Canada FIRED

A short gig with a big opportunity to influence the Steeler team that is so meaningful to Ben would be hard to pass up, if he still has some fire and his wife agrees.

In the same way that I'd have loved Hines mentoring the WRs over the past few years, or Troy/Ike/Farrior helping to guide the players on D, Ben knows the capabilities of all, the frustrations with playcalling, how to "fix" the playcalling with sandlot plays, and given emeritus status, could strongly influence KP's development and the scheme.
Ben would be good at helping Kenny read defenses and go through his progressions.

NOT at all. It needs to be the next step but won't happen till the contract runs out.

If even then. We unfortunately have a chance that the guy is extended.

Here is the thing… the players were in open revolt… they were a few pitchforks shy from storming the south side facility and liberating tge offense by force… that in and of itself was a very good reason to terminate him… as was his three year absolute miserable results…

But THE most fireable offense came Sunday

And I am not just talking about the weird play designs or miscommunications… because you can sort of pin some of that on players doing the wrong thing…

After the Owner had dismissed Fitchner because of his inability to get a good run game together… and brought in Canada because he was going to rebuild the run game…

The team lost by three in a game against a division rival with the best pass d in the league… and the Steelers had a RB averaging OVER 14 YARDS per carry… and we called 9 total run plays for him… in fact, we called a lot more pass plays than run plays that game… and more running plays for the other back who wasn’t as productive…

I mean the playcalling was always out of sync… but that usage was criminal

My picks:
1. Lefty. Has chance since Shades knows him.
2. Haley.
3. Whipple.
Sorry Ron, they're going with Darrell Bevell - I've posted his resume before, but the most key points are that he has worked with Tomlin before and he's pretty much a career assistant/OC (no up and coming whippersnappers around here, ya know)

Bill O'Brien when he gets released from the Pats after this season would be on my short list. Also, Jon Gruden would be someone I called today to gauge his interest.

That’s assuming they let Shades make the hire.
I’m sure it’s not lost on Deuce and Omar that Shades’ best OC was Haley, the one he didn’t hire.

Maybe in the offseason, but they are promoting with in currently. Sullivan play caller and eddie faulkner as OC

Whomever they bring in better have a track record in developing QBs and to a lesser extent, Wrs… and if this blocking scheme doesn’t get hellabetter real quickly, they better go get a OL guru in the offseason too..

Im not saying that just for Pickett either… regardless of whether he comes around or not we best have a system already established for the next guy if we have to go that route

We have done the 1st step, now the just as important 2nd step. Who did we hire to replace him. I'm assuming that will be in the offseason as it should be this deep into the season. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, GO AFTER THE BEST OFFENSIVE MIND IN FOOTBALL

We all know that won’t happen unless Rooney makes the hire himself ie Todd Haley. The odds of it being someone in house or from Pitt are high, very high lol

Since we are all speculating that ARll did the firing .... Which is true, as he is the owner and had to sign off on it anyway .... How about we speculate this.
It has been reported that Tomlin was kinda upbeat after the loss Sunday.

Is it possible, especially given the Steelers history of not firing OCs during the season, that Tomlin went to ARll earlier about firing Canada and Deuce said no? Or, I haven't seen enough to fire him based on our record. Is it also possible that Tomlin was upbeat following Sunday's loss because he felt he now had enough ammo to take to Artll to get him to sign off on firing Canada?

I think this is at least as likely as Deuce making a "call from above". My personal belief is that Tomlin wanted to fire Canada after the Houston debacle (when he said "changes are coming") and Art ll said there wasn't enough "stink" to the offense for him to sign off on the firing.
I think Tomlin was upbeat because he knew he wouldn't be the one getting canned, yet!

I’ve never heard of one guy being OC and another calling plays…says a lot about the quality of the staff that no one on staff can do it all in my opinion

We run routes over the middle. It’s already documented that Pickett missed an open DJ in the middle of the field that might have been the game winning touchdown. Some say it wasn’t his primary read but it looked like that’s where his head was aimed. He didn’t anticipate and ended up scrambling while DJ is alone by 10 yards with no one on him. I don’t know how we can blame Canada for that but somehow many have.

The plays we run every team runs. The problem I had with Canada was there wasn’t any wrinkles to throw a defense off. Give a look and do something else. It was easy for a defensive player to know what was coming. So those are easy adjustments to put into a game plan and that can be accomplished this week. You put in a half dozen plays out of formations you run and you put a wrinkle in. Then you ad every week.

But here’s the thing. If Kenny is struggling to find the open guy now how is he going to do with option routes and wrinkles to the offense?

Guess we’ll see if they do and if so how Kenny does.
Yep. We will see. We need to because if it is Pickett we need to decline his 5th year option. As we should with Harris' 5th year option. Colbert didn't hit any homeruns in the first round his last handful of drafts. That is for sure.

You have three crayon induced plays. It shouldn't even be mission difficult.

I will say at least Sullivan has NFL OC experience. I am excited to see how this plays out.
At least until around 430 pm on Sunday. 🤪

What top offensive mind will be lining up to put their reputation on the line with Kenny Pickett as qb to decide they're fate as a Steeler OC??
Every analyst in the world thinks he is playing as badly as the numbers suggest.
Plus its becoming obvious his own team has no faith in him at this point.

Well, now they got what they wanted. Thank goodness. But now it's on them. No more whining and crying...they gotta produce. I'm just not so sure the 14 year olds they have it that locker room can figure that out.

I know it is a marathon not a sprint. Even if they initially struggle I will be excited moving forward. As I know change is around the corner.. finally!

Fixed it for ya:

What top offensive mind would be lining up their reputation on the line to be hamstrung by Mike Tomlins conservative offensive mindset?
