Colbert or Tomlin whoever has the final say needs to go

We need a big ole bubble butt NT.....That is what makes the 3-4 work......Unfortunately those guys are few and far between.

Denver would bring in a pass rusher and a corner in our situation

let us see what this FO does this offseason

I said this in an earlier thread, but Howard Jones has an opportunity here. I really hope he watched everything that Deebo did this year. From getting to the facility early to lift, to his film study and preparation. There's no other guy he should've been learning from besides Peezy and Butler.

I wonder if going to a 4-3 would be an option. They are struggling with OLB. The front 4 could be McCullers and McClendon at tackles, Heyward and Tuitt at ends. Shazier becomes an OLB, maybe Timmons the other OLB, and Williams Middle. I don't know. I'd explore it. They have to do something different on that side of the ball. Of all the plays that were frustrating last night, the one that got to me the most was when it was 20-15 and they got the Ravens to a 3rd and 13 and Blake gave up the first without any fight. The defense has just been played too long and everybody knows what is coming. That's fine if you have great talent, but they seem to be having trouble finding the talent at key spots.

I've been considering that they may even be drafting preparing for a 4-3 switch, but who knows. We have drafted well offensively (WR especially), but Def has been an issue in drafting and it never used to be (Although Tuiit looks like he'll be great, Heyward is already coming into his own, Jury's out on Shazier yet, Jarvis isn't progressing but he may yet improve still up in the air with him, haven't seen Shamarko yet don't know what's going on with him, Spence and Williams have been good not great, and Timmons has been underrated for years). Defensive and Offensive line (Maybe having Munchak's opinion now will continue to help) drafting must improve

yinz mean Jarvis?

and if so I think the thought of Jarvis developing is too much of a what if to count on him as a starter

whatever it takes to get to a QB. If a move to a 3/4 a few DTs will be needed. One to replace a ineffective Cam Thomas, the other for pass rush depth at the position..........

Well I think you'd have Mclendon and McCullers at DT with Heyward and Tuitt at end, then Jones, Timmons and Shazier as your Lbs with Spence, Williams and Howard Jones (If he made the team) rotating. Not really sure though that'd just be my guess.

That leaves Heyward and Tuitt as your pass rush. One more collapsing the pocket body is desired. Not sure Mclendon or McCullers brings that push on a consistent basis.....

More so McCullers.........

True, and it'd be one of the first times we'd look for a pass rushing DT like an Aaron Donald type

Both Tomlin and Colbert will be here as long as they want to be now to many of our dismay.

I have no idea how they won 11 games.

They lost to the Jets, went 2-2 against the worst division in football, and even the so-called great offense Tombert has assembled has struggled to score for the past month and has been made to look better than it is overall by a few isolated offensive outbursts.

As it pertains to Colbert, I just do not think the drafting of Bell and Bryant should offset all the mistakes that have been made on the defensive side of the ball.

The NFL isn't as set on talent rewarding performance as it used to be... the new rules, the current draft system, free agency, roster limits, and the way they schedule brought parody in as much as one team can contend one year and be pathetic the next. The steelers had the best winning % vs winning teams this season. Yet they were abysmal vs lesser teams. A lot of that does fall on coaching. they were more aggressive vs certain teams and played not to lose vs bad teams...

That's really bothersome is all the time and effort Tomlin and Colbert put in to scouting this year. We have a very serious problem in that the from seven which can't get any pass rush or now stop the run is all first and second rounders and on the offensive line it's the same thing, the center and the guard both number one picks were just man handled by the rats d linesmen and I won't dignify the two rights tackles that were just just embarrassing again. So it's like what 6 number 1 picks 3 number 2 picks and a 3rd rounder. That's twelve 3 or better picks in the online and defense front seven that for the most part save for Hayward Timmons they stink. My rambling point they have the guys they want!!!! So what the f is going on with the coaches???

Well, him too. But I really meant this guy: http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/Howard-Jones/23382add-0b4c-4c18-b8ac-c9ee2c890fca. The undrafted rookie OLB on the practice squad. Harrison's story should be an inspiration and driving force for H. Jones. And he has had the opportunity to observe how Harrison prepares, etc. I hope he used this time wisely.

Jones is a natural pass rusher, but coming from shepard, I doubt he has the pedigree our coaching staff needs to give him a legit chance

those guys they want weren't the best decisions for the team

some might say hindsight

but bringing in a bunch of scrubs can't be viewed as a solve all with a competent FO

I'm curious to see if he extends Tomlin the customary "two years left on the contract" extension this offseason.
Of course, they got to the playoffs.

I thought the extension was a certainty going into last night, but given how poorly they played, I honestly don't know now.
Of course, they got to the playoffs.

Tomlin will be here for a good five years more, maybe ten, no matter how bad they play, no matter how many 8-8 seasons they have, no matter how many teams with a losing record beat the Steelers, no matter how many horrible drafts defensively they have, no matter how much we ***** that him and Colbert can't draft anyone good except WR's and RB's. He. Is. Not. Going. Anywhere. No. Matter. What.
They won't be as bad as the Browns but they will be mediocre for a long time. Get used to it.
Personally I'm not going to waste any time worrying about it because I can't afford to lose any more hair.

Oh yeah forgot about him. Give him a shot sure. But that should be in a backup concept with still bringing in proven talent..............

#1 issue with the secondary is of all the CB's only Ike taylor was picked in the 4th round or higher. Sure, There are plenty of good CBs that are found undrafted or in the low rounds, but when you utterly neglect a position like that for a decade, not even trying to bring in potential premium talent, you often get a secondary that cannot cover well. The old school mentality of waiting to get RBs late and taking gambles on LBs that are tweeners or from smaller schools is sort of missing these daysits not as easy, with a lot of the tweeners going higher than they did before, but still they are out there

Yep. Hence the reference to him needing to look at Harrison as a role model.

That would be the plan I hope. Unless he comes into camp and shows that he's drastically, dramatically improved his ability to drop back in coverage and has developed some more rush moves. I mean unless he is just so improved from this year to next that he can't be ignored. Look at his competition if he does improve: Jarvis Jones and possibly Jason Worilds. So far that's it unless Moats is brought back.

You hear these kids say all they need is an opportunity. Well Howard Jones, destiny is calling, but she's a fickle little lady and if you aren't ready, she'll move on to the next guy.

If I was a betting man I would have won a **** load of money predicting this thread......Pitiful that so many of the members here constantly want to play the blame game....thank GOD none of you run the Steelers organization....The Steelers haven't had a losing season since 2006 and still we complain...If you don't like the Steelers do things then root for someone else...to be upset with the loss is one thing but some of you take it too far....

C'mon man. I know some of it is over the top, but that loss was frustrating. It is a place to vent, say stupid **** and not really be held accountable for it. I get tired of the constant whining by some as well, and the immediate "we have to get rid of..." When it is still going on 3 weeks from now, yeah. But now, you have to let people vent.

Venting is one thing but this place is ridiculous....there is a reason I'm a FNG on this board....I have a hard time dealing with the carp spewed by so called Steelers fans...True fans will continue to stay optimistic particularly in a environment where the team is competitive...I lived through the 80's and the late 90's and 2000...If we get to that point then I will be a little more understanding of it but not in the current situation...

It is the climate we live in. There has to be somebody to blame. I have never quite figured out how you can take the ultimate team game like football and narrow it down to blame one or two guys. But in the short term, I am fine with it, as guys are frustrated. Hell, it's January. It's cold, the weather generally sucks. There is 3 solid months until trout season. But I agree with you in the sense that when the same **** is being spewed on Feb 14th or something, it gets old.

oh here we go with the "truefan" ****

I would go head to head with anybody and rattle off what makes me a fanatic over others

BUT this isn't a competition. I really haven't seen too much over the top ****, well besides some name calling in one thread and a trade Ben in another.

This isn't a one year problem Steeler Nation has seen it for 4 / 5 years. So rebuilding doesn't fly, bad decisions reign supreme.

After that less than competitive performance no fan should be satisfied with the end result. See how the pendulum can swing?

So overall I think most fans are happy to make the playoffs again FINALLY. But when you have as much talent as this team has on O, you are pissed at one and done. I know I am.

And until the game fades until fans see off-season results or lack of results. You will encounter good and bad.

I look passed the bad and chalk it up to people venting.

I look at the positive and accept that as people happy with certain aspects of the season.

But do not full yourself into thinking you can identify the hardcore fans over the soso fans on a computer.

Maybe one day we will have a head to head competition in a thread, and let people vote on who is the biggest fans on the board.

as for a few posters they seem to want to partake in that conjecture........
