Tomlin Deserves Credit

Here I fixed it for you.

123 - 65 -1
8 playoff appearances out of 11 seasons (Could be 9 out of 12)
2 Super Bowls and one victory
No season have we finished below 500
Led our division 6 years

I've never understood the fascination with "No season below .500". So what? If he had 12 8-8 seasons would you still keep him? Probably not. So why does him not having a 7-9 season make it so great? It's one game. And it was usually against the clowns that we got 2 of those games.

I wouldn't fire a coach over one game or a handful of games. I'm sure as hell not going to keep him on because of a handful of games that he won and didn't make the playoffs. If he goes 7-8-1 this year the new company line will be "He's only had ONE losing season"... big deal.

Damn straight Vader. I hate hearing "never had a losing record" as much as I hate Ed Bouchette constantly bringing up last year's 13-3 record. So what, 13-3, then one and done.

You are entitled to your opinion and I’m entitled to my opinion. Doesn’t make any of us right. Arguments can made on both sides.

It is just something else to nit-pick, atl. Not having a losing season is not, in and of itself, something to brag about, but when you throw it in with completely having to rebuild a SB level team and have it back in the AFCCG just 2 seasons ago, it is something very few, if any coaches can do. It is not something an average or below average coach could do.

But if you have a elite QB and a HOF WR, and a solid GM it sure helps.

But it is Tomlin's fault for covering WRs with LBs. It is his fault for going home with a TO in his pocket when they lost the game because they didn't have enough time to score a TD that would have won the game. It is his fault for not look at ILB in the draft when he knew he needed one. Like I said in another thread. Cowher was having to replace players better than Shazier almost every year. It isn't an excuse for doing stupid **** during a game. He's the HEAD coach so he is in charge. If he doesn't want that title then step down to assistant coach.
Lmao at Cowher having to replace players of Shazier's caliber every year. How soon we forget that for YEARS we trotted out Dwayne Washington and Chad Scott as our starting CBs...

Look, I get all the flack Tomlin is getting right now. I'm not happy with a lot of the things going on right now, but let's not rewrite history and claim bullshit like this. Cowher was not a prefect coach, his marty ball style of play cost us plenty. How about the year he started Amos Zereoue ahead of Bettis, or Troy Edward's, or Alonzo Jackson anyone? Cutting Vrabel... The list goes on and on.

Well, it USED, to be Tomlin shoving players down Labeau's throat with, apparently, no input, but nowbit is solid GMing.

The same GM that everyone ******* about not getting good FAs and, is, presumably, responsible for the D we have now. Right?

I find it funny so many people bringing up Cowher. Like he was so much better than Tomlin. Our memory seems to be so short.

Who said this was a Super Bowl level team? Remember it takes 22 players and not 11. Our offense isn’t the problem but defense. A lot of people want to blame Tomlin for our defensive deficiencies.

Not getting good FAs because they are bargain basement shopping.

When you dig in the scrap heap, most will come up with scrubs.

It doesn't look like his D? The Tampa fail.

It was a SB level team. Getting to the AFCCG is pretty close to SB level.

Cowher was 5-1 with a Super Bowl win in 3 years with Ben. Tomlin is a mediocre 8-7 in the playoffs with 1 Super Bowl win with Ben. Cowher averaged 1.67 playoff wins a year with Ben, Tomlin averages a pathetic .67 wins per year with Ben.

Cowher's win loss playoff percentage with Ben was an incredible 83.3 %
Tomlin's playoff winning percentage is a mediocre at best 53.3%

Ben was an immature neophyte with Ben and Tomlin has wasted Ben's prime and greatest years with his awful coaching.

Took Cowher exactly two seasons to win a SB once he had a QB.
Until 1995 he had an above average QB and a top defense and did what exactly with it? I'm tired of the Cowher talk, there were just as many fire Cowher threads back in the day...

You would think all the hate on Tomlin that we don’t have a chance at making the playoffs and winning the Super Bowl another year. Well I guess we have to see which is better than most teams in the NFL. I guess we have been spoiled for winning so much that we can look so hard at why it’s not working and we need something better.

Yeah we have a chance to win the super Bopwl, LMFAO, we will be lucky to make the playoffs but hey Mikey has never had a losing season, **** him. We haven't won **** in 10 years but I guess wasting a franchise QBs prime with one and done in playoffs is the new norm.

A qb he was, essentially, forced to take. The real point is, why didn't we have a better one before?

Bullshit. Rooney said that steered the conversation back to Ben and that it was a group pick. But don't let the facts get into your way. Also please show me the great QB that could have been drafted... just one. It should be easy right?

Well, apparently, the offensive successes are not his, so....

According to you people all the success is Tomlins and all the bad things are Butler's, Porter's, and the players. He gets a pass on everything from you guys. Hell just look at this thread. TOMLIN DESERVES CREDIT... Ok... but now that the team blows he deserves none of the blame. Strange that the very same things he was praised for now he isn't responsible for... strange that.

Seriously? O'Donnell was a 2nd year player with a 2-6 record when Cowher took over. Of his 13 seasons he had 5 winning seasons. ALL but ONE was with Cowher. He was bad before Cowher and he was bad after Cowher. So Cowher gets blasted for making O'Donnell a good QB for 4 ******* years but Tomlin is off the hook for 12 ******* years with a HOF QB. Man you people will do anything to defend this guy. If Cowher had the exact same record with a HOF QB you'd be blasting him. But because its Tomlin then nothing is his fault.
