Canada FIRED

We run routes over the middle. It’s already documented that Pickett missed an open DJ in the middle of the field that might have been the game winning touchdown. Some say it wasn’t his primary read but it looked like that’s where his head was aimed. He didn’t anticipate and ended up scrambling while DJ is alone by 10 yards with no one on him. I don’t know how we can blame Canada for that but somehow many have.

The plays we run every team runs. The problem I had with Canada was there wasn’t any wrinkles to throw a defense off. Give a look and do something else. It was easy for a defensive player to know what was coming. So those are easy adjustments to put into a game plan and that can be accomplished this week. You put in a half dozen plays out of formations you run and you put a wrinkle in. Then you ad every week.

But here’s the thing. If Kenny is struggling to find the open guy now how is he going to do with option routes and wrinkles to the offense?

Guess we’ll see if they do and if so how Kenny does.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Kenny is parked on Sunday if he is still struggling post Canada vs the Bengals. Missing reads/missing wide open targets.

A large majority of OTA’s and offseason are spent on verbiage/terminology while installing an offense. Changing that now can cause problems during game time. One thing at a time during this transition
Verbiage will not change. The play design can. Verbiage just says what routes and blocking assignments are. The new staff can put their spin on things. But an entire overhaul won’t be done until after the season and maybe not at all if we don’t hire outside the organization

The fact that the owner of the team has to make this decision and execute on it speaks volumes on Tomlin. If a HC does not have control over his coordinators after all these years, what does that say about him as a leader?

Is this even confirmed? I haven't seen anything saying who made the call.

Reported yesterday that Art II was very upset in Cleveland after Sundays game and was not his usual friendly self even after a loss as in the past. Kept thinking something may have been coming down the pike. Good move Art even though should have been done after the bye or better yet never been brought back this year but hay, I’ll take it.
I don’t know how much of a difference this will really make this season since it’s the same playbook and offense but one thing it will do is shake the hell out of this team and provide a mini reset.
Maybe Sullivan who will be calling the plays will at the very least open this offense up and play less conservative.
For the owner to pull such an unprecedented move like this most likely at the very least lights the pilot light under Tomlin’s ***.
I will toast you Art II with a Jamison for doing something you never do and bucking Steeler tradition. Had to be done!

Eddie Faulkner??? OMG... what has he ever proved as an OC??? Does he have a secret playbook that we've never seen???

Dorsey is available😡😡😡
Faulkner is RB coach and I think that means they will concentrate on the running game. Hopefully play action becomes a thing too

Unfortunately I don't think the playbook will have that drastic of a change at this point of the season. It's just going to be a matter of picking through what **** for brains has drawn up. Hopefully there's enough in there they can construct a half decent game plan and call the right plays at the right time.

Anybody that thinks there's magic in a playbook that never produced 30 points is going to be disappointed I'm afraid.

93.7 The Fan, Gerry Dulac, and Ed Bouchette are all reporting that AR2 made the decision and pulled the trigger. It is all over Twitter/X.

It would surprise me that quickly. I think the uproar over it would be too great. I can hear it now. You wait two years too long to fire Canada and bench Kenny before he could get all Canada’s bad coaching out of his head!

Nah, I think it’s Kenny sink or swim the rest of the season. But at least we can get that it’s all Canada’s fault narrative figured out. If Kenny still struggles then draft a QB in round 3 or later to develop and make 2024 a make or break season for Kenny.

Ok. But it Doesn't mean Tomlin was or wasn't on board. I would think t has to be his ultimate decision as the owner. AND I don't completely trust Dulac.

You would find any way possible to defend Tomlin...I would expect nothing less.

Canada had no feel for the flow of the game. He probably had a kids spinner toy to pick the next play. Hopefully, even if the play page is retained, the new guy will get it. Maybe they will understand that you stick with a runner who is gaining yards, instead of pulling him for the other one. Maybe he will understand that you scheme to play to the weaknesses of the opponent's defense. Maybe he will try to fool the defense from time to time.

Maybe I'm being delusional.

WTF? Nice reply.
As asked 10,000 times on this site, what exactly does Tomlin do? If a HC does not have control over his coaching staff then what is their job? The fact that the owner of the team has to come out and continually make decisions on the OC of this team just shows how little control Tomlin actually has. Doesn't that seem wild for a coach that gets mentioned in the HOF discussion?

i am not going to argue with you about this after the tone of your reply. Yes I lean towards supporting Tomlin but the Canada things was even wearing thin on me.

I'll believe Dulac, Bouchette and anyone who actually covers the Steelers. The guys from the Fan are another story without sources.

As Buckeye said above, perhaps Tomlin wanted this firing post Houston debacle, but the Deuce didn't approve as owner. This possibility will become more obvious if outside advisors are not brought in immediately.

All we can really hope for at this stage of the season is the new guys actually have a feel for the flow and stick with plays that are working. I don't think the playbook will change much at this stage of the season.

The guys on The Fan are speculating that Gruden might get a call from Tomlin.
