I'd cut Rudolph for the roster spot

We should have cut Mitch the second we signed Rudolph. That 8 million they are giving Mitch could carry over and go a long way to signing either some secondary help or signing Pickett to an extension if he earns it in a couple years. Seemed like a waste of money imo.

Oh **** Rudy's biggest fan is back at it. Let one QB go down and it won't seem like a waste of money.

And then there is that small matter that the FO views Mitch as being the better player.

But hey let's save some money and deplete depth with a lesser player off the bench.

I get this point of view, but this team would rather finish 9-8 with the No. 3 QB and just miss the playoffs than implode with some nobody playing QB. For example, Tanner Morgan looks no where near NFL ready.

I think we saw last night that there is a clear cut pecking order at QB. They just extended Mitch. He will not get cut or demoted. Mason is here for one more year. Morgan might be having a good camp, but he isn’t ready for gameday yet
Where are you hearing Morgan is having a good camp? He's only had snaps in team drills in one or two practices, which is not a sign of a guy who is making a push.

I mean tge real thing is lets say pickett gets a lower body injury and is going to miss time… then you are one hard hit from Tanner morgan coming in and if you are getting pickett back, you don’t want a stupid concussion protocol holdout forcing you to finish an important game or start a game with an inexperienced qb…

Before this concussion crap and covid, it was acceptable to risk just having two qbs… now you really should at least have a third that knows your system

They’re not going to cut Mason. That would be foolish to cut Mason who is far ahead of Tanner Morgan. I’m ok with Mason coming in to replace an injured Kenny or Mitch who would at least give us a chance rather than Tanner Morgan.
The player that needs cut in the first wave of cuts is Kendrick Green who totally cannot play at this level. The guy stinks and cannot play OL and Would be a joke at FB. We already have Connor and we had a true FB in Watt but never used him.

As OP I want to be clear. I've never said Morgan over Rudolph on the active roster. It was could they get by with Morgan or better prospect on the PS to preserve a roster spot for a tough cut. I think it been well explained by madinsomniac that there is enough room for Rudolph without really tough cuts. I'm fine with that. But as far as Rudolph over Trubu that could only play out with a KP long term injury. Rudy threw a nice deep ball to a guy three steps open and had a nice run to get them into FG range last night. Other than that it was same old same old Rudy with final numbers 1 completion over 50 percent.

I don't think you have to worry about Green cut. I think he is done. If all things were equal which they do not appear to be I'd like the energy the Herbig brothers bring. Green always looks sad and lost.

I get it. But the odds of us ever getting to our #3 QB is like 1 in 100. I am willing to roll that dice box. I know there's tons of hate for Rudolph but I honestly don't see him being worse than Mitch. Their games are different as Mitch is more agile and quick footed but imo Mason is the stronger thrower. I do know this no matter what your opinion on Mason is no one thinks Mitch is 8 times better than him. And by paying Mitch 8 million and Mason 1 that is what they are saying.

It also said that no one in the league thought Mason Rudolph was an upgrade at backup for say 4 or 5 million and to me that says a lot.

Maybe. But I saw him step up into the defender knowing he was going to take a big shot in order to get enough mustard on it to lead it in front of CA3 last night. I can think of 15 backups off the top of my head that don't make that throw. Mitch is one of them.

You can justify anything based upon one rep. Do us both a favor and rewatch highlights of Steelers Bucs week 6 against TOM BRADY. Mitch comes in up a point with 7 min let in 3rd quarter and ask yourself if Rudy has done anything like that in his career.

rudy is a waste

yes he can throw a deep ball now and then

but with the game on the line and a big on target pass is needed

he is going to **** it up

I say trade for Clayton Tune and trade all 3 of our QBs to Hoston for Tank Dell.

Didn’t see him step into a hit and throw a dime.

Still didn’t.

I’ve watched more Mitch Trubisky than most Steelers fans. Living in Wisconsin Bears played packers, Vikings and lions and I probably saw 4-5 bears games. Mitch is a good athlete and uses his feet to escape pressure. Nothing wrong with that. But he’s not going to step into a DT and make a 30 yard pass and take a shot to the chest.

Rudolph has a minuscule sample size. But he’s shown he can step up and make that play. That’s just not Mitch’s game. He’s a scrambler. Nothing wrong with it. Just you get more 5-10 yard gains but less big chunk plays.

I don’t agree or disagree. Not enough of a sample size

Not enough of a sample size??😂

Sorry Fairlane Ll that content blocked in Canada. I've always liked him. In fact I thought they should have given him a season to sink or swim if they didn't get KP. But honestly, what is Mason Rudolph going to be remembered for when it's all said and done really?

Absorbing a helmet to the dome of course

I finally had the opportunity to watch it last night. Rudy did look good. I don’t think Cody White did Rudy or Mitch any favors. Mitch gave him a 50/50 ball and didn’t really fight for it. Looked like a meager Claypool attempt.
Green looked worse at center than his first year. Don’t know how that’s possible. It’s safe to say that big Nate should solidify the backup center.
Alexander and Clark looked solid at OT and will be serviceable backups, Alexander has some upside too him.
Herbig is just lightning fast. He’s off and around the tackles before they get a chance to set.
The starting offensive line are genuine hogs.
The inside backers are going to be good, no matter who is paired with who, the rotation is going to be good.
Looking forward to the next game to see how much better they are.
The running game looks to be a very diversified ground assault.

Sorry but Rudy is a far far better passer than Mitch. I don't even think it is close. Mitch has better lateral quickness and a higher pedigree but far less touch on his throws. Mason absolutely needs a good line Mitch doesn't but behind a good line I take mason every time over Mitch. The only thing good about Mitch is when used in the spur of the moment he seems to play better. When starting he flat out sucks. Mason is far better as a starter imho. They both have a place on this team at the moment.

The sample size was ample, but in 2019 Rudolph was hamstrung by ****** offensive play calling as well. You know, the same excuse we use for The Chosen One.

Anyone remember the the game where they ran like 41 jet sweeps they ran against the Bengals?
