Seven-year-old girl gang-raped at asylum centre in Germany

German police are investigating another horrific gang rape apparently involving a seven-year-old girl who had been living at an asylum centre.

The incident allegedly happened in Hamburg where the girl had been accepted at a first registration home in the city's quarter of Bahrenfeld.

Police were called in the early evening after a report that a seven-year-old girl was the victim of a gang rape at the centre on the Albert-Einstein-Ring road.

The suspected attackers were named in German media as five Arabic men, although it is unclear if they were just visiting the asylum centre or whether they were actually registered and living there.

Obama Offers Brief Remarks on Brussels Attacks, Doesn't Mention Radical Islam

(50 sec out of 60 min speech)

President Obama’s last day in Cuba included a morning press conference where he spoke about Monday’s terror attack in Brussels – but only briefly.

“I’ve come to bury the last remnants of the Cold War,” Obama said.

The Muslim communities that sprung up in places like Brussels and Paris (and elsewhere) have been there for decades. Do I think it's a good thing that they haven't assimilated? No, I don't think that's a good thing.

The current - past half year or so - wave of migrants are 85-90% war refugees fleeing places like Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. I know, as I saw them first hand camping out at the train station three minutes from my place back in July. These were mostly women and children, with a smattering of young men. So without a doubt there is a refugee crisis in Europe, with no end in sight. Surely there are radicals/terrorists that may try to sneak in amongst the refugees. But not really, as most of those radicalized Muslims have EU passports and simply fly in and out of European airports at will. At this stage, most migration has been halted, with hordes of people now accumulating in Turkey and Greece, unable to make their way north. It is a crisis, it needs to be dealt with and I don't think the EU has figured out how to handle it.

What you seem to be implying, that the current "mass emigration of Muslims to Europe" is the reason Muslim fanatics/terrorists have taken over neighborhoods throughout Europe. That is innacurate. Why that was allowed to happen is a question for Euro politicians in the 70's & 80's to answer, as it predates the current migration/refugee crisis.

A larger question is why aren't those EU citizens flying to and from places like Syria, Turkey, Iraq under more scrutiny? Why isn't there a wait & hold process for these individuals at the airports? The Paris terrorists made their way in and out of Brussels airport multiple times (same airport where the bombs went off today). Why aren't these people being questioned? It blows my mind really. Much more of a relevent question than the the percieved danger posed by thousands of migrant families trying to reach Europe.

Same goes for the radical Imans preaching at mosques throughout Europe. And their followers. These are the communities from which these radical muslims come from. They're not just now trying to get into Europe, they've been here for decades. It is an utter failure of intelligence and police work, that these 'cells' have not been uncovered and dismantled.

So what your saying is it was a mistake to let so many in years ago, but it would be a-ok to do so now that so many are becoming radicalized and attacking. Women and children? Doesn't mean they aren't radicalized. The Brussels mastermind is 26. A child not so long ago. Of course, he was born in Brussels but the child of immigrants... at some point don't you put a halt to this and say let's deal with the problems we have now before inviting more in?

I'm not a Trump fan but on this I have to agree with him. It's only common sense not to let hordes of people from areas of the world where there is lots of Islamic fundamentalism and anti-American sentiment into the country.

What do you mean by 'freely'? We have visa and immigration laws. We're not allowing anyone in 'freely'. Have you read the processing refugees go through? Why It Takes Two Years for Syrian Refugees to Enter the U.S.
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...to-apply-to-enter-the-united-states.html?_r=0

Syrians must pass many layers of security checks before being admitted to the United States, a process that can take two years or longer. In most cases, the refugees do not enter the United States until the very end. They are also subject to an additional layer of checks beyond those for refugees of other nationalities; after the Paris attacks, the House voted to further tighten screening procedures. Since 2011, the United States has admitted fewer than 2,000 Syrian refugees.

1. Registration with the United Nations.

2. Interview with the United Nations.

3. Refugee status granted by the United Nations.

4. Referral for resettlement in the United States.

The United Nations decides if the person fits the definition of a refugee and whether to refer the person to a country for resettlement. Only the most vulnerable are referred, accounting for fewer than 1 percent of refugees worldwide. Some people spend years waiting in refugee camps.

5. Interview with State Department contractors.

6. First background check.

7. Higher-level background check for some.

8. Another background check.

The refugee’s name is run through law enforcement and intelligence databases for terrorist or criminal history. Some go through a higher-level clearance before they can continue. A third background check was introduced in 2008 for Iraqis but has since been expanded to all refugees ages 14 to 65.

9. First fingerprint screening; photo taken.

10. Second fingerprint screening.

11. Third fingerprint screening.

The refugee’s fingerprints are screened against F.B.I. and Homeland Security databases, which contain watch list information and past immigration encounters, including if the refugee previously applied for a visa at a United States embassy. Fingerprints are also checked against those collected by the Defense Department during operations in Iraq.

12. Case reviewed at United States immigration headquarters.

13. Some cases referred for additional review.

Syrian applicants must undergo these two additional steps. Each is reviewed by a United States Citizenship and Immigration Services refugee specialist. Cases with “national security indicators” are given to the Homeland Security Department’s fraud detection unit.

14. Extensive, in-person interview with Homeland Security officer.

Most of the interviews with Syrians have been done in Jordan and Turkey.

15. Homeland Security approval is required.

If the House bill becomes law, the director of the F.B.I., the Homeland Security secretary and the director of national intelligence would be required to confirm that the applicant poses no threat.

16. Screening for contagious diseases.

17. Cultural orientation class.

18. Matched with an American resettlement agency.

19. Multi-agency security check before leaving for the United States.

Because of the long amount of time between the initial screening and departure, officials conduct a final check before the refugee leaves for the United States.

20. Final security check at an American airport.

So when Obama gets up on TV and says we have to help our "European Friends" with their tragic "Migrant Crisis" and "Do our Part" and pledges to take 10,000 Syrian Refugees RIGHT NOW (or AS SOON AS POSSIBLE), which of the steps above is he skipping exactly?

You talk all the time about what Trump says but why didn't Obama get up and say "We'll let 10,000 Syrian refugees into the process and in 2 years they will be eligible for residence here in America"? Why didn't he say that if that was what was going to happen?

Maybe he should have, because I certainly got the impression we needed to help Europe NOW and obviously in order to help NOW, the above normal steps better not take 2 years like normal or Obama wouldn't be helping like he promised. Because I could have sworn he said something about this year or soon or right away or something along those lines.

Which means Obama either stood up there and said some of the steps above were going to be "skipped" (just another law he probably doesn't want to enforce) or he lied to me and the American people and Europe. Tell me which, because I honestly don't know anymore.

deljzc, I don't work for the White House, but I presume the refugees would be vetted through the 20-step process as outlined. Perhaps the overall timeframe has been accelerated some. Here's more:

How We're Welcoming Syrian Refugees While Ensuring Our Safety

https://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2015/11/17/how-were-welcoming-syrian-refugees

That’s why, once it was concluded that we can do it safely, the President announced a plan to resettle at least 10,000 Syrian refugees in the United States next year. We remain steadfastly committed to that plan because it is consistent with our values and our national security.

We are going to do the right thing in the right way -- protecting the American people even as we provide refuge to some of the world’s most vulnerable people. Here’s how:

Screening -- Refugees are subject to the highest level of security checks of any category of traveler to the United States, including the involvement of the National Counterterrorism Center, the FBI's Terrorist Screening Center, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State, and the Department of Defense.

All refugees, including Syrians, are admitted only after successful completion of this stringent security screening regime, which includes all available biographic and biometric information vetted against a broad array of law enforcement and intelligence community databases to confirm identity and ensure safety.

This screening process has been enhanced over the last few years to ensure we are effectively utilizing the full scope of our intelligence community to review each applicant.

Mindful of the particular conditions of the Syria crisis, Syrian refugees go through additional forms of security screening. We continue to examine options for further enhancements for screening Syrian refugees, the details of which are classified.

Focus on the Most Vulnerable -- The Administration’s emphasis is on admitting the most vulnerable Syrians -- particularly survivors of violence and torture, those with severe medical conditions, and women and children -- in a manner that is consistent with our national security.

Again, the extremist Islamists are already here, and have been here for decades. It's not a question of "letting them in." We're going through a very liberal "let's let refugees in" type thing, for the better or worse.

If you need a reason to separate the notion of Islamist terrorists and refugees (muslims or not), look at it this way.

Where were we regarding "Muslim refugees" years ago when the ************* from Saudi Arabia perpetrated 9-11? I believe they were here on student visas, no? The Boston bombers? The ****** that shot up the Texas military base? The couple that attacked in San Bernardino? None of these were refugees. In my view, the harsh backlash against refugees is simply scapegoating and chasing shadows.

We need better intelligence tracking of domestic jihadists that live in our cities and towns. We need continued vigilance at our airports and borders, and with regards to student and work visas. Terrorists are too lazy - and impatient - to go through the aches & pains of trying to get in cloaked as refugees from war-torn countries. They fly in business class. Wake up, people.

It did happen with the Boston bombing here in the states. However it seems these guys are having their way with Europe. I think us and Europe should stop letting them in "legally". Immigrants are always going to come into countries some way. But when you promote a country/culture to tolerate and accept a culture that wants to kill you? Thats not right

Why is everyone so upset? It's just the JV team, according to our idiot ******* president.

I'm starting to think France and the land around it have reached a boiling point with no end in sight.

France is 10% Muslim, with too many leaks in the border to prevent Jihad like business transactions of people and equipment. The Muslims who moved there do not want the French culture. They want Sharia Law. The laws of France in many cases are secondary.

Attacks like this are not likely to stop. What can be done?

It's a political mess. France as we know it might never recover. Re-locating 6.2 million Muslims can not be done without major repercussions. France will likely have to cater and re-writer their national character / laws to prevent disaster.

The Entire contention of Europe needs to re-think their immigration policies. In the past people immigrated to seek new opportunities and embrace a new culture. This group wants to take over, and sometimes uses terrorism. Germany I hear is very angry with their Chancellor for taking in those supposedly innocent Syrian refugees.

Meanwhile Obama has made it easier for Iran to secretly acquire nuclear weapons technology and freeing up billions.

This sounds like a disease. Gets into the body and stays dormant for awhile, leads to some small symptoms and then all of the major organ systems start to shut down.

Why is everyone so upset? It's just the JV team, according to our idiot ******* president.

Our idiot ******* president was referring to the fact that ISIS is losing ground in Syria, Iraq and elsewhere. As is the case. That terrorist cells operate around the world, and will continue to do so, is also a fact. The two are not neccessarily connected. Think of the sleeper cells that pulled off 9-11, or the Paris attacks, or these most recent ones in Brussels. International terrorism has been a part of our lives since the 1970's. It's not going to change any time soon. Sometimes it's as little as 2-3 people planning, and carrying out an attack.

But go right ahead and dismiss the job our military is doing in containing the situation in the ME because some local, Belgian born & raised terrorists carried out an attack in the heart of Europe.

ISIS 'is not sustainable' — here's the latest sign the group is losing
http://www.businessinsider.com/the-latest-sign-that-isis-is-losing-2016-2

In January, the US military announced that ISIS had lost an estimated 40% of its territory that it once controlled in Iraq.

In Syria, gains against the group were less pronounced, but the militants are still thought to have lost about 20% of the territory it controlled.

These demoralizing losses are only compounded by recent US-led coalition strikes that have targeted both ISIS oil trucks and ISIS financial headquarters.

These blows have significantly lowered the amount of capital ISIS has on hand — the militants announced in January that fighters in Iraq and Syria would be suffering from a 50% pay cut across the board.

"These issues suggest that as an entity that is determined to hold onto territory, the Islamic State is not sustainable,” Jacob Shapiro, an expert on ISIS and a Princeton University politics professor, told WaPo.

Yeah, I should have put that in qoutes. ;) Funny thing is, foreign policy is the one area I'm probably much closer to being a traditional conservative than what I presume is a liberal view. I guess I'm a liberal when it comes to social & economic issues, and more of a conservative with foreign policy & anti-terrorism. But I would never say such a thing about our president. (cough, unless he was George W., who just ****** so many things up with his ill-timed and misguided shock & awe campaigns).

I hope it works as well as the Federal Background screening used for gun control - you know the same background screening you lefties swear doesn't work properly in THAT regard. But, by gosh, it'll work to vet refugees we can get no information on from their countries. Yes sir.

It doesn't have to be either or...it should be both.

The Boston bombers were the children of refugees by the way. San Bernardino attacker the son of Pakistani immigrants. Nidal Hasan the son of Palestinian immigrants. Seems they immigrated here, took advantage of everything America has to offer and then raised little terrorists. But we want to just keep letting people come here from places where basically everyone hates us. That makes no sense to me.
