Rudy named starter for raven game

DK reporting, without addressing the rumor, that the only reason KP was not the backup or emergency QB last week was that he was not cleared to play until Thursday afternoon. That meant he hadn't taken any real snaps in preparation for the game.
Kenny hadn't taken any real snaps in preparation for the Jets last year, either, and Tomlin foolishly thrust him into that game.

I would guess it's made up whole cloth. Can you imagine being a QB just a couple of seasons from being drafted and making a problem like that? You will be committing career suicide. The team you're on will dump you and no one else is messing with you...he's Kenny Pickett not Tom Brady. I don't think he's that dumb...but in the words of a famous coach" never say never"
Zach Wilson did it earlier this season...and he was back in as the Jets' starter a few weeks later.

He certainly did..
I was there .. crowd went nuts and I told my daughter that it way too soon for this move..
The guy next to me overheard me say that and I thought he was going to have a coronary ..

That surgery lowered the timeframe from 6-8 weeks to 4-6 weeks.. Idk why he expected to play in 3 weeks… give that **** time to heal…

And like I said before, benching Rudolph right as he potentially plays a real D does nobody any favors…

I mean The Rats break QBs.. let Mason play and if he struggles or is getting killed tgen revert back to Pickett

Let’s not give Tomlin credit for jack

He’s been drug to the changes that have led to the last 3 wins: firing Canada and playing Rudolph over Trubisky

I’d call him ego first not team first

Team oriented, I meant trying to get to the best place he can as in keeping his job in tact.

They win Saturday and he gets an extension, win a playoff game and that extension is for 5 years.

I’ve noticed he is starting to speak a little more ”Tomlinisms” during his presser, three weeks ago and he was pretty much speaking normal (fear of job at stake).

This is a mistake. I get it Rudy has looked good, but Pickett is still seen as the starter next year, correct? Kenny played in a dysfunctional offense. Now that the offense is actually clicking with the OL blocking and the WRs not quitting, you have to get a look at Kenny. Let's see if Kenny can perform in this offense.
If not then you start scouting QB for the draft.

Its not a mistake, genius, they have to go with the hot hand right now

If Pickett is healthy enough to play and is benched for Rudolph then no, he’s not locked in as the starter for next season. Btw, the receivers are locked in because they have a QB who is consistently connecting with them.

The only thing I read was that there were reports he didn't want to be the starter after he was benched because of fear of injuring himself. A report Wilson denied and his head coach denied.

I would think if any NFL QB other than a top superstar( Rodgers,Brady,Mahomes, etc.) pulled some crap like that they would be on the bench till the team could dump them and no team would pick them up. They would be Kaepernicked...if you will. Career ender.

I’m afraid his extension is already secure

Yeah, I noticed that too that He definitely has his swagger back and tough guy one liners after the QB he refused to consider playing after Trubiskys first debacle has saved his bacon

I would not have a problem if the Steelers have already decided that Kenny is not the guy and they are moving on. But it does appear that for next season, Kenny will be handed the job back. Or at least he will get first crack. I think it would help make the decision if he played in this game. If the offense goes right back in the toilet then the decision will be made for next year.

Chris Hoke was talking about that when you see that type of energy and motivation from the team in a game with a new QB, it's because they believe in that QB and that change. Very telling....I guess they don't believe in the other two.

ADD in that that hot hand is a BIG reasoning for this offe3nsive change for the better.

The body language is noticeably different as is the production.

if your goal is to win this game, sure, start Mason. If your goal is to figure out if you want to draft a new QB then start Kenny and get the apple to apple comparison. Personally, i don't care if they win and sneak into the playoffs.

I want to get QB figured out for the future. I'd like them to start Kenny, watch him struggle then start doing homework on Penix, Nix, Maye and Daniels.

Maybe part of the reason the offense looks better is because of the better QB play. Maybe the Steelers need to see what we have in Mason more so than what we have in Pickett.

Hope the Rats play their starters.
And if Rudy wins again, I predict the excuse/reason this time to be "we always beat the Rats anyway".

What if that's exactly what they're doing right now by starting Rudolph? It would not be going out on a limb to suggest it is.
My gut feeling is that it is.

KP has had a world of excuses made for his mediocre/poor play thus far, some legitimate and some not, but that move by Tomlin certainly didn't help Kenny's development, in my opinion.

Obviously.

You're probably right. But it seems like a strange rumor to just materialize out of thin air.

Ironically, Wilson did end up starting again...and got injured.

The clearest apple-to-apple comparison has already happened -- they both played well against the Bengals after Canada was fired.

I question Tomlin's decisions much of the time, but this isn't one of them. He should stick with the hot hand.

I agree with this. In the Ravens game our D got lucky in the first half but did a solid job in the second. KP just played alright, but was able to hit the big play when it mattered. The Ravens are also on a roll right now and if they play their starters Mason and company will have their hands full, but it will be a good gauge

I think it's no more complicated that Tomlin thinks Rudolph gives them the best chance to win this game. Tomlin does not appear to give any thought at all toward the future. But sometimes I think you have to think more about the future.

The steelers hate change. I have a bad feeling that they finish up with a win vs the ravens who will likely play starters sparingly, then the takeaway from the season will be that everything's fine. No problems here. Look at how strong we finished. We can just promote OC from within. The OL is fine, just look at how we ran the ball at the end of the year. Kenny will be good behind THIS offense.

That's what happened last year. Last year they were crap but they won a few at the end and Canada stayed and Kenny was handed the starting job.

I can't shake this feeling that pattern will repeat. Not many changes for next year and hand the job back to Kenny and pass on drafting a QB in what looks like a great QB draft class.

Obvious choice at this time...
Not just for the improved performance at the QB position the last 2 weeks...but the offense overall.
Imagine if Tomlin named Kenny the starter and will be ready to go Saturday. and how the rest of the offensive players would of reacted?
They are feeling it right now and the wise guys in Vegas know it, and made the Steelers 3.5 point favorites.
Steelers are -4 right now. Take the Ravens and the points. The last time this happened, in 2019, Baltimore's backups beat a mediocre 8-7 Steelers team 28-10. Then they lost two weeks later in their first playoff game. If Harbaugh is worried about it happening again, and plays his starters, that line moves to Pittsburgh +7 or more. I think you're in good shape either way.
