On Wednesday news broke that the Pittsburgh Steelers were interested in Deshaun Watson, and that Watson preferred to play in Pittsburgh. Now the sticking part? Watson has a Grand Jury hearing set for today at 2pm ET in regards to multiple sexual assault accusations.
In a courtroom in Harris County, Texas, a Grand Jury will hear evidence and testimony in regards to 10 criminal complaints filed against Watson last year for charges ranging from misdemeanor indecent exposure to felony sexual assault.
At the same time, Watson will be deposed under oath for 22 civil cases filed against him concurrent with the criminal charges filed.
Several of the women were subpoenaed to testify on Friday.
Upon hearing all evidence and testimony Friday, the 12 jurors will then decide whether to indict Watson on any of the charges brought against him. If 9 of the 12 jurors decide to indict Watson, the district attorney’s could then decide to continue with criminal charges against Watson.
In Texas, indecent assault is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail and up to a $4,000 fine. Sexual assault is a second-degree felony, punishable by between two and 20 years in prison.
According to Watson’s lawyers, Watson will choose to plead the fifth on any questions involving the civil suit that he’s also facing and only focus on the criminal complaints.
So what we know for sure is that we should find out whether the DA’s office will continue to bring the case of criminal charges against Watson by sometime after 2pm. If that does happen, Watson could begin to see light at the end of the tunnel for his NFL career. If he’s indicted then it’s back to the drawing board for teams like the Steelers.
The bad part of all of this is that Watson could still be suspended by the NFL even if he’s found of no wrong doing on either scenario. And that suspension is thought to be at least 6 games.
Strap up SteelerNation, it could get interesting this afternoon, or it might be another slow Friday.

“I’m not going to let him answer questions from anybody before that grand jury has made its decision. There’s not a lawyer in the country that would,” Rusty Hardin, Watson’s lawyer, told ESPN. “Once the grand jury process is concluded we intend for him to start answering questions in depositions.”
