Canada FIRED

Oh boy, is the MT Presser going to be fun today!!!!!

Below the line, obviously, not living in our fears, pedigree, all that.....

Might even be a few new ones thrown in today since this is unchartered territory for him.

There should be theme music he walks out to.. like in the WWE.. today would definitely be “ Blame Canada”

The good thing about this is that it is a shot fired over the bow in that maybe from here on out everyone under AR2 will be on notice.

If you suck at your job, you can and will be sent packing mid season.

This has never happened before to the best of my knowledge.
I agree. As I didn't think he had it in him to make in season changes. I apologize Mr. Rooney well done.

THANK GOD!!!

I'm gonna have an extra slice of pumpkin pie on Thursday!!

As for the split duties at OC moving forward - I doubt either name is in the running to take over permanently. Hopefully, Art II takes control of that hire and does not leave it to MT to screw up again.

But for the remainder of this season, someone from within has to take over. Nobody from the outside is going to come in a be effective midseason.

The playbook is the playbook. The protection packages are the protection packages. The routes are the routes. Can't impliment a new offense during a week of practice and it's not likely that an outside can take over an entire playbook in one week and handle the terminology in a timely manner on game day. We have to ride this season out and pray that someone hires a serious mind with experience to run this thing.

You invested a 1st round pick in Kenny Pickett to be your next franchise QB. You have to give him the support network behind him to give him a chance at becomming what you want. Matt Canada was not good for KP, he wasn't good for any of those guys on offense and we all knew that. He may be a nice guy, I don't know. He may be the best neighbor, I don't know. And I don't care. You don't trust your retirement money to someone because he is a nice guy. Results.

Hope Leftwich gets an interview, at least. Maybe Whipple too. Just want someone with a experience and past success.

I mean we were the butt of jokes nationwide… and that was BEFORE the team lost to the Browns third stringer

Since we are all speculating that ARll did the firing .... Which is true, as he is the owner and had to sign off on it anyway .... How about we speculate this.
It has been reported that Tomlin was kinda upbeat after the loss Sunday.

Is it possible, especially given the Steelers history of not firing OCs during the season, that Tomlin went to ARll earlier about firing Canada and Deuce said no? Or, I haven't seen enough to fire him based on our record. Is it also possible that Tomlin was upbeat following Sunday's loss because he felt he now had enough ammo to take to Artll to get him to sign off on firing Canada?

I think this is at least as likely as Deuce making a "call from above". My personal belief is that Tomlin wanted to fire Canada after the Houston debacle (when he said "changes are coming") and Art ll said there wasn't enough "stink" to the offense for him to sign off on the firing.

In behalf of myself and all the Steeler faithful residing in Ohio, and especially near Cleveland I would like to thank all of you at Steeler Nation for all the relentless hard work and dedication you put toward making this possible.
You never gave up. Your voices were heard.
Thank You

I can't see Ledty wanting to work under Tomlin. He's building a career.

Link to article on Faulkner
But, he's not building a career. He was fired after last season. No one took a flyer on him. Don't know what that says, other than no one wanted him.

Without knowing I can't throw it off the table. If Tomlin had his hands in the cookie jar I would think it is unlikely. But we all have been speculating so anything is possible.

I see your point. But, the fact that the Rooney's don't fire assistants, let alone coordinators midseason, says to me that this isn't solely an ARll thing.

I have a different fantasy playing out in my head.

On Sunday evening, Art II tells Tomlin to fire Matt Canada.

Monday passes and Tomlin ignores it.

Tuesday morning, Art II steps up and does the job himself.

MT develops the shakes each time the phone rings.

Pretty sure that is just your fanatasy.

I do not understand the Sullivan/Faulkner OC duo. Faulkner alone maybe. At least he's done his primary job well. Rumors were that Canada came down on the field because they were unhappy with the job Sullivan was doing as the QB coach. And now you give him half the authority over the offense? Hell, they should have rolled the dice with Glenn Thomas. At least when he coached Ryan in Atlanta Ryan looked the part of a franchise QB. smh
Move Thomas to QB coach and salvage what’s left of a playbook. Matty Ice turned out pretty good.

This is retarded.
More proof Tomlin is in over his head and his has no idea how to lead or effectively manage and delegate.

They were not going to go outside the organization in season.

Remember when there was a debate over if it was Ben’s fault??

This is on Tomlin, full stop

This Offensive ineptitude was going on long before KP. If I was AR2 this is the first move I would make because obviously he can't fire MT when they are in a playoff spot with a winning record. Not happening. As well as I agree MT shouldn't be fired. Yet.......

It's the only move he could make right now.

You might be right .

How great it is we can have this discussion. I might have to order some Steak and wash it down with some Gentleman Jack tonight.

****.

I'm hearing that the last time we fired a coach was in 1941?

Seems nuts

Edit - Can't be. Cower fired his OC. I'll keep looking.
Ray Sherman, I believe.

Remember this too… total team playbooks can span several OCs… they don’t completely change them out right away…
An NFL playbook is sometimes a couple hundred pages and each page will have 8 plays or so on them, so you are talking about well over a thousand plays… they select about 130ish to use each game… but it wouldn’t surprise me if there are still a couple cowher era plays in ours…

Its why typically a new OC doesn’t really add a lot of his own plays year 1 and often isn’t really calling his O till year 2 or 3… its a lot of plays to change and you want some comfort level plays for the players in the transition

All those thinking KP will instantly change are delusional. He will still need the rest of the season to get the stench of Canaduh off of him and he will need to hopefully learn a much better O this offseason from an entirely new coaching staff. Sullivan or whoever will just be calling the same nonsense Canaduh was but hopefully with a little more creativity in when to call what. You still have to give KP next year, just as some other very good QB's have gotten (Allen for one), to truly see what he can become in the NFL. Firing Canaduh was just step 1 and now we hope he didn't completely ruin KP as the Clowns have done to so many top QB's entering the NFL from the first round.
