Canada Will Return in 2023

By your logic, if you have employees that consistently underperform yet continue to be the face of your business, then it's their fault for not training, demoting or firing themselves. Bad bounces happen and people have bad days, but consistently underperforming with no accountability is not the employees failure. That WR you're referring to showed the same deficiencies for at least two seasons and was rewarded with a contract extension and the number 1 position. I just can't continue to blame a man that's apparently doing the only thing he knows how, for being allowed to do it every week.
He has also shown great ability. To deny that is not truthful. He has to perform to his level of pay. It is on him.

What Cowher and Colbet were exceptionally good at was having the next guy ready. He didn't necessarily do anything his first year, but Cowher knew this player was ending his shelf life and had the next guy ready. I would argue this. Cowher had deeper valleys in seasons, but they were always followed by high peaks that they looked like legit contenders. Not 4 or 5 years of this fringe bullshit they have been.
To be totally fair to Tomlin, A lot of that went out the window when the league mandated 4 year rookie contracts. The Steelers signed all the non first round picks to 3 year deals. This let them use three years before doing a RFA bridge deal for a couple years… this pushed big money deals out to years six or seven … and let them bring guys along slowly.

The new structure means you need to make a decision asap on the guy…

Like here is the deal people. The last two meaningful playoff wins this team has had since 2010 where they were probably in an even game were 2015 in the Burfect AB knock out game. and 2016 When they beat the Alex Smith Chiefs. That same year they had an uneven matchup where Bud Dupree nearly decapitated the QB who would be a trivia question to recall the name of. AND THAT IS IT. so if you think that is acceptable, I just don't think we will ever possibly get to the same side of this until A. They go on a deep run and you are proved right. B. They finally fire him and you realized the last six or seven years were total wastes.

If you don't know what a guy is in 3-4 years I'd say that is a problem. Like look at Marcus Allen He has made 57 total tackles in 5 years. He has no turnover stats and only been called upon to man a position when they were totally desperate. now i realize fully everyone is not going to be a star and you need SP. Teams. But c'mon, you couldn't find someone as good on SP. Teams with upside by now?

Completely agree. Which is why the "Tomlin won with Cowher players" is such a bunch of nonsense.

I keep using Diontae Johnson as an example. How has he not been put in a position to succeed?
I hate to zero in on one player. For me that just sidetracks the bigger picture. And that is winning playoff games and or being competitive in losing effort. We usually are not seeing either. That needs to change. But if the team isn't making changes it suggests they are too comfy in their situation and content with the product they are putting out on the field year after year.

Bad decision making needs to become good decision making by hook or crook.

I think this is where the disconnect is, for me anyway. I don't think anyone here thinks it is acceptable. I don't. But again, realistically, what can I do about it? Since I can do nothing about it, I try have hope. I don't believe I am delusional in any way. I know the issues. But I'm gonna have hope they can turn it around. It's more fun that way. And it is supposed to be fun, being a fan. It seems that some of you are just mad that we all don't wallow in doom and gloom over it.

I would say the voice of this is unacceptable results needs to get louder. I have hope every year, till they get about 1/3 through the season. And don't get me wrong I hope they win every game next year, and go on to win a SB. I want to be wrong. I just don't think I am.

That's where we're never going to see eye to eye. You're right, he's being paid to be great. I just don't think he's capable of doing it week in and week out, whereas you think he's just not trying hard enough. Either way though, I don't pay/play him as my number 1. He is a bit of a bad example as he actually does perform on occasion as opposed to some of the others that have retained starting jobs for way too long while showing very little promise or improvement (Jarvis Jones, Bush, Burns, Dotson etc).

I don't think you are, either. But like you said, I'm still gonna tune in and root and hope they do well. I just don't think they will listen to the voices. It has served them well in the past not to and it isn't the way they do things.

Never said he isn't trying hard enough. Some guys work hard but not productively or efficiently. Maybe that's the issue.

To be fair, with a salary cap structure, you will always be forced to pay players like Allen when you have contracts like Ben, TJ, Cam, Minkah. Without those contracts, the money can be spread around more allowing the bottom tier players to be better. Then again, that also has its drawbacks.

Oh and I totally disagree with this:

I think if the voices get loud enough and the results continue to match the complaints they will eventually make the right decision here. I'm passionate about this team. I'm personally positive this team needs to set a new course, so I'm always going to HOPE for the best and HOPE that I'm wrong, but push for change because I don't believe I am.
Right now I’m pretty sure Canaduh will be gone after next year when his contract is up, just that we’ll have had to waste a year waiting for the inevitable.

Do not disagree, though I would say with current technology and interconnectedness its more of a megaphone then the old radio call in kooks.

So I'm reading that Bienemy is a possibility for Ravens OC. Is he not under contract anymore and possibly looking for change of scenery because that is not an upward move. Saying Bienemy is not an upgrade is like saying a Mercedes isn't an upgrade over a friggen Kia.
Question answered, he is not under contract and should he not be chosen for an HC position he will be highly sought out by a number of teams looking to upgrade their OC not named the Pittsburgh Steelers who seem to think lame duck OC Blame Canada finished the year strongly enough against the murderers row that ended the season. Stay tuned.

Providing this thread is still about keeping Canada I will add my 2cents as unpopular as it may be. I wanted him gone last year wanted him gone during bye week.

it is smart to bring him back for 1 more year. Last year We had Ben on his last leg doing a form of what Canadas offense. this year he had Mitch Starting, and then a rookie QB. That Rookie certainly improved throught the year. the offene improved after the bye.

It seems like 1/4 of the league is looking for a coordinator. might as well stick with what we have and see if his 2nd year with Kenny improves as much as the 2nd half of year.

So here is my answer to that. and I will say this. Consistency has validity when it comes to a young QB. My question is what would constitute improvement to keep him beyond next season........ and if there was fairly universal acceptance that improvement was clear cut (like if they were top 15 on offense next year), he isn't even under contract after next season. So you sit at basically 80-20 maybe even 90-10 that next year is his last and you will need an OC anyway.

If they improve to top 15, I would say he is signed again. Trust me I wanted him gone, but it did make since to keep him based on how he finished

So does that mean we’re done, it’s solved, and everyone is happy and friends now? 🤣😈. ON TO THE NEXT ISSUE!!!!!

You can move on if you want, I'm just going to continue and encourage GREAT discussion on topics at hand.

Salute the nation

Will he though? What happens if the Steelers doing the following next year?
-Pickett throws for 3,600 yards with 22 TDs and 7 INTs
-Najee averages over 4.0 YPC for the first time in his career
-Offensive line continues to perform at or above league average
-Offense scores 21.5 PPG
-Steelers finish 10-7, lose in the first round

It would have to pass certain eye tests for me but on the surface I would say if that happened him and Shades would be back.

I didn't think too much into it, but it feels like a natural progression, with the exception of Pickett's TD numbers, which realistically should probably grow to the 16-20 range in the current offense.

The Bungles have won more playoff games in the last 2 years than we have in the last 12.
The Bengals have also won more playoff games in the last five days than the Steelers have in six years.
