OT Mike Adams has been one of the bigger surprises in the preseason. Yes, that Mike Adams, the one who was a second-round pick in 2012 and lost the starting left tackle job last season. Adams, working on the second team, has posted solid back-to-back preseason games and has increased his stock from a bubble player to solid depth. Adams credits new offensive line coach Mike Munchak for his resurrection. “Just kind an overall understanding we have as an O-line this year,” Adams said. “Coach Munch has done a great job teaching us technique-wise, assignment-wise. Just working and trying to correct a lot of the mistakes that I’ve been making.”

Maybe the big guy is playing better then we.think. I did see him get walked back on Landry's fumble. I would like to see him still used in that third TE role sometimes to take advantage of his run blocking.

with Gilbert locked up, I see him to push really hard next camp for the LT job and we could possibly have a solid starting 5 of
Adams Beachum/Johnson Pouncey DeCastro Gilbert

Maybe I missed something but he seems to have regressed over the years. Last year, I thought he may have been still recovering some strength from the stab wounds, but I don't remember thinking "wow, he has improved over last year" when watching the preseason games. He hasn't been going up against first team guys has he?

I think Adams makes it because of the draft pick invested and even though his pass protection is subpar his run blocking is and always has been good. If they see improvement from OTA's to his camp I think he beats out Whimper. I doubt anyone rushes to grab Whimper if we cut him so if injury happens we can grab him off the scrap heap later in the season. Adams though because of his age(just turned 24) would get scooped up if we cut him. I don't plan on Adams every being a LT, but with some coaching maybe be a quality backup RT and who knows maybe a serviceable LT in a pinch. I don't think I'd ever leave Adams at LT without a RB/FB or TE helping on his side but you can game plan around helping your LT with chips and TE help enough to not expose his weaknesses too bad.

Adams is improving. His footwork is lightyears better than it was last season. Last year he didn't bring his feet with him on any play and was easily beaten around the edge by rushers. So far this preseason his technique is way better.

Good enough to start? No, but let's put it in perspective - Adams was so awful it was thought he might not make this years' team just 3 months ago. (Which was never gonna happen: he's a high pick with huge potential in only his third year but I digress.)

My hope is that Munchak can rebuild him into starter quality and on the outside chance a quality left tackle. We'll see I guess.

Munch has probably had to rebuild this kid from the ground up...it should take a little time before we see it all coalesce.

Man I hope he gets his pass blocking together. In the giants game Pierre went right through him like he wasn't even there.

Not sure WTF they are watching but Adams hasn't been that impressive to me. But they aren't going to cut him. He is the only "depth" they have at tackle. They can always put a fulltime TE on his side if either RT or LT get hurt.

I have to agree- I havent seen all that much improvement from Adams...

But when you consider how bad he was last year, if he even improves to 'slightly below average'- that would be an improvement.

Still- I give him at least 1 year after the stabbing to recover before I start to call him the B word...

that's exactly what i was thinking...
he was so ******* awful...just being awful would be listed as a marked improvement

So, instead of us being constipated, we now have diarrhea...GREAT...

Well, we all seem to think the world of Munch. Lets give it a little time and see what magic he actually has. Prove your worth Mike, both of yaz!!!!!!

Salute the nation

That is I think the most telling statement right there. It does not say he has corrected the problems. It says he has been shown what the problems are and he is working to correct them. Based on the *** hats we have had coaching the line in the recent past there may be a reason for slow development. Pouncey appeared to be better before he was coached by our guys in the recent past, so did DeCastro, Gilbert has not exactly set the world on fire either. Beachum has been a pleasant surprise by contrast. In hindsight maybe our players were not as bad as we have labeled them, but perform the way they were coached.

not only no, but hell no

he played with the 3rd team offense and stunk
