you find that person(!). We do not leave people behind. And if you have to stay longer than some stupid self imposed deadline, you do it. I can't believe I have to explain this to another American. If you want to understand the erosion of America in the eyes of the world, look no further than the fact that people like you would throw their hands up, say "What more can we do?", while stranding your fellow Americans in a place that can only be described as hell on earth ruled by terrorists. I mean, we got 80,000 soon to be wards of the state out of Afghanistan. Hooray.

Clearly the facts on the ground, or anything I can say, won’t keep this board from imploding. Not pointing at you, Sarge, just the general tone of this entire thread.

I hope things continue to ramp up and *every single American* is able to leave safely.

Here Tibs, read the article. This was published an hour ago. Nations are halting evacuation operations, leaving their own citizens behind, so our military can wrap up operations and leave. Note the number of Americans still believed to be in Afghanistan. Are you really that blinded by your ideology that you think this is some manufactured outrage to score political points against the President? Trust me, he's causing enough of his own problems, and this is the biggest one at them moment. This isn't a Democrat or Republican problem, it's an American problem. Every one of us should be outraged that this unfolded the way it did, and further outraged at the way it is going to end. Innocent people, including American citizens, are going to be left behind. It's unacceptable. Sorry you don't see it that way.

Why do you take an ideological position on these matters? Why can't we all be American's pissed at our government, not just the President, at ALL levels and how they botched this up? The outrage you're reading about isn't directed at your political ideology, It's directed at Government officials. Like Sarge stated, we're leaving Americans behind and that should piss you off just as badly as the rest of us. The fact that you are here defending your ideology rather than feeling outraged at your government for this monumental fuckup shows who you are. Damnit, we need to be American's first in times like these! Band together and demand more of our representative government regardless of what party they align to. I guarantee there are Republicans in this chain of command and I want them held just as accountable.

I think it's fair to say that is going to be about the end of evacuations of any kind. Said the explosion went off in a crowd of "thousands" with many dead and maimed. I hope there were no Americans in that crowd.

It is fixable. But we aren't going to fix it. It's over. I expect we're about to close up shop and call it good. They had already sped up the timeline based on this threat, so I can't imagine they don't just quit at this point.
