The Coronavirus thread

We are being fed a ton load of ****.

I don’t know. While I am inclined to agree, a part of me thinks they just don’t know. They’re guessing. I mean, they can’t come out and say that, because they have to give an air of being in control. I think they are lost like last years Easter egg.

Anybody been to a Home Depot or Lowes lately ? I have been to both stores twice this week and both times the parking lot was full. I should have held on to some of those stocks when I had them.

Remember when you didn't have to wear face masks, because they were only needed if you were infected? It's magic......now we all need to wear them. WTF?
We are being fed a ton load of ****.

The virus lives a long time on surfaces, wash your hands, don't touch your face. But the FDA says you don't need to wipe down your groceries. So here is some actual data and science, which is interesting. Real data/science around this is suspiciously hard to find.

What about all the articles that said sunshine doesn't kill it?

It is obvious that they are guessing. And their guessing has been way off.

I believe we have enough data to make rational decisions. Protect the most vulnerable. Let the rest go about their business. Social distance as much as possible. Wash hands. Don't touch face. Some may wear masks. Sanitize in reasonable way. Rinse and repeat.

Trog will be along very soon to explain why a month ago using masks was futile but is now necessary because he listens to the experts...and they say so.

Izzat Trog, or do they just have the same haircut?

not Flog. the flog has a manbun and its shirt plunges deeper.
I used "it" since I don't want to assume flog's gender or pronoun preference.

Simple as that. This **** will be back in the fall. Prep now.

I don’t trust what is going on...I mean the CDC has a vaccine for the flu (or what strain THEY predict will hit) every year and they still can’t get it right. I wash my hands, Use hand sanitizer sparingly- sanitizer kills off the good bacteria we need to fight infections too and it dries my hands out, and clean commonly touched surfaces as much as possible. Noting different than I was doing before- and I’ve been fine.

Hopefully, in the fall we will have more effective therapeutics for treating bad cases. The elderly will always suffer casualties.
I also think that we will be better prepared in terms of PPE and breakout alerts.

so would you suggest the South Koreans are not doing what they can to slow the spread of the virus? Rather than read what some guy whom you agree with says, why not look at the success stories of countries dealing with the rona?

SK has 10,694 cases and all of 238 deaths.

Wow, are you ******* clueless! South Korea was on top of this from the start because, wait for it... widespread testing! They were where the US currently is two months ago.

They had a commercial on last night from the CDC, Surgeon General, and Fauci telling people that if you suspect you have Covid-19 or have symptoms that match Covid-19, do NOT go to the hospital, clinic...etc. Call your PCP and ask for guidance. What about the millions of people that don't have a PCP. Wait at home until you are in critical condition, then call an ambulance, go to the hospital and it is too late. The CDC and NIH handling of this whole pandemic has been laughable at best and criminal at worst. From initially telling people that masks are ineffective against this virus, to continually changing and adding what the symptoms are for the virus. If they want to know why there are protests, it's because nobody with more than 10 brain cells trusts or believes a word that comes out of any of their mouths. When you are continually proven to be wrong about your assumptions, models, data...etc. eventually people tune it out. Kind of like the boy that cried wolf.

Could that be because the CDC contaminated the original batch of tests that they produced. Doctors were using CDC contaminated tests and raised the alarm. Uh...er...oops.

What about Sweden? Projections currently show 10K deaths out of 10.4 million people with no lockdowns, no closing schools...etc. They are also expected to achieve herd immunity within a matter of weeks.

Exactly. My brother had the Rona but was never diagnosed. He went to the ER with burning every time he would take a breath, shortness of breath- it was so bad that he would be gasping for air after every word he spoke. He had a dry, hacking cough, and chest pain that felt like a heart attack. He never had a fever. NEVER. Because he didn't have a fever, the hospital and docs wouldn't test him. He was in the ER 3 times in 5 days with the chest pains and shortness of breath. He had been in Florida the first week of March- told the doctors that too- but they still wouldn't test. He even got married at a courthouse because he was terrified he was going to get so sick and that his fiance wouldnt be able to get any info or make any life decisions. He was THAT sick and THAT scared. But thanks to the CDC insisting that you HAVE to have a fever to have the RONA, he never got tested. He and his wife self quarantined for 2 weeks. He feels better now and his wife never showed any signs. So **** the CDC,

I'm so sick and tired of hearing this tired testing angle fools like Trog throw around. SK has had fewer deaths because of TESTING..........

Right, because when you get tested you simultaneously get injected with magical fairy pixie antibodies at the same time and voila you're bullet proof!

Seriously. One can argue about who did what first, population sizes, etc. comparing the US to SK, etc. But here is the reality....RIGHT NOW the USA is shut down. And we have been for over a month. There are minor changes per state, but by and large the entire country is shut down. No different than what SK did for a period of time.

So here is my question...IF the whole country is and has been shut down, we are social distancing...how will testing SLOW this virus? How will testing lower death rates? WE ARE LOCKED DOWN. Testing will not affect the #s we see as far as deaths/mortality in any way. It WILL lower the mortality rate as we find more cases. But testing isn't a vaccine and it won't slow, impede, or affect the virus itself in any damned way.

I can see where, early, if we had enough testing...we would use that data to say "woah this thing is a *****, we need to start shutting down." But we implemented the most extreme measures this country has ever seen. To say more testing now or two or three weeks ago would have made a difference in our cases/deaths is spewing nonsense.

so someone tested ONCE can never, ever, ever, ever never, ever get the Rona from that point forward, ever.

is that precisely what you're saying, Captain Dipshit? Because that's exactly how it comes across. the test is only good for THAT SPECIFIC time frame and is not predictive of future acquisition.

In addition, if the study in LA is accurate and as many as 300k have or had the virus, there is no way in hell you can contract trace for 300k people. No way in hell. Quarantine the elderly and those who are immuno-compromised and those in high risk categories. Everyone else, go back to normal. You can then deal with the anomalies of those that have more serious complications of the virus without overwhelming the medical system while also minimizing the fatality rate of the disease. At this point, testing is almost useless and they need to figure out how to manage the cases of those with more serious effects that may require hospitalization.
