Initial Thoughts on raven Game

Our good pass rush is rendered useless when the QBs first read is already wide open. Jackson never had to scan the field, he just dropped back and released. Oh, he went to his second read once on the easy wide open TD to Andrews. Our defensive scheme sucks.

Ravens are a good team with an offense that's tough to stop and the steelers were down 2 DBs then Porter got injured too so they're down 3 DBs. This isn't Madden where you sub in the backup and they do everything right. In real life backups make mistakes. Trice has barely played in the NFL.

The steelers have a plan for Lamar. Keep him contained and make him make plays from the pocket. For that to work, you have to have good coverage. You can't have blown assignments time after time.

With all that going wrong, Steelers still had a shot to win. If Russ didn't fumble, I think they may have won. That was the turning point.

We knew this was coming—3 games in 11 days against the Eagles, Rats, and Chiefs. **** the NFL and whoever does the scheduling. What we didn't see coming was the damn injuries. Fautanu and Daniels. Marsha was right Taylor and McCormick have to be at that rookie wall, especially with this schedule. Pickens has been a huge loss along with three starters in the Defensive backfield. We'll also have to see if Porter's injury is worse than originally thought. TJ Watt clearly wasn't healthy. What a ******* mess. We have to get a WR early in the draft next year.

Tomlin gave up on the team, pure and simple when he opted to punt the ball down by 14. If you can’t convert that down in an attempt to get back into the game, being down by 21 really doesn’t matter.

Too bad there are not real reporters at the post press conferences. I would have loved to been there to ask Tomlin, “Why do you expect your players to give everything they have, when you quit on the team by punting when you needed to score down by 14?”

Tomlin’s offensive philosophy is not something that will ever change, and OC’s will always be hampered by this limitation.

He is actually playing about as well as I thought his ceiling was. Today he made a decision his azz couldn’t cover, which we all do every day. We all over estimate our abilities at times, especially when we see a chance to be 20 again. Yes, he should have slid, but even I understand that I would have likely done the same dumbazz thing he did. After that, he was trying way too hard to make up for it.

Tomlin’s philosophy is that TE’s are strictly for blocking, so no need to cover then across the middle, no matter how many years he is proven wrong.

Heard that about thw Eagles game after the Harris fumble. Now perhaps....if both fumbles were late in the game. Both were not. In both cases each team then ended up driving the length of the field to score a TD. That perhaps could be called the turning point. My opinion anyway.

The last part rings very true, Tomlin gives up yet again and back to back weeks the defense absolutely folds down the stretch.

Show zero trust in your players and you will continue to get results like that. Maybe Mikey took the 6.5 and was looking for a backdoor cover…literally the only thing that makes sense/cents

Same crap every year. He gets built in excuses and no one, or media will ever hold him accountable.

Not so sure Russ has AS MUCH to do with the success as the weakness of opponents he’s faced. Pretty sure JF could’ve put up at least 17 vs the Rats…probably would’ve kicked the crap out of the tomato cans (jets, giants, Cleveland, Cincinnati) too

It looks prettier with Russ than JF, but that’s more window dressing than anything imo

Sure Russ hits more deep plays and reads the field
Better (making the passing attack look prettier) whereas with JF the rushing attack was better and the OL Looked better due to his mobility and it resulted in long drives, good TOP and a more rested D late in games.

Two QBs that likely both lack
The ability to overcome the coaching staff

This team has a lot holes to fill to be dominant enough to overcome the shackles it has on it

I wanna bash my head against the wall with this one. The best teams in the league right now...Kansas City, Buffalo, Baltimore, Philly, Detroit...all have legit franchise QBs. Minnesota and Green Bay I will acknowledge are the exceptions to the rule, but their guys are playing excellent football. I'd be willing to bet a combination of those first 5 teams will be standing championship weekend. I would argue they are dragging each of their coaches anywhere. There are exceptions, but overwhelming you won't win without that. It's a dumb criticism.

As I said, though, Russ was going into these recent games against the best teams in the league without his best WR. I just do not think that can be overstated.

Without their only consistent playmaker at WR, the Steelers really needed their defense to pick up the slack and it just hasn't happened.

For all we know, these games would have looked even worse with Fields, as Russ has been able to get Austin, Jefferson and the TEs more involved than Fields was able to earlier in the season.

It's doubtful that Fields would have been able to run much more against the Eagles and Ravens defenses than Russ was able to.

I'm about as critical of Tomlin as anyone, especially as it relates to the continuously suspect OL and DB play under him, but even I have to admit that key injuries have hit the Steelers at quite literally the worst point of the schedule for them to do so.

Not just Pickens on offense, but Elliot has been their best DB by a decent margin and it's unclear exactly how healthy Watt is right now.

I will say the pick 6 pass was awful. It's just something they've been using for far too long as a crutch and defenses are sitting on them waiting. Just like those stupid pitch outs to Harris that will always fail.


Why do we keep getting the same stuff every single season? This script sucks.
