Draft Day 3

There is your big DB, 6027-215 pounds. He ran a 4.48 forty, had a 4.18 shuttle at his pro day, VJ of 38", BJ of 10'07". Athletic, former WR, flipped to CB. Really good at contacting receivers, opening, and running with them. Little zone experience and developing as a tackler.

Yeah, but what does Cooch say about this guy?

Dude's a freak. Why is he still available?

I'm guessing because he's not much of a blocker or something medical or character we are not privy to.

I've always wanted to say this

Go Utes!

I think I remember watching one of their games late at night once

Dave T seemd to rave about him saying he was like Ike Taylor.

Yeah, almost exactly the same prospect that Taylor was, even including the offense to defense switch in the middle of his college career.

In that regard, he is also very similar to Richard Sherman coming out of Stanford.

There's no guarantee that he'll develop, but it's a great pick.

Browns take Brantley. Character issues are not a concern in Cleveland.

Allen is a great pick in rd 5 but may not be able to contribute in the secondary this year. I wonder if they could take a 3rd DB if a guy like Myrick, who they visited multiple times, is available.

With Allen likely needing a redshirt season, they need somebody to step up like Sutton, Golson, or Sensabaugh.

6.64 seconds which was the second best at the combine...

I just got back to my computer and found this as well. 6.64 is freakishly nimble for a 6'3" guy. So, he is a height, weight, speed guy to develop. Coach Lake will have some fun with him. Clearly a practice squad player for the time being.

Not that there's anything wrong with that

STRENGTHS Tremendously long. Will stick his jabs into receiver's chest from press coverage and disrupt the release. Looks comfortable in bump-and-run coverage. Has ability to use length as a recovery tool. Limited just 42.5 percent of targets his way to be completed over the last two seasons. Size casts a tall shadow from trail coverage that makes it challenging to complete the deep touch throw over him. Still very raw and inexperienced and should continue to improve with coaching. Showed off impressive long speed at the combine.

WEAKNESSES Former wide receiver who said he "didn't know how to tackle" when he made the switch and still has issues with it. Ducks head into contact and rarely squares up his target. Finishing rate as a tackler was way below desired rate. Ball skills aren't where they need to be. Slow to find the deep throw and make adjustments to the ball path. Allowed 21.7 yards per completion in 2016. Could struggle badly against a bombs-away offensive approach. Hips and feet are clunky when forced to open suddenly in off-coverage and he loses balance too often in transitions forward.

BOTTOM LINE On the surface, Allen is nowhere near ready to play NFL football. He lacks smooth feet and hips in coverage, a feel for routes and is below average playing the deep ball. His issues as a tackler make it unlikely a team would trust him to move to safety. However, his elite size, speed and length are sure to garner attention and he does flash some potential as a bump-and-run corner. Allen could be a late-round pick who is stashed on a practice squad while a team tries to improve his technique.

Throw him in the pot and let him stew, see if he adds any flavor

Is it true more players drafted from Toledo then U of Houston this year?

Well, maybe, maybe not. The thing about Allen, he is a press corner that can walk up in the face of a WR right now. So, why can't he walk down and do that to TEs or big slot WRs? He could be a matchup guy as a rookie. They tried it with Davis.

Hate to admit it but cowboys are having a solid draft. *******

TMC... thanks for the Allen highlight clip. He clearly has some ball skills... he also seems to play CB like a former WR (he flips position with WR's several times in the clip). If they can get him trained as a gunner on ST... maybe can have him active for going against move TE's?

Browns just stated they are still investigating the Caleb Brantley incident and if they are not comfortable with it, they will not keep him.

And people get pissed when the Steelers select a guy they think cannot play.

I can't believe I'm going to defend the browns after complimenting the cowboys draft but if Brantley doesn't get in trouble he's a late first early second round pick. Browns have more picks than they need at this point so they can just draft him and not sign him. If he is innocent they just got a helluva talent for a 6th round pick. If he is guilty they own his rights but don't need to sign him. Odds are a normal 6th round pick doesn't make their squad so all they are doing is taking a 6th round gamble on a possible 1st talent.

The Steelers did the same when they traded a sixth round pick for Justin Gilbert...

Might want to locate Coolie and talk him down, Brandon Wilson to the Bengals.

Who is left?
Jalen Myrick
Tyler Orlosky
Kyle Fuller
Elijah Qualls
Carroll Phillips
Jarron Jones,
Fish Smithson
Jadar Johnson
Cole Hikutuni

But, I would think they might go Treyvon Hester, DT, Toledo. I'd take Qualls. He has a KEI over 70.

A long snapper? Just had to get him now huh? No way he could have been available in round 7 or UDFA? Ok for real. I've been cool with this draft but this pick just annoys me

Who the **** is Colin Holba? A freaking long snapper? Come on now. Are we the only team that needs a specialist to snap the damn ball?
