I'm good with forfeit or go by winning percentage (my opinion). Pushing another week in has way more effect on outcomes in my opinion.
I mean you’re not wrong. The nfl has the tv contracts, corporate advertising and merchandise to justify their salaryMy wife is a director of a NICU and former NICU nurse. She has witnessed many newborns die.
People aren’t paid based on the importance of their jobs but rather the economics related to them. That’s just the way it is.
Wouldn't a forfeit or "loss", too? I can't see them playing this game now.Doesn't a tie clearly benefit the Chiefs? They would now jump the Bills and it also provides them zero chance of the Bengals leaping them in the last week of the season. The same Chiefs who lost to both the Bengals and Bills this season.
Hence the NFLs love for Patrick Holmes.Doesn't a tie clearly benefit the Chiefs? They would now jump the Bills and it also provides them zero chance of the Bengals leaping them in the last week of the season. The same Chiefs who lost to both the Bengals and Bills this season.
Patrick Price. State farm. Too personalHence the NFLs love for Patrick Holmes.

A tie is essentially assuming the Bills would have outscored the Bengals by 4 points during the remainder of the game. How is that more fair than giving the Bengals a win? That's the best solution, and it's like the game didn't happen, but doesn't affect either team in the standings greatly. Neither team asked for this situation, so let them play this weekend and let the seedings play out. Short weeks are not ideal and not too be too insensitive, but they have had time to gather themselves now that Damar Hamlin is stable and getting care.
I look at this as similar to the Ryan Shazier injury. It was horrific and we didn't know if he would ever walk again, but the team and fans went on. This is all bigger than football, but the league has to go on. I would hope Buffalo WANTS to go out there for their brother and bring home a championship for him. This is new territory and have never seen a player need CPR on the field. I think the NFL handled this the best way possible given the circumstances. I'm sure a lot of people will give them **** no matter what they decide is best.
A win is assuming that several minutes of a game is enough to determine a game. Since you like to be the judge for others, this conclusion is "easy for you", but other more mindful types, like Mad above, are will to study all permutations based on available, open data before making glib decisions. The NFL's lack of comment thus far shows they agree with a holistic, thoughtful approach, including the collateral and non-obvious (to you) ramifications, rather than your simple minded, autocratic "win for Cinci because I be do want."A tie is essentially assuming the Bills would have outscored the Bengals by 4 points during the remainder of the game. Glib? No it’s OBJECTIVE. They were winning, that’s a FACT. Its the only way to fairly decide the outcome without actually playing the game. I actually wanted Buffalo to win.A win is assuming that several minutes of a game is enough to determine a game. They were winning because both teams were expecting to play 4 quarters. Do you think Buffalo may not have gone for it on 4th down instead of kicking a FG if they knew the game was going to end after 1 quarter. There is NOTHING objective about giving a team a victory under false pretenses.Glib? No it’s OBJECTIVE. They were winning, that’s a FACT. No. False pretenses is trying to take into consideration what could have happened under different circumstances instead of basing a decision on what DID happen. They were winning because both teams were expecting to play 4 quarters. You are ******* retarded if you think that neither team would have played differently if they knew the game was ending at the end of the Quarter.No. False pretenses is trying to take into consideration what could have happened under different circumstances instead of basing a decision on what DID happen.
Whatever I can do to make your day brighter......eh, maybe. I will be calling him Patrick Holmes from now on, though.
Retarded is arguing that Buffalo let Cincinnati score a TD because they expected the game to last 4 quarters. You are ******* retarded if you think that neither team would have played differently if they knew the game was ending at the end of the Quarter.
Forfeits are rare in the pros but they happen in lower level minor league sports from time to time… its almost always because an accident, illness, or event causes one team not to be able to play… it’s rarely the fault of that team, but they are still responsible for the loss… sometimes life deals you lemons…I don't get the whole Buffalo forfeit option. Why on earth would they (or any team) do that? They did nothing wrong. They didn't walk off the field and say "we're not playing tonight". Both teams and the league agreed not to play on Monday. If it were my team, there is no way I forfeit the game unless I was locked into my seeding for the playoffs one way or the other and I don't think that is the case.
Wife and I were discussing this at lunch. We don’t work real far apart. Thank you for the more detailed analysis. I think Buffalo forfeiting is the best alternative. Doesn’t screw up the schedule, Buffalo loses a chance at the first round bye BUT they’re getting a bye THIS week. If I’m understanding correctly. So here are the options (and why the league is dragging its feet on a decision, which, by the way will look more biased after this next week than if they just make a call now)
1. Finish the game before the playoffs start. Their best option would have been to just replay it Tuesday or Wednesday… now its a logistical nightmare at best… scenarios like moving tge playoffs back run into a whole separate, super costly problem… in short, the window to do this is probably closed
2. Just have Buffalo forfeit… this is by far the best option at this time… the facts are that it was a Buffalo player that, through absolutely no fault of his own, led to the postponement of the game.. but in sports, if the charter bus breaks down and you can’t get to the game through no fault of your own, you are still the one who has to forfeit… the fact that they we’re technically behind when the game ended adds to this point…
A forfeit puts Buffalo behind KC but they hold the h2h tiebreaker with them… it also puts them behind Cincinnati by virtue of the forfeited loss.
It also hands the AFC north to the Bengals and eliminates the Ravens. So basically it puts Buffalo in a less desirable position but they still have a chance at the 1 seed.. and it Gives tge Bengals a leg up and screws the Ravens
Option 3 is to declare it a non game and option 4 is to declare it a tie. Let me cover these together to show how it differs. Playoff seeds are set by winning percentage when teams haven’t played an equal amount of games a win is 1 point, a tie is .5, a loss 0… so lets look at some percentages that could play out:
KC wins game 17- record 14-3-0 win %.824
KC loses game 17- record 13-4-0 win%.764
KC ties game 17- record 13-3-1 win%.794
so let us look at Buffalo and Cincinnati if they finished that game with Buffalo getting the win:
Buf wins game 17- record 14-3-0 win %.824
Buf loses game 17- record 13-4-0 win%.764
Buf ties game 17- record 13-3-1 win%.794
Cin wins game 17- record 12-5-0 win %.706
Cin loses game 17- record 11-6-0 win%.647
Cin ties game 17- record 11-5-1 win%.676
lets look at Buffalo and Cincinnati if they finished that game or if Buffalo forfeits either way with Cincinnati getting the win:
Buf wins game 17- record 13-4-0 win %..764
Buf loses game 17- record 12-5-0 win%.706
Buf ties game 17- record 12-4-1 win%.735
Cin wins game 17- record 13-4-0 win %.764
Cin loses game 17- record 12-5-0 win%.706
Cin ties game 17- record 12-4-1 win%.735
Here is what happens if they call it a tie
Buf wins game 17- record 13-3-1 win %..794
Buf loses game 17- record 12-4-1 win%.735
Buf ties game 17- record 12-3-2 win%.764
Cin wins game 17- record 12-4-1 win %.764
Cin loses game 17- record 11-5-1 win%.677
Cin ties game 17- record 11-4-2 win%.706
Here is what happens if they call it a Non game as if it wasn’t played
Buf wins game 17- record 13-3-0 win %..813
Buf loses game 17- record 12-4-0 win%.750
Buf ties game 17- record 12-3-1 win%.781
Cin wins game 17- record 12-4-0 win %.750
Cin loses game 17- record 11-5-0 win%.688
Cin ties game 17- record 11-4-1 win%.719
So as you can see… how they handle this can change the possibilities a lot, and these numbers affect draft position and playoff rankings…
My fear is they will let this weekend play out and if that Cinci Buffalo game matters they try to shoehorn it in and play some late playoff games week 1
More Trog logic.....cant wait to see where this goes......Retarded is arguing that Buffalo let Cincinnati score a TD because they expected the game to last 4 quarters.
