Rudy named starter for raven game

Sigh. Not a Kenny fan, don't care if he leaves. I swear anywhere on social media if there's even a hint that you don't want Kenny gone, they come at you like angry animals.
I’ll say it, I don’t want KP gone. He hasn’t had enough time under decent coaching to determine what he can be. He wouldn’t be the first QB that took time to hit his stride. Most recently Tua and Lawrence looked like utter dogshit, but then this year rolls around. I am more than willing to wait till his rookie deal is almost up before making any long term decisions.

That being said, I still stick with my position of a couple years ago. That is that MR should have been truly given the chance to compete for QB1 Last year. The problem is Tomlin and his asinine insistence that you play based on your draft position. I would be willing to bet that Tom Brady would never have been given the chance to start, until Tomlin had no other choice. His late draft position would have tanked any chance he had.

I can tell you one thing. If I was the managing owner and a player that was not given a chance to compete, then actually proves he was possibly the better choice, the coach would be on a hotter seat than he was before. Actually, that would be the final nail in his coffin, as far as I am concerned.

This is a mistake. I get it Rudy has looked good, but Pickett is still seen as the starter next year, correct? Kenny played in a dysfunctional offense. Now that the offense is actually clicking with the OL blocking and the WRs not quitting, you have to get a look at Kenny. Let's see if Kenny can perform in this offense.
If not then you start scouting QB for the draft.
I don't think Kenny is the anointed starter next season. He may have the upper hand going into camp. But I think he has to win the job. Even then his leash will be shorter than this season.

I'm thinking (hoping) the new OC will have a lot of say in the matter.

To Steweys point ..
was surprised to see we have won six of the last seven meetings and Lamar’s career record against us is 2-4…
I knew we had the upper had lately but didn’t think it was to that extent ..

I hope you are right, es[ecially in the new OC department.

Salute the nation

Well---Kenny did beat them in Baltimore last season.

Yes, but he didn't put 30+ against them like Mason will do Saturday.!!!

And Kenny beat the bungles too so that's kind of my point.. they have a bad D. Whatever explanations can be mustered up to downplay Masons success.

My thoughts -

KP8 starts next year. Unless Tomlin is gone, stubborn-know-it-all-ness takes over, and the team loses again.

MR never had a fair shot. Stubbornness again. He's our best QB and gets treated like crap. He handles it with great class.

Kick MT to the curb he never should have been picked up from, draft a QB, have a real camp competition for the spot, like every other spot should have (punter?).

Kick the other MT to the curb, and get a coach with a football IQ to do the right things, not the "I know secret things that no one else knows" thing.

I doubt any of this happens. Good money bets on shades getting an extension, Mason gets ignored or leaves, Tomlin finds a busted down QB to bring in, and we repeat the same stupid.

I will get more tags and hunt more. No need to waste time with garbage.

If I remember correctly, this actually what happened with Belicheck. As i recall, Brady didn't get the chance to start until Drew Bledsoe suffered an injury (chest?). By the time Bledsoe was healthy, Brady had taken the job.

if your goal is to win this game, sure, start Mason. If your goal is to figure out if you want to draft a new QB then start Kenny and get the apple to apple comparison. Personally, i don't care if they win and sneak into the playoffs.

I want to get QB figured out for the future. I'd like them to start Kenny, watch him struggle then start doing homework on Penix, Nix, Maye and Daniels.

I entirely agree with you, but have some addendums:

  1. I agree with you on starting KP just to finalize the evaluation, but watching MR led offenses is simply much more entertaining as a fan. Can only imagine how much better it is for the actual players.
  2. I think the recent moves by Tomlin are certainly telling, and I think they will be doing HW on QB's this draft. Because if you are benching your Franchise QB in favor of your 3rd string QB, chances are, you have no franchise QB.

More interestingly, the last couple of weeks have revealed that we are much closer to competing for a title than I once thought. With some competent QB play (and maybe less injuries at Safety/ILB) I think we could certainly hang with any team in the AFC.

And by "competing QB play" you mean "what Mason Rudolph is giving us."

Depending on how Mason does going forward I feel he may end up #1 not KP. As inept or stubborn Tomlin may be, he still wants to win.
Him starting Rudolph rather than KP proves he wants to win.

Or Rudolph bounces after this season because he has some legit offers elsewhere and knows better than us that Tomlin will never give him a fair shot. Rudolph gave every indication after last season he wanted out of here but no one else showed interest, if he plays well at the rats he will have plenty of interest to at least be a well paid QB2, if not better

Hopefully Tomlin is gone but as you say highly unlikely

He should have never gotten Mitch. I mean he flat fell in love with the guy or was it that he really detested Mason so bad? Surely Tomlin didn't hold Jason Garrett's accusation against Mason? I can't think of any other reason he didn't like him.

C'mon man, that accusation by MYLES Garrett was disclaimed by everyone who was at or near the incident. Hell, even the Browns players remained silent about it. I doubt very seriously that Tomlin believes it and has held it against Rudolph. More likely, he just didn't see the growth that Rudolph was making. Which is enough of an indictment of Tomlin without reaching for some crazy narrative.

Isn't Rudolph on a one year deal? If he does well, some team with no real QB stable may well offer him a contract that the Steelers won't.

Huh? I asked a simple question. I never accused him of it. You went nuts. Calm down. Good lord.

MR, with what he has shown the rest of the NFL these last 2 games, will get offers he did not get last year. He will he gone.

I can't believe the KP rumors...he just doesn't seem to have that big of an ego and seems to a genuinely nice guy. Could be wrong tho.

Cut Mitch.

Draft QB in 3rd and and sign a guy like Minshew or Brissett.

Yes. That is what I'm afraid of....provided he does what so many believe he is incapable of.

Well. Let's be fair. Kenny was part of the dysfunctional offense, just as Rudolph is

But with a win, they can make the playoffs. Start Pickett and you're basically conceding the season just to find out definitively if Pickett is worth keeping.

Fact is, from a front office point of view this is PERFECT!

If Mason gets a win, Pickett is devalued for his extension, even if you fully intend on him being the guy next year.

And, even if Mason wins next week and somehow the team manages to overcome Tomlin's terrible playoff prep and coaching to win a game or two, Mason is STILL contractually going to be viewed as a backup. Hell, he could QB the team through a miracle SB victory and as long as he wasn't the game MVP he wouldn't get starter contract money.

So the ownership has every reason to play the hot hand and see where it goes.

And frankly, it's the best move. The team is playing its best football now. Let them continue.

And it was the Steelers who creamed Bledsoe in a game that brought shady in.

Some Wigservations. (Oh, I like that!)

1) Everyone LOVES the backup QB. (going into his 3rd game now, Mason isn't exactly a backup now, so I expect some of the love to begin to fade )

2) Some folks are pointing out that Mason won against poor teams in Cinci & Seattle. (Specifically that their defenses are weak ). Well, I feel as though AZ and NE were pretty crappy teams too.

3) It was pointed out that perhaps Tomlin hasn't seen much growth in Mason. Well, as scout team QB, you probably don't have much in the way of opportunities to show anything at all.

4) Tomlin WILL get his extension. He won his Superbowl this week.

So quit bitching (I've been guilty of this too) and get on board the "Can we just try to get to the playoffs and win a ******* game" bandwagon.

Support WHOEVER comes out of the tunnel and pray that the team can beat the rats and have a CHANCE to win a playoff game. Remember those?
