We are exactly one week away from the Super Bowl when the Cincinnati Bengals will take on the Los Angeles Rams for the Lombardi Trophy. Many fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers will be rooting for the Bengals, a division foe, to lose which is well warranted. There are several players in this game who may be playing their last game for their respective teams. We know the Steelers may have a more aggressive approach to free agency this off-season with projected cap room and there are some guys who will take the field in Los Angeles that Steelers fans should keep an eye on:

1.) Darious Williams – Cornerback

Williams has been a terrific compliment to Jalen Ramsey in the Rams’ secondary. He had nine passes defended in 2021 which would have tied Cameron Heyward for the lead on the Steelers. Joe Haden‘s departure is imminent and what better way to replace him than taking a chance on a free agent like Mike Tomlin did with Haden back in 2019. At 28 years old, Williams has plenty of solid play left in him. His size is his biggest limitation at only 5’9″, but he has proven to be a cornerback deserving of a pay day. I am excited to see how he performs up against the Bengals’ passing attack.

2.) B.J. Hill – Defensive Lineman

While Hill hasn’t been overly impressive in his first few seasons, he has not had a ton of opportunity to thrive other than this year. He had his best year as a pro with 5.5 sacks and three tackles for loss. The Steelers are going to need some depth on the defensive line, especially if Stephon Tuitt does not return to the team. Hill is only 26 and with money to spend, could be signed at a reasonable price. He would immediately help the Steelers run defense which struggled in 2021. Hill is very strong inside and run stoppage is what he excels at. It would be great to see him alongside Heyward and Tyson Alualu. Keep an eye on how he handles both Cam Akers and Sony Michel come Super Bowl Sunday.

3.) Sony Michel – Running Back

Speaking of Michel, he is one of the running backs that the Steelers should target in free agency. He has stepped in wonderfully for a depleted Rams backfield and Benny Snell Jr. and Anthony McFarland are just not getting it done. It almost seems like Tomlin feels as if he has to give Najee Harris almost 100% of the snaps. Not only does Michel immediately upgrade the Steelers running back situation, but bringing him in also gives Harris a successful veteran to learn from. We will see Cam Akers get a bulk of the carries next week, but Michel will have his chances and I hope Tomlin is paying attention.
