William Jackson lll to Steelers

Let's make a move. TJ Watt for future considerations. Hey its a move. Sell right now. Don't buy. Buying is stupid when you are ******. Clear cap don't add. There will be 5 WJIII available in Free agency. What a nimrod show.
I really liked Jackson coming out of college and was furious when Cincinnati took him the pick before ours. Unfortunately though I have to agree with you about using this much cash when it could of been spent on a CB, OL, LB, DL, WR, ETC during 2023 free agency.

Sometimes when these deals are made the monetary details come out a bit later. If Washington is picking up some of the remaining salary it might not taste as bad.

I really liked Claypool coming out of College. Though not as rabid as coolie is on the Cougars I'm an Irish fan and a Canadian. BUT, considering their wr situation vs. there OL front 4 deal, I'm ok with that move. This is a dumb *** move literally out of nowhere. The dude was heading to waivers and if the Steelers aren't in the best position to get him off there are like 4 other teams.

Steelers can cancel the deal if he doesn’t pass a physical.

Giants WR Kadarious Toney didn’t play at all this year with injuries, then he was traded and declared himself healthy. Let the Drs take a look at Jackson.

people bitched about the Minkah trade also

I don't care about the draft pick. It's the cap hit.
I would think they told the guy they would have to do something with his contact or no? Kind of a wait and see.

People keep saying maybe this will be like the Haden Deal. Or now the Minkah deal. First off this guy has no where near the credentials. Secondly, do you see heads on a coin flip and somehow think that effects the next toss?

WLIII!!!!!!!

half the board ******* the Steelers never make any moves and the same group ******* when they do

Yes I love the move mainly because he is out of UH. I really wanted him then the ******* bungles ruined it

If he shows to be half of what he was coming out of college Omar will find a way to make the money work
Cripes Coolie, why is there all this conniption on his contract. PIT is on the hook for 3+ mil the prorated salary this year. That’s it. There is no Cap Hit to worry about. He is due $9 mil IF he makes the team next year. He’s due a $2.7 mil roster bonus on March 17. Seriously doubt he gets that or the $9 mil if he stays. He will be released or take a significant restructure. He’s already made the majority of the $40 mil contract from his SB with WAS.

Folks need to calm down and keep the mojo going to fire Canada.

no one said this was like the Minkah deal. The Steelers gave up a 1st for him

the only comparison is the team stunk when they made the Minkah deal and it stinks now

If it works out AWESOME

if it doesn't oh well they took a shot

they did something to try and improve a ****** secondary

I thought the 9M next season were guaranteed, dead cap hit.

Steelers acquired CB William Jackson from the Steelers.

This one comes as a bit of a surprise after the Commanders seemingly gave up all leverage on Tuesday when they announced they'd likely release Jackson if they could not reach a deal by the trade deadline. Washington has a chance to get out of a bad contract with this trade, as Jackson, who was benched in Week 5, has underwhelmed in his first two seasons with the team. Jackson signed a three-year, $42 million deal last offseason, and would be due $9 million by the Commanders if they were to cut him after this season. The two sides are also expected to swap late-round picks in the deal.
Am I the only one who is wondering how the Steelers acquired a player from themselves?

I didn't claim either. I am just saying that contract can be adjusted and in the past that is what they have done. Don't see why this time would be the time they wouldn't.

Nope. He has a base salary of $9.25M (Not guaranteed), a roster bonus of $2.5M (obviously not guaranteed), a workout bonus of $250,000 and assorted other bonuses that bring his cap hit to $12.75M in 2023. Guess how much the Steelers are on the hook for if he's released .... Hint, it rhymes with hero.

I wasn't infeting you were one of the people in the Minkah Haden deal. BUT we have always disagreed about the validity of the Steelers kicking salary down the road. And that is the only other thing they could do in this situation.

Not the only thing. He doesn't make the roster before money is due next year....one avenue.

Damn common sense is not allowed around here...

Interesting that Spotrac is treating the 2023 money as if it's guaranteed while Overthecap is not. Knowing which was true, rather than speculating would make the whole discussion better.

I am just thinking or trying to think like they tend to approach trades. I think they would have been more receptive to the trade with no large chunk guaranteed.

Spotrac doesn't even follow their own contract breakdown when assigning a $9M dead cap hit to the Steelers if they release Jackson after the season.
Their breakdown of the contract he signed with Washington notes that ONLY $26M was fully guaranteed. Of that $26M, $16M was paid in 2021 in the form of a signing bonus and salary. In 2022, the other $10M in guarantees was/will be paid in the form of a $5M roster bonus and $5M in fully guaranteed salary. That's it. Guaranteed money for this contract is/will be fulfilled at the end of this season. No further guarantees exist (at least according to Spotrac's own contract breakdown). Therefore, there can be no $9M dead cap hit if he's released since he's guaranteed nothing next year.

I will be clear. If the Over the cap is correct I have zero problem with the trade. 6 for a 7th for a guy with upside and just the 3 million and change you could have saved towards this next year's cap unspent. No problem. If it's 9 to cut him. Big problem.
