This story exemplifies everything - every tiny little thing - fundamentally and existentially wrong with liberal government.
The guy had a pet chipmunk, Peanut, rescued after his mom was run over. Peanut lived in the guy's house for 7 years and became a bit of an internet celebrity with his comfort around the owner, wearing hats, and the like. The owner, Mark Longo, used Peanut to raise money for animal rescue, and his efforts led to thousands of animals being saved from bad living conditions, abuse, or just bad luck.
So the lefties in New York where Longo and Peanut live went into Longo's home when he was away and took Peanut and another pet, a raccoon, and killed them. Yes, authorities BROKE INTO A PEACEFUL CITIZEN'S HOME TO GRAB AND KILL TWO PETS.
Of course they lying government scum are stupid, but not quite stupid enough to believe they can get away with this, so they immediately employ one of the only three things the government does well:* They lie. They claim Peanut and the raccoon had rabies.
