The Good

Fly fly fly like a Eagle er a Archer - A flash a dash a slash? we will see but a good start. I like that he didn't force a return and secured the ball on special teams.

Jarvis Jones - A sack and well a sack but in limited play, I'll take it.

Vince Williams - Carried over his training camp intensity. Will solidify depth at ILBer.

Antonio Brown looks ready, Steeler Nation looks ready for some football !

Wheaton made a good reception, but I would like to see more receptions from him.

Bell looked solid running, with limited touches..

Howard Jones had a good heads up play on a lateral...........

Spence and Shamarko looking good out of the gates. Hitting well ... flowing to the ball well............

...........the team escaped the first preseason game relatively healthy

The Bad

The inability to put the ball in the end zone for the offense, which was offensive to the "I' that would be me.

The one long run against the run D early, that looked awfully similar to last years problems with the D giving up too many big plays. 3 Starters weren't in on that gaffe, so I will keep that in mind, preventing me from sliding it to fugly.

The pass rush especially the backups ability to get pressure on the QB needs some help.

The Fugly

Bryant had a growing pain kind of night. A muff on special teams that he managed to recover, then a fumble on the final drive that well he didn't recover. Looks like early we won't be anticipating him being a threat to Wheaton any time soon.

Oh Adams you are looking scary out there, festering , getting beat like a rented mule. You are soft charmin soft and it looks like your game has been regressing.

Landry Jones ........... YOU SUCK................................

and I mean that from the bottttttttom of myyyyy heart

good write up Slash, what about the new kid Punter? How did Ben R. look? Was he trim & moved good?
Lastly, good to hear that maybe williams is getting "it" . Always a treat

Adams to his credit did settle down.. downside cant tell you who he was blocking.

Ben looked fit and ready. A contract year, so look forward to him having a very productive season.

Overall the punter looked good, but one punt gave them the ball on the wrong side of the field. The kid has to be a little more consistent............

Did Adams settle down or did he face worse competition as the game wore on?

The defense looked as fast as it has looked in years...

Unfortunately, they appeared to over pursue several plays, and are verrrry vulnerable to the HB Delay...

That being said- the 1st team Oline and Running game looked solid.

He had one terrible punt which cost us a fg in the end I think. For the most part he was good though, I like his hang time. One punt resulted in a turn over because the returner fumbled it with guys bearing down on him.

I don't ever recall that being the case with the old punter. Sounds like a nice problem to have. I hope new keeps it going and wins the job.
thanks

Landry Jones was OK but Gradkowski wasn't much, if any, better. If Ben doesn't stay healthy, we are in trouble.

I just watched the replay this morning and the thing that stood out the most was this very point. Our back-up QB's will not be anywhere near enough to help us should Ben miss any time. I would take a Giants #17 type guy in a heart beat.

Leftwich /Batch could complete drives

not sure Bruce is giving us that ability, at least not last night

but yeah at this point I wouldn't mind another vet in here and axe the Cincinnati kid. Not like they thought enough of him to let him play..........

Went to the game at the Steeler retirement home out here in the desert last night. They had Max starting at RT and played the entire first half. He held his own and kept the QB clean while he was in there.

Foote is their starting buck and got pushed around while playing just the 1st quarter. To his credit he ALMOST picked off a tipped pass.

And it was clearly evident why Houston had the first pick this year.

I was happy to see Suisham redeem himself. We don't need a confidence issue at kicker.

Same story every year, except the defense isn't as stout as it used to be.
Yes and No. Batch was always able to give us a chance to win and even Leftwich to a certain extent. Landry Jones is getting better but still not there. I don' know if Gradkowski can win a couple games if Ben goes down for a few.

Batch was able to, but the preseason left everyone saying the exact same thing as they are right now.

You would think we can get someone off the cut list to replace Whimper, sad example of a OT. Tomlin should be on Bryant all week. Still can't get why when we were up on the score we don't see if the corners can cover, standing 10 yards from the receivers who can run any route they please we watch five for five right down the field and touch down. What do we get by this coverage????

IMO, Foote needs to retire. He was decent a couple years ago but no way he should be on the field much at all anymore. Glad that Max is doing well, wish we still had him.

Did not see too much good....Archer is fast, Jones had a sack, Ben/Brown looked ok.

Bad...disappointed a bit in defense / OL depth......

Fugly...NFL preseason this year...seems extra sloppy this year with penalties everywhere. Talking about all games, not just the steelers. I found the game hard to watch myself and probably watched more of the pirate game.

Mauro impressed me. He looked very powerful. I'd like to see him do it against better competition.

McCullers also looked good but he needs better conditioning.

I'm feeling better about OLB. Jarvis has at least 1 move now which is 1 more than last year. Chris Carter is playing for a job and has more intensity. Howard Jones looks like a great prospect. I'm still not sold that the pass rush from OLB will be great but at least i no longer feel it will be terrible.

Hopefully Howard Jones can contribute on special teams so he can earn a roster spot.

Justin Brown is getting all the camp praise but once again Moye looked better in the game. Brown didn't look like he was getting much separation.

Archer needs a new number. 13 on a WR hurts my eyes and tempts fate for a guy that i'm worried about his durability.

Zumwalt looked active. He should be a good special teamer and will have to be to make the team. Probably headed to practice squad.

The first punt that went 21 yards was actually a good punt, it landed on the 5 yard line and bounced out to the 12 where it was downed. The problem is we have su h a weak legged kicker the idiot head coach of ours had us punt from their 33 yard line instead of actually trying in a meaningless game condition to see if Suisham can actually hit from 50. More stupid situational coaching from the con man who never learns from prior mistakes.

Moye looked better against the camp bodies, that's true. If I remember right, he had a drop or two against the 2nd stringers. However, it will be an interesting battle between these two over the next few weeks.

I didn't realize the story behind the 21yrd punt. You are right, they should have tried a FG. the rest of the negativity, is respectfully your opinion.

Do we ever start questioning Colbert as a talent evaluator at the quarterback position?

Other than Roethlisberger (who let's face it, wasn't Colbert's call), the guy has drafted Tee Martin, Brian St. Pierre, Omar Jacobs, Dennis Dixon and Landry Jones. He's brought in as free agents Tommy Maddox, Charlie Batch, Byron Leftwich and Brad Gradkowski.

I know Steelers Nation has a soft spot for Charlie Batch and he was a good guy, but look at that list and tell me who really has talent. Isn't that a kind of sad list?
