William Jackson lll to Steelers

I will be clear. If the Over the cap is correct I have zero problem with the trade. 6 for a 7th for a guy with upside and just the 3 million and change you could have saved towards this next year's cap unspent. No problem. If it's 9 to cut him. Big problem.
Going by Spotrac's contract breakdown (link above), Over the cap is correct. He's already been paid all of his guaranteed money.

Thanks Buckeye.
No cap hit makes this a good deal. Like a half season trial for a CB1 next season, sorta like the Haden situation.

I don't need Omar to tell me how this is. If he doesn't fit and right now he can't play its 9 million ****** dollars against the dap next year. 9 million. 13 for him to play if he is the ***** but they are embarrassed about the move.
I think we need to see how this plays out.

The #Steelers will get a $3.1M look at William Jackson for the remainder of 2022. They then hold a $12.75M "option" for 2023 with which they'll have to decide on by March 17th, when a $2.5M roster bonus is due.

Same… if he could be cut with no repercussions thats a totally different ball of wax… there is a roster bonus and some guaranteed money, but not clear what that is…

I would think they told the guy they would have to do something with his contact or no? Kind of a wait and see.
Slash I’m thinking the same thing. Omar if he knows anything it’s the financial side and I have to think there’s something here we don’t know.

There is no guaranteed money unless he is on the roster in the second week of March (Roster bonus). The workout bonus doesn't apply unless or until the roster bonus kicks in.

What in the ****? They are ******* cap for a cb with a bad back… Kahn is a total moron… they are 2-6… adding big pieces was utterly stupid…
They want to look like they are doing something, and they are it's just not productive like maybe firing the coaches that need fired. Trading Claypool was as equally idiotic as trading for this guy. The hits just keep coming. When will they issue the paper bags for fans at the stadium?

bring your own

trading claypool was not idiotic and a 2nd for him is a solid return

rolling the dice on WJIII is an AWESOME move

There is some rumblings that he was becoming a locker room distraction. If that is found to be true I could see some motivation to move him besides the return value.

Maybe trading Claypool was not that bad as he is too inconsistent. The other guy is hurt and how much of that contract do they have to eat? We need lineman not DBs.

If that is true then I agree, set the example now.

Witherspoon was shakey this season. And upon return from injury looked like hot garbage and was benched. Levi is hurt. A CB was needed....

that question has been answered in this thread

I agree about Witherspoon, but I would have liked to see them try to pick up an O-lineman..I get they are hard to come by, but get anybody, ANYBODY..the guys we got are pretty much worthless.

I think the worst two is Moore and BigDot. LT isn't an easy position to play but yeah some upgrades are still needed.

I personally think that was leaked to ease any backlash on the trade. He showed some frustration on the sidelines and directed comments toward Canada, but nothing seemed out of line and there wasn't any rumblings prior to today.

Yeah the Pittsburgh media is notorious for this stuff… especially with the Pens… theyd make a totally asinine trade and as soon as any negative whispers show up, the media would allude to some overblown fictional flaw that made them need to move the guy… then it would never be a thing for the rest of the guy’s career lol…

Claypool didn’t start a fight with the starting qb and his comments were 40% as divisive as DJs have been … but he got dealt because lets face it, he needed developmental work and Tomlin’s staff does not do that ****…

Nope. He has a base salary of $9.25M (Not guaranteed), a roster bonus of $2.5M (obviously not guaranteed), a workout bonus of $250,000 and assorted other bonuses that bring his cap hit to $12.75M in 2023. Guess how much the Steelers are on the hook for if he's released .... Hint, it rhymes with hero.

Thanks for posting that link. Makes me feel much better about the trade, but still not sure why they wouldn't have just waited and picked him up on waivers instead.
Even if they're happy with him, $13 million next year is still a lot for a 30-year old guy with potential back issues.

Funny, now both of the Jacksons at cornerback who I liked in their respective drafts (William in 2016 and Josh in 2018) are now Steelers.

As a vested veteran, he wouldn't have been subject to waivers when Washington released him. He'd have immediately become a free agent. And, to be honest, as a free agent, if a bottom-dwelling team comes calling, I'm waiting to see if there's a better offer. I think they snapped him up in a trade because they felt like he wouldn't come here willingly. Sad.

That makes it palatable… i still think its stupid to be adding to try to win at this point… even if it was only a sixth… I definitely do not want tied up with a cb with back issues and a steep price tag thats not cuttable… i admit i was totally reading that sportstrac stuff as he guaranteed his money by playing this year… even before the trade it was displayed poorly on that site… if we can cut him and not sink our cap thats not too bad, even if we wasted a couple mil of cap this year…
