Canada FIRED

I would be ok with Lefty-but he did have Tom Brady and early on he had Winston. Brady was Brady. Winston was ok. If they were to bring in an advisor/consultant at this point-that would be wise. You wouldn’t have to change terminology. You could get a fresh experienced offensive mind in. If this is something they would consider someone like Nagy for-ok. I just wouldn’t hire him as my coordinator. Other ones out there-Ken Whisenhunt, Haley, Lefty, hell, be bold and see if Peyton Manning would come in as a consultant (pipe dream)

They changed something at least. That was the biggest need. So I don’t mind riding out Pickett the last seven games to see if it’s him or Canada or what I personally believe. Both. But I guess we’ll see. No Canada scapegoat now. Im sure the ones who refuse to criticize Kenny will instantly blame Sullivan or Faulkner. But the rest of us will know.
Hopefully we will use the entire field now. If not .....the problem will either be Tomlin or Pickett. 🤔

Since we are all speculating that ARll did the firing .... Which is true, as he is the owner and had to sign off on it anyway .... How about we speculate this.
It has been reported that Tomlin was kinda upbeat after the loss Sunday.

Is it possible, especially given the Steelers history of not firing OCs during the season, that Tomlin went to ARll earlier about firing Canada and Deuce said no? Or, I haven't seen enough to fire him based on our record. Is it also possible that Tomlin was upbeat following Sunday's loss because he felt he now had enough ammo to take to Artll to get him to sign off on firing Canada?

I think this is at least as likely as Deuce making a "call from above". My personal belief is that Tomlin wanted to fire Canada after the Houston debacle (when he said "changes are coming") and Art ll said there wasn't enough "stink" to the offense for him to sign off on the firing.
All possible. Dulac is the one who said the firing came down from Rooney. Dulac is not always correct but he is correct more often than not and more often than other Pittsburgh sports guys.

They were not going to go outside the organization in season.
I understand and agree.
But just give it to one of them.
Too many cooks in the kitchen.......which I believe is the problem with all of Mike's yes men he's had at DC and OC. They're OC/DC in name only and Mike feels the need to come in and add his 2 cents at every turn.
So now we'll have three people essentially being OC instead of the two we had with Tomlin and Canada.

All those thinking KP will instantly change are delusional. He will still need the rest of the season to get the stench of Canaduh off of him and he will need to hopefully learn a much better O this offseason from an entirely new coaching staff. Sullivan or whoever will just be calling the same nonsense Canaduh was but hopefully with a little more creativity in when to call what. You still have to give KP next year, just as some other very good QB's have gotten (Allen for one), to truly see what he can become in the NFL. Firing Canaduh was just step 1 and now we hope he didn't completely ruin KP as the Clowns have done to so many top QB's entering the NFL from the first round.
All we need is to at least the KP we had at the end of last year along with some simple new route concepts. That should be easy to add. Use the middle of the field and make it the first read.

Pickett has to feel better right now at the very least. That’s gotta be worth something in terms of performance.

I expect more of the same Sunday. Real change will not come until Tomlin is gone. Look at our DC , Austin is terrible, but he still has a job. He get's bailed out by amazing talent every week.

I think they look different and slightly better this Sunday but regress back to what we have seen the past 3 years.

Canada admitted this is the offensive style dictated to him, we know this is the offense Tomlin wants, that doesn’t absolve Canada for how terribly it was excuted tho, even this flawed approach by Tomlin should yield better results than this trash.

Let’s not absolve Pickett for the dozens of times he ignored or missed wide open receivers

On normal wide NFL teams the clock should have been ticking on Tomlin and Picketts time here a long time ago

I don't think changing the verbage should be that hard. lol.
You have three crayon induced plays. It shouldn't even be mission difficult.

I will say at least Sullivan has NFL OC experience. I am excited to see how this plays out.

Just steal what the 9rs and texans do with their young guys… stroud throws MORE bad passes than pickett yet almost never gets picked off
most of the primary throws for those teams are built to be efficient, effective and if all the other routes are run right, really safe ..

The Steelers should bring in an outside advisor to help shape the O strategy.

If Deuce really is not happy with Tomlin, this is an obvious move.

If this is Tomlin getting Deuce to fire a friend, then it will be all internal guys with a similar philosophy and results.

Quoted for TRUTH and FACTS!

A large majority of OTA’s and offseason are spent on verbiage/terminology while installing an offense. Changing that now can cause problems during game time. One thing at a time during this transition

This made me laugh.
Think he took the remaining crayons with him upon departure or did he power it down like a true swordsman?

He took his stuff with him. I hope so anyway. All of his stink needs to go.

It really is hard to imagine how this could possibly become worse for this offense.
If nothing else happens, there is hope for the future which I, like many of you, did not have much of yesterday.

We run routes over the middle. It’s already documented that Pickett missed an open DJ in the middle of the field that might have been the game winning touchdown. Some say it wasn’t his primary read but it looked like that’s where his head was aimed. He didn’t anticipate and ended up scrambling while DJ is alone by 10 yards with no one on him. I don’t know how we can blame Canada for that but somehow many have.

The plays we run every team runs. The problem I had with Canada was there wasn’t any wrinkles to throw a defense off. Give a look and do something else. It was easy for a defensive player to know what was coming. So those are easy adjustments to put into a game plan and that can be accomplished this week. You put in a half dozen plays out of formations you run and you put a wrinkle in. Then you ad every week.

But here’s the thing. If Kenny is struggling to find the open guy now how is he going to do with option routes and wrinkles to the offense?

Guess we’ll see if they do and if so how Kenny does.

The philosophy wasn’t the greatest, guys were getting open but other parts were obviously predictable. A good advisor can take what they have currently and make it better. Heck, in the preseason Trubisky did make the statement that Darnell Washington could be a factor in the passing game because he is such a mismatch. We saw what he could do with one pass last week. He dragged a couple of tacklers for 7 yards and disappeared. Muth was getting open on Sunday and I don’t think Kenny noticed him at all.
There are things like this a consultant/advisor can hopefully address.
