The Pittsburgh Steelers lost the best offensive line coach in the NFL back in 2018 when Mike Munchak left for Denver. At the time the Steelers were knee deep in drama surrounding Antonio Brown’s departure, and many believed Munchak left because of all the drama surrounding the team.

The truth of the matter was that Munchak took a lateral move to be closer to family. His daughter and grandchildren lived in the Denver area.

“As my career shows, when I get somewhere, I stay there,’’ Munchak said during an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in January 2019. “When this opportunity came up to work in a city with my daughter, her husband, my granddaughter and my other daughter not far away in L.A., that’s what we wanted.

Munchak now 62 could be on the move again now. The Broncos fired head coach Vic Fangio, and have hired Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett to replace him. Generally when a new head coach is hired they bring in their own people as assistant coaches. There is always some exceptions to the rules and Munchak could very well be one of those exceptions this time. He’s regarded as one of the top offensive line coaches in the league, but run style philosophies could be the reason they move on from him.

Sounds like Luke Getsy will be promoted to #Packers OC. Also sounds like Mike Munchak could be on the outs with the #Broncos. https://t.co/no2sgBwlg2

My question is: can we intimidate Mike Tomlin with a potential firing enough to stop calling the defense and bring in a team-changing Vic Fangio?

Munch could actually bail this **** show out… good offensive lines bail these “I’m a mad genius” OC’s ******** out all the time maybe bringing munch back could do the same thing… we need something!

Won't happen and I highly doubt he would want to return bit would be the most significant thing this team could do in the offseason. If you got Munchak, one high draft pick and one solid FA sign this offense would be completely different.

Not even sure that would do it. Too many road blocks. It might help the team stay above .500 I will give it that.

The Steelers will need more than Munchak to fix this offensive line.

A C, RG, and RT. Atleast two should come in free agency if they really desired an upgrade immediately. Chiefs attacked their deficiency. Steelers should take a peek on that approach.

I don't know. The Steelers Offensive line was ****** **** before Munchak arrived. They had two guys of pedigree. Munchak did a lot. Regardless, if this team doesn't significantly improve its assistant coaches and coordinators they will not improve.

Exactly the in house **** won't get the job done. With Canada returning they are already showing they aren't getting it or caring to.

I agree. But a really good coach makes it far cheaper in terms of the talent capital you need to inject. Moore has potential, they have guard potential in Dotson. If they could get more out of the rest it would help too. Even a good multi position backup in Green.

Time to get two guys with pedigree to add to the mix.

I just do not understand the point of low balling coordinators and position coaches at all. Top coordinators are under 2 million. There are players on this team who make that much and barely do anything. Spend the bread, bring in quality people and make this thing work.

With no cap on coaches I don't understand it either. I don't expect the team to go out an make every coach the highest paid. However, I expect the Steelers to conduct a real search and do better than Fichtner and Canada at offensive coordinator. Actually find an offensive line coach rather than promote Adrian Klemm.

Mark Madden is a buffoon and has a lot of clown takes. He has a few good points in this article about promoting from within: https://triblive.com/sports/mark-ma...nough-to-justify-mike-tomlins-in-house-hires/

I agree with you. Madden is a bit of a buffoon but those are solid points. I just find he doesn't really press very hard on Tomlin at press conferences.

I thought I've heard him?
Lol, not a chance. You think he is going to talk that way about players and then go into the locker room for interviews? Not a chance. The guy sits in his comfy radio chair and takes shots at teams and players without ever covering them.

Yeah they wouldn't let that guy in. They only surround themselves with people that don't push envelopes.

That would require him to go to a press conference.

Hahahahahaha……Madden hasn’t stepped inside a Steeler locker room for player interviews or press conferences in 20+ years. He uses periphery interviews to pontificate.

Pens coverage however, he used to be much more involved (Pre-COVID)
