Trubisky!

I am not even saying Willis is the man- but those holes that you mention mean very little if you have a hole at the QB spot.

Two points:

1. There is no clear franchise QB in this draft. As many have discussed over the past two months, one of the QB's might be really good. It could be Desmond Ridder, it might be Malik Willis, it could be Derek Strong, maybe it's Kenny Pickett. But none of those guys is a top-tier prospect worth using the #20 pick.

2. The Steelers have an NFL-caliber starting QB in Trubisky. Good arm, mobile, threat to run, moves around the pocket well, two playoff games already under his belt, or two more than Rudolph, Haskins and every QB prospect combined. He won a division title and a wildcard spot with mediocre Bears team, featuring guys like Taylor Gabriel, Trey Burton, Anthony Miller and Darnell Mooney as the #2 receiver and Jordan Howard as the #1 RB.

Wouldn’t that be Haskins?
Maybe.
Maybe both of them.
I think they both just saw their shot at starting fade off into the sunset.

MT has been bouncing from one place to another... I think the bigger deal is that there will be some competition amongst all the subpar QBs on our roster and whoever that is so be it...

Maybe you're right.
I just see Mitch as a better prospect of leading our O than Mason or Dwayne.
I base this on the limited tape of each in starting roles, who they're surrounding cast was, what they did with it.
I'm not saying Mitch is a savior.
Just saying I see him as the #1 unless Mason or Dwayne beat him out in camp......which I don't see happening.

Why would it be Haskins? The consensus has been that Haskins would compete for the backup spot and had nowhere else to go anyway.
Nope, it would be Mason doing the "Axin for a trade". ;)

If you consider 4 years in Chicago and one in Buffalo "bouncing". It's not like he's been Teddy Bridgewater or that ilk.

I was joking that Haskins would be more likely to “ax” for a trade.
Ahhh, I see what you did there. An attempt to be funny using "ebonics" because Haskins is black. Funny ... not funny.

I don’t think he was signed to ”start” as much to insure he’d have a starter in case the youngsters stink it up. I think we’ll draft a qb and trubisky will fight it out with the two on the roster right now the loser getting cut, the rookie getting the third spot… reminds me of signing Mikey tomzck same situation

I'm really pleased with this.

1. Only a 2 year contract.
2. It takes away Canada's excuse that he needs a mobile QB to run his offence. If we went with Rudolph he still has that excuse. Now if it doesn't work he's finished.
3. Trubinsky had a 29-21 record with a not very good Bears team, made the playoffs and a pro bowl.
4. It allows us to address other areas of concern while expectations are low.

It's nice to have a great QB but having a confident one that plays well is good enough. Trent Dilfer, Joe Flacco, Nick Foles and Brad Johnson have won as many Super Bowls as Aaron Rodgers and one more than Dan Marino. Fix the OL because nothing shatters a QBs confidence like getting his brains beat in.

The above says it all...The season should be worth a watch at least after having our focus on drafting or F/A what we really need.

I have enjoyed reading on SM of the fans jumping off bridges with this signing. You'd think the Steelers brought Duck back. It's comical, actually.

Well he is not my favorite QB, but considering he was a free agent and didn't use draft capital in not against the deal. Not sure what the $$ is, but I think he is a much cheaper version than Jimmy G or Wentz. Mitch has been all over the map performance wise so it's hard to say what we are going to get. I think it was a couple years ago he put up a couple games with unreal stats, but was unable to keep the momentum. I think Mitch is better than what we have, just hope he is not totally hamstrung by our playcalling. If we build the line up we might be OK st least talent wise offensively.

Sounds like he really wants to play for the Steelers. Sometimes that enthusiasm is better than all-out talent. I have a good feeling about this year.

That type of enthusiasm to play for the Steelers made BJ Finney a solid swing IOL for a few years. Then he left and went downhill.

I don't disagree, Bridgewater, same thing... Mitch and Haskins are both high round draft picks that no one seems to want to invest in long term in. They are both maybe middle of the road QB's stop gap players.

Especially since he signed a 1 year deal in Buffalo in anticipation of leaving for a starting opportunity.
I see Mitch for what it is, he is that bridge QB that the Steelers can have on the cheep until we get our franchise QB. He will either stay on as a #2 or look for that next bridge job when that happens. I'm glad we have some QB competition going into next year, will be a good thing.
