Trubisky!

I am not even saying Willis is the man- but those holes that you mention mean very little if you have a hole at the QB spot.
They weren't going to fill the QB spot this year. The answer at QB is only going to come through the draft. Just be aggressive to move up when you have the team.

Ben walked into a Championship team and they rode it to a Super Bowl, it's only more pronounced when the QB has low cap hit for 5 years. KC about to find out what it feels like to pay more than $7M of cap for the QB.

you don’t get drafted #2 overall for no reason. He was picked ahead of Mahomes and at the time, few disputed that. He still has big upside and has not been in a good situation yet. In a year without a good draft option, this is a great move…
At least we know he more likely to succeed than Ryan Leaf.

Let’s pray he’s better than the last cast off Bears QB we got
Tomczack was a backup and what's more, he knew it. A vet backup who can give insights to the starter is actually kind of valuable.

The great sign is that now, several hours later, neither Biscuit or his agent are spouting off about the contract. Hopefully this means a deal that leaves space to sign OL/DL/CB/WR/ILB help in FA.

That is why I keep harping on protecting draft capital, getting an extra early pick, protecting the 3rd and 4th round picks, so the team can deal their #1, another #1 the next year, and something like a #2 to move up 10-12 spots to get a guy like that.

This assumes that we can find a trading partner. It also assumes that next year's QB class is ACTUALLY better, which no one can truly predict. Everyone just says "next years class is light years better" but look what happened this year- Caleb flamed out at OU, Howell underperformed, Malik had his struggles. You could easily find yourself with the same sort of options next year.

If he sits, and if he learns, and if he gets more accurate, and if he develops, and if if grandpa had ****, he'd be grandma.

I believe you are using this analogy incorrectly, as it meant to counter an impossible hypothetical. Malik sitting for a year and improving is hardly impossible. A guarantee? No. But we have clearly seen this occur throughout the league.

You're just rolling the dice with those guys. Okay. But getting a QB who can actually start helps the team do so next year and 2023, with better QB crops. Some years are just not good for QB drafts. Why force it?

2019 had Kyler Murray, who I thought was "ehh." He is better than that but went 1-1. After him, Daniel Jones? Dwayne Haskins? Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen in 2018? Examples of teams forcing picks in a bad QB crop.

No one is saying we should trade the farm for a QB this year. My point is- the team has done its HW on these guys, if they feel that one of them is 'the guy', you DO NOT WAIT.

You seem to want a 'lay-up' choice for QB and that will NEVER be the case. Take your own example! Darnold and Rosen's class was considered a QB heavy draft, and look how they turned out! The high ceiling/low floor prospect ended up being the most successful of them all (Lamar).

Marcus Mariota said hold my beer. Ryan Leaf will just ask for an Oxycotin. Rick Mirer is happy to be forgotten.

Joey Harrington, Akili Smith and Blake Bortles are somewhere happy they went #3 overall so not grouped in with the horrible #2 overall picks.

There is something to be said about not being in an ideal situation and benefitting from a change and scenery.

However, any Steelers fan who says they're confident in Tomlin and Canada's ability to get the most out of a QB like Trubisky, they're lying.

Still, it's not a bad signing, as it provides decent competition for Rudolph.

I like the move and now they need to get to working on fixing the ground game. As of now, though, it looks like they're running back at least 60% of one of the worst offensive lines in football.

Trubisky 2020 highlights. Gotta click and watch on YouTube

Just watched this. It's a Robinson/Graham highlight reel. for the #2 pick in the draft, Trubisky's passes have no zip. Most of the passes to Robinson should have not been catchable.

What I do like is the touch on his passes on the move and boot. And his ability to break the pocket with his legs. Those are all plus athlete plays, but compared to Ben, he does not have his arm strength and it isn't close.

I know you are a Haskins pimp, so I’ll bet you a 6 month subscription payment against a 3 month one he isn‘t the opening game starter.
I'm not pimping him at all. All I want is to see the kid get a real chance with the 1's. Against the 1's.

Big difference than pimping him...

Ryan Leaf didn't make it 3 full years in the league and was an alcoholic. I'm glad he got in control of his demons after football.

Chicago also believed in Trubisky and committed to him as the QB. When Haskins was drafted, the coaching staff didn't want him. 2 completely different situations. Which is why our coaching staff works with our FO people to draft players.

WAS also had 3 HCs in his 2 years there. WAS is a dumpster fire.

This comes up video unavailable. Sorry it was just kind of funny.

Look Trabinski was on my list of rehabilitation QB Gambles I didn’t mind them making… he occasionally flashed, and he has real potential, but lets not lose sight that he is still a massive gamble and a bust to date… for all his crowing about learning in Buffalo, in the only non pre season game that he threw more than one pass in last year he went 3/5 for 19 yards with a pick… not exactly proof he turned anything around

Again this is an attempt to rehab a guy that has some problems, not a surefire starter type.. people point to his final few starts in chicago as him turning things around, and hopefully so, but remember nobody wanted to gamble on him as a starter last year…

I wouldn’t get my hopes up too high… there is still a real chance he isn’t the answer even this year here…

By control of his demons, you mean he only occasionally goes to jail every couple of years right? I mean we are what…Two years removed from his last fuckup? He is probably due for another… they usually come about ten minutes after some story about how he finally got his life together this time for realsy…..

Haskins sucked when he was in Washington. Trubisky really didn't. He wasn't great like Mahomes who was in his draft class but he wasn't bad. Chicago was a bad team and they threw him to the wolves. Hopefully, they didn't ruin him as the Clowns did to so many QB's. He got to sit behind a similar QB in Allen and learn for a year. Hopefully, that did him a lot of good. But, if not, he is only on a 2-year deal. I still expect us to be looking to draft a QB next year or the year after. But, Trubisky, Rudolph, and even Haskins will have basically their last shot to be a starter in this league.

But it’s not when you and Supe take turns thinking you’re being clever by posting in Ebonics? Please.

There's a clear difference in imitating a dialect v insinuating someone speaks a certain way. I can speak ghetto, rap, and try to dance like a rapper and not be offensive. You cross a line when you infer that a person would speak that way because of the color of their skin.

You have no idea how Dwayne speaks. You're inferring he speaks in a stereotypical way.

Massive difference.

Oh, and your dog hates you.

My dog had the time of his short life so far with us that day and was literally the life of the party. Met easily 150 college kids, all who gave him love. Wagged that big old lovable tail the entire time.

I've spent my life rescuing dogs and that was one of the best days any of my dogs have had.

Got a lot of treats too. So did his beagle brother.

Try having some fun in your miserable life Floggy.

Meh tell them “AX” is proper yinzer terminology anyhow… you weren’t being racist, just putting a Pittsburgh accent on it lol “ax about warshing your landry dawn by the slippy crickbed”

Wait is Pittsburghese racist?
Is Pittsburgher a race?
Is cityism a thing?

Or Trubinsky could turn out. He had some good moments in Chicago but I thought he lost confidence and regressed. We'll get a chance to see if there's anything there without using draft capital or being locked in long term.

I'm way more pleased with this than I expected. Worst case scenario he sucks (which I don't expect) and we move on.
I'm not disappointed at all, not getting excited either... We added another average QB to the roster to be a bridge. It was a necessity going into 2023. I lived the years between Bradshaw and Ben this is what we have now.

I lived those years too. Part of my enthusiasm is relief that we didn't reach for a QB in the draft that likely isn't there or overpay in a trade for a high priced QB that really wouldn't help us because there's so many other holes that would go unaddressed. I do think Trubinsky has a chance to be a 2nd tier QB though.

I know it just made me laugh. At first I thought he was being funny. I know Trubisky wasn’t the most popular option

OK didn't quite get it but I guess empty highlights would send a point lol
