Canada FIRED

It would surprise me that quickly. I think the uproar over it would be too great. I can hear it now. You wait two years too long to fire Canada and bench Kenny before he could get all Canada’s bad coaching out of his head!

Nah, I think it’s Kenny sink or swim the rest of the season. But at least we can get that it’s all Canada’s fault narrative figured out. If Kenny still struggles then draft a QB in round 3 or later to develop and make 2024 a make or break season for Kenny.
According to some on here we should expect 300 and 3 from kenny and 150+ from Harris on the ground without Canada.

What if they come out the rest of the season and look worse? Will Tomlin be next?

All we can really hope for at this stage of the season is the new guys actually have a feel for the flow and stick with plays that are working. I don't think the playbook will change much at this stage of the season.
Wouldn't it be great if the Steelers asked Ben to help out around the facility for the next few weeks?

I'll believe Dulac, Bouchette and anyone who actually covers the Steelers. The guys from the Fan are another story without sources.
Dulac is on the Fan every morning.

The fact that the owner of the team has to make this decision and execute on it speaks volumes on Tomlin. If a HC does not have control over his coordinators after all these years, what does that say about him as a leader?
When he’s been given control he does a lousy job of hiring people. He limits his hires to only people he knows or worked with before.

Why would Ben want to come out of retirement, being with his wife and kids all day, every day, to come back to help a team that basically pushed him out the door. He has said repeatedly that Tomlin did not want him back. Would you come help out if that happened to you?

about goddamned time!

Did you finally get your period? ..................... J/K

I triple double your statement, About time is right !!!!

Don't expect instant change though, hopefully just enough to win a 13-10 ball game, then upwards from there.

As Buckeye said above, perhaps Tomlin wanted this firing post Houston debacle, but the Deuce didn't approve as owner. This possibility will become more obvious if outside advisors are not brought in immediately.
I doubt they rush to do that and feel more obligated to hiring them.

Hell I’m stunned. No one is usually scapegoated until after the season.

Tomlin's seat was getting hotter.

300-3? Would be nice but the framework isn't there in the scheme. 200-2 would be more than acceptable with the running game staying hot.

Looking at the film we miss a handful of decent chunk plays in the passing game each week. If we can execute on 2 or 3 of those that’s 50 more yards. So my hope is we go from 170 to maybe 200 a game. And if the running game can keep going for 150+ that’s a huge improvement.

It takes OP a little while to know site rules. He will get on the same page eventually.

We have done the 1st step, now the just as important 2nd step. Who did we hire to replace him. I'm assuming that will be in the offseason as it should be this deep into the season. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, GO AFTER THE BEST OFFENSIVE MIND IN FOOTBALL

I can't imagine they can hire anyone worse.

Please hire a new HC and let him pick his OC.

Too soon?

😁

My picks:
1. Lefty. Has chance since Shades knows him.
2. Haley.
3. Whipple.

A short gig with a big opportunity to influence the Steeler team that is so meaningful to Ben would be hard to pass up, if he still has some fire and his wife agrees.

In the same way that I'd have loved Hines mentoring the WRs over the past few years, or Troy/Ike/Farrior helping to guide the players on D, Ben knows the capabilities of all, the frustrations with playcalling, how to "fix" the playcalling with sandlot plays, and given emeritus status, could strongly influence KP's development and the scheme.

Unless we were to lose out and probably not even then. Right now he still has a shot at CoTY if we win 5 or 6 more games which isn't out the realm of possibility with our schedule if we get even modest improvement on offense. Moderately better offense will improve the defense as well.

If Mike didn't make the call this may make it hotter. I expect the team to play better if for no other reason than relief.

I don't think this absolves Tomlin. I think his seat is still hotter than anytime in his career. I also think unless by some great close out of the season, TOMLIN isn't offered an extention and told lets see how this upcoming season plays out.

I would look at positional coaches that are employed that have done an exceptional job and is ready for the next step. Or hire a new HC but that is only fantasizing.

Well, I must say this is quite shocking....I didn't think they had the balls to do it midseason.

NOT at all. It needs to be the next step but won't happen till the contract runs out.

I think the big thing for me with Matt Canada and his offense at least from my perspective is that it seemed like it was just running plays and never ever was there any rhythm or offensive flow.
Perfect example was the last series against the Browns. It was just three out of sync plays, absolutely zero rhythm or smoothness or flow. Been that way since Canada has been here and only time there was any rhythm and flow was when Ben tuned Canada out and ran things himself.
