Tomlin said that at least 25 times in the presser. Sure....but highly simplified. There is a lead up to the weighty downs. Like controlling the LOS. The weighty downs were lost because they were third and two and the Steelers were third and 6. And there were a lot of lack of weighty downs for the 9ers because they converted before.

Several of the players in the locker room after said that they " would not blink" and that gives you a clue about the post game speech from MT. Already talking about not blinking after game one? I can see why they won't blink...you don't blink when you are sleeping. WAKE UP!

Tomlins team got spanked in every facet of this game. But people like him because he talks in riddles and rhymes. Many of his little quips are repeated over and over by football talkers.

This is money. When all you can come up with is we didn't win the weighty downs....it makes me question actual knowledge here.

Do you see a clipboard in his hands or a bunch of staring? That works ok when you have great OCs and DCs. Not so much when you don't. When you don't you get mediocrity at its best.

To me when you have a great offensive mind as the HC you don't worry about that end of it. Then you just need a quality DC which in my opinion with league trends of offensive guys to HC is easier to hang on to. Instead the Steelers have Tomlin, his headset and a whole lot of nothing.

I think Tomlin was referring to yet another Kenny sack.

"Wait, he down?"
Ohh, is that what he was saying? I thought he was saying "80 down". referring to the scoreboard.

Slash, you took the words from my mouth. I was thinking about Shanahan on the Niners sideline with his head stuck in the play/sheet always several plays ahead of Tomlin. Then there is our coach on the sideline with the thousand yard stare trying to coach through emotion.
I’ve said it before that I don’t think he can build or coach a championship caliber team. It was handed to him in 2007. The table was set, complete with players and coordinators. Sixteen years later, now look.

I'd say all the downs are weighty when you have negative yards on offense and no 1st downs late in the first half. But you sure do sound cool Tomlin lol

I wonder if KP gets criticism for saying they couldn't get balance because they couldn't run. Maybe he should have stood there and said weighty down. Weighty down. Weighty down. Like Danny from the Shining.
Pickett took more than his share of blame… and rightfully so, but does Tomlin ever really take blame?

Exactly, reading the PPG which pointed out before that drive at the end of the half, the 49ers had 233 yards to our 1. What the hell is Tomlin talking about. That sort of domination should never happen in the NFL yet all so common when we face a super bowl contending team.

Other teams understand how little certain types of turnovers mean and don’t play terrified of them… that throw into tge corner of the end zone was into really tight coverage. We wouldn’t condone that..
a ton of the niners offense relies on making throws before everything comes open because they trust the design of the play to peel linebackers and safeties off and open stuff up.. over the middle, no less… and they build YAC into the design of the plays

Our offense is built around plays that are heading out of bounds or are comebacks. The real problem is that we are terrified of challenging coverage… the niners use a metric ton of cover 3 formations ( that stuff people ***** about here all the time) there are two good ways to attack that.. the flats, which we used… and the seams.. which we only tried a small amount… we never challenged the deep coverage, even with the super fast CA3… who should be able to split it..

We simply gameplaned ourselves into the short parimeter stuff that is easy to defend and predictable

This here is so money. I'd like to add that on defense they are so occupied with stopping the splash play that they create a huge gulch of real estate that can be exploited any time need be.

They had 4 ******* months to prepare for the game one opponent. What do we get? Same ****. We play checkers, while everyone else is playing chess.
Tomlin took the off season to think up clever catch phrases. Weighty down... Never heard that one before. So, it's not like he wasn't planning all this time. I can't wait for next week's catch phrase..
