So for this Pittsburgh Steelers Mock Draft, I used FanSpeak.com as my engine, and did not allow trades to happen. I decided to let the draft come to me as I feel the Steelers and Kevin Colbert, in his final year as general manager, filled holes nicely and he did so without breaking the bank or mortgaging the Steelers future. (insert Browns punchline here)

Round 1

1 OT Ikem Ekwonu – Jacksonville Jaguars

2 S Kyle Hamilton – Detroit Lions

3 EDGE Aidan Hutchinson – Houston Texans

4 EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux – New York Jets

5 OT Evan Neal – New York Giants

6 QB Matt Corral – Carolina Panthers

7 EDGE Travon Walker – New York Giants

8 OT Charles Cross – Atlanta Falcons

9 QB Malik Willis – Seattle Seahawks

10 CB Trent McDuffie – New York Jets

11 LB Nakobe Dean – Washington Commanders

12 LB Devin Lloyd – Minnesota Vikings

13 WR Jameson Williams – Houston Texans

14 CB Ahmad Gardner – Baltimore Ravens

15 WR Drake London – Philadelphia Eagles

16 OT Trevor Penning – Philadelphia Eagles

17 DL Devonte Wyatt – LA Chargers

18 WR Chris Olave – New Orleans Saints

19 EDGE George Karlaftis – Philadelphia Eagles

20 DL Jordan Davis – Pittsburgh Steelers

The draft falls nicely for the Steelers in the first round. With Colbert filling a lot of holes via free agency, the Steelers don’t have many glaring holes. This allows them to take the best player available in the first round. Jordan Davis has really grown on me the last few weeks. He might not play 50% of the defensive snaps, but the snaps he does play will be very disruptive. With Tyson Alualu coming back from injury, and reports that Stephon Tuitt wants to return to football, it will allow the Steelers to inject Davis into the defense in certain situations that will maximize his contributions. It also will allow for him to condition his body for an even bigger role next season with Alualu likely retiring.

21 WR Garrett Wilson – New England Patriots

22 C Tyler Linderbaum – Green Bay Packers

23 CB Kaiir Elam – Arizona Cardinals

24 G Kenyon Green – Dallas Cowboys

25 WR Jahan Dotson – Buffalo Bills

26 EDGE Jermaine Johnson – Tennessee Titans

27 CB Andrew Booth Jr. – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

28 CB Derek Stingley – Green Bay Packers

29 WR Treylon Burks – Kansas City Chiefs

30 EDGE Boye Mafe – Kansas City Chiefs

31 G Zion Johnson – Cincinnati Bengals

32 QB Kenny Pickett – Detroit Lions

Round 2

33 S Daxton Hill – Jacksonville Jaguars

34 OT Tyler Smith – Detroit Lions

35 OT Daniel Faalele – New York Jets

36 CB Roger McCreary – New York Giants

37 QB Desmond Ridder – Houston Texans

38 RB Breece Hall – New York Jets

39 CB Derion Kendrick – Chicago Bears

40 CB Kyler Gordon – Seattle Seahawks

41 EDGE Nik Bonitto – Seattle Seahawks

42 QB Sam Howell – Indianapolis Colts

43 EDGE Arnold Ebiketie – Atlanta Falcons

44 EDGE Josh Paschal – Cleveland Browns

45 OT Bernhard Raimann – Baltimore Ravens

46 CB Tariq Woolen – Minnesota Vikings

47 S Jalen Pitre – Washington Commanders

48 WR Christian Watson – Chicago Bears

49 G Logan Bruss – New Orleans Saints

50 OT Nicholas Petit-Frere – Kansas City Chiefs

51 S Lewis Cine – Philadelphia Eagles

52 S Jaquan Brisker – Pittsburgh Steelers

The draft continued to fall in the right direction for the Steelers. As of today, they’ve yet to fill the void at free safety vacated by Terrell Edmunds. While the team has a minimal offer on the table for Edmunds, it’s likely that he will eventually find more money from another team. The Steelers are reportedly still in the conversation for Pro Bowler Tyrann Mathieu, but his fate might not be decided until after the draft. If Brisker is available in the second round, the Steelers will surely take a strong look at him, and could ultimately decide he offers more value than putting money into the 29 year old Mathieu. Brisker is an astute player who seemingly knows where to be at the most opportune times. The three-year starter for Penn State made several game changing interceptions during his time at State College. He is a very athletic safety, and would be a perfect compliment to Minkah Fitzpatrick.

53 G Cole Strange – Green Bay Packers

54 LB Quay Walker – New England Patriots

55 EDGE Logan Hall – Arizona Cardinals

56 EDGE David Ojabo – Dallas Cowboys

57 RB Zamir White – Buffalo Bills

58 RB Kenneth Walker III – Atlanta Falcons

59 WR Jalen Tolbert – Green Bay Packers

60 TE Trey McBride – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

61 G Darian Kinnard – San Francisco 49ers

62 CB Coby Bryant – Kansas City Chiefs

63 OT Max Mitchell – Cincinnati Bengals

64 DL Travis Jones – Denver Broncos

Round 3

65 EDGE Cameron Thomas – Jacksonville Jaguars

66 EDGE Drake Jackson – Detroit Lions

67 S Bryan Cook – New York Giants

68 G Luke Goedeke – Houston Texans

69 TE Greg Dulcich – New York Jets

70 LB Christian Harris – Jacksonville Jaguars

71 C Luke Fortner – Chicago Bears

72 DL DeMarvin Leal – Seattle Seahawks

73 DL Phidarian Mathis – Atlanta Falcons

74 CB Marcus Jones – Atlanta Falcons

75 OT Rasheed Walker – Denver Broncos

76 WR Alec Pierce – Baltimore Ravens

77 EDGE Dominique Robinson – Minnesota Vikings

78 WR Wan’Dale Robinson – Cleveland Browns

79 TE Jelani Woods – LA Chargers

80 CB Jalyn Armour-Davis – Houston Texans

81 TE Jeremy Ruckert – New York Giants

82 WR John Metchie – Indianapolis Colts

83 CB Zyon McCollum – Philadelphia Eagles

84 WR Skyy Moore – Pittsburgh Steelers

Steelers have a glaring need at receiver after JuJu Smith-Shuster, James Washington, and Ray-Ray McCloud all departed via free agency. They would be delighted to grab local product Skyy Moore in the third round. Moore is an above average athlete with enormous hands for his size. He runs good routes, uses his breaks and leverage to create separation, is a natural hands catcher, and should eventually take a starting role in the offense.

85 OT Abraham Lucas – New England Patriots

86 LB Channing Tindall – Las Vegas Raiders

87 LB Jesse Luketa – Arizona Cardinals

88 CB Joshua Williams – Dallas Cowboys

89 TE Cade Otton – Buffalo Bills

90 S Nick Cross – Tennessee Titans

91 DL Neil Farrell Jr. – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

92 TE Charlie Kolar – Green Bay Packers

93 WR George Pickens – San Francisco 49ers

94 LB Leo Chenal – Kansas City Chiefs

95 EDGE Kingsley Enagbare – Cincinnati Bengals

96 S Kerby Joseph – Denver Broncos

97 WR Justyn Ross – Detroit Lions

98 EDGE Micheal Clemons – New Orleans Saints

99 S JT Woods – Cleveland Browns

100 LB Chad Muma – Baltimore Ravens

101 TE Isaiah Likely – New Orleans Saints

102 RB Isaiah Spiller – Miami Dolphins

103 RB Dameon Pierce – Kansas City Chiefs

104 EDGE DeAngelo Malone – LA Rams

105 DL Matthew Butler – San Francisco 49ers

Round 4

106 WR Calvin Austin III – Jacksonville Jaguars

107 S Alontae Taylor – Houston Texans

108 EDGE Isaiah Thomas – Houston Texans

109 G Dylan Parham – Seattle Seahawks

110 RB Kyren Williams – Baltimore Ravens

111 WR David Bell – New York Jets

112 QB Carson Strong – New York Giants

113 WR Khalil Shakir – Washington Commanders

114 S Juanyeh Thomas – Atlanta Falcons

115 CB Martin Emerson – Denver Broncos

116 LB Malcolm Rodriguez – Denver Broncos

117 DL Perrion Winfrey – New York Jets

118 G Marquis Hayes – Cleveland Browns

119 TE Daniel Bellinger – Baltimore Ravens

120 CB Vincent Gray – New Orleans Saints

121 G Jamaree Salyer – Kansas City Chiefs

122 CB Josh Jobe – Indianapolis Colts

123 EDGE Zachary Carter – LA Chargers

124 DL Kalia Davis – Philadelphia Eagles

125 DL Eyioma Uwazurike – Miami Dolphins

126 EDGE Myjai Sanders – Las Vegas Raiders

127 S Tycen Anderson – New England Patriots

128 S Verone McKinley III – Baltimore Ravens

129 LB Brandon Smith – Dallas Cowboys

130 OT Kellen Diesch – Buffalo Bills

131 OT Matt Waletzko – Tennessee Titans

132 LB Brian Asamoah – Green Bay Packers

133 EDGE Alex Wright – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

134 DL John Ridgeway – San Francisco 49ers

135 WR Velus Jones – Kansas City Chiefs

136 TE Cole Turner – Cincinnati Bengals

137 OT Braxton Jones – Carolina Panthers

138 LB Troy Andersen – Pittsburgh Steelers

After going to offense, the Steelers quickly turn back to the defensive side of the ball. Andersen is bit of an enigma as he has played quarterback, running back, and linebacker at Montana State. But when watching the film, his play at linebacker really jumps off the screen. He is definitely raw when it comes to technique, but you can’t question his football instincts and motor. His speed really is noticeable when running sideline-to-sideline, and his strength on the field showed up on film. He was good in pass coverage, and his ability to read and diagnose passing route concepts was obvious. With Devin Bush potentially not getting his 5th year option picked up, I feel that the Steelers are going to need some depth at the middle linebacker position.

139 C Cam Jurgens – Baltimore Ravens

140 C Zach Tom – Green Bay Packers

141 QB Jack Coan – Baltimore Ravens

142 G Ed Ingram – LA Rams

143 WR Danny Gray – Tennessee Titans

Round 5 (Steelers No Pick in 5th)

144 G Chasen Hines – Carolina Panthers

145 RB Brian Robinson – Denver Broncos

146 EDGE Amare Barno – New York Jets

147 EDGE Christopher Allen – New York Giants

148 RB James Cook – Chicago Bears

149 RB Ty Davis-Price – Carolina Panthers

150 G Sean Rhyan – Chicago Bears

151 RB Tyler Badie – Atlanta Falcons

152 RB Abram Smith – Seattle Seahawks

153 WR Makai Polk – Seattle Seahawks

154 RB Pierre Strong Jr. – Philadelphia Eagles

155 LB Aaron Hansford – Dallas Cowboys

156 G Lecitus Smith – Minnesota Vikings

157 G Joshua Ezeudu – Jacksonville Jaguars

158 EDGE Sam Williams – New England Patriots

159 LB Damone Clark – Indianapolis Colts

160 EDGE Tre Williams – LA Chargers

161 LB JoJo Domann – New Orleans Saints

162 RB Kevin Harris – Philadelphia Eagles

163 TE Chigoziem Okonkwo – New York Jets

164 S Delarrin Turner-Yell – Las Vegas Raiders

165 G Thayer Munford – Las Vegas Raiders

166 QB Aqeel Glass – Philadelphia Eagles

167 OT Vederian Lowe – Dallas Cowboys

168 G Justin Shaffer – Buffalo Bills

169 RB Kennedy Brooks – Tennessee Titans

170 DL Jayden Peevy – New England Patriots

171 P Matt Araiza – Green Bay Packers

172 EDGE Tyreke Smith – San Francisco 49ers

173 LB Jeremiah Gemmel – New York Giants

174 LB Jack Sanborn – Cincinnati Bengals

175 OT Andrew Stueber – LA Rams

176 WR Kevin Austin Jr. – Dallas Cowboys

177 G Spencer Burford – Detroit Lions

178 S Yusuf Corker – Dallas Cowboys

179 S Dane Belton – Indianapolis Colts

Round 6

180 TE Jake Ferguson – Jacksonville Jaguars

181 LB Zakoby McClain – Detroit Lions

182 QB Bailey Zappe – New York Giants

183 G Marcus McKethan – Houston Texans

184 WR Tyquan Thornton – Minnesota Vikings

185 CB Montaric Brown – Buffalo Bills

186 S Percy Butler – Chicago Bears

187 TE Teagan Quitoriano – San Francisco 49ers

188 CB Matt Hankins – Jacksonville Jaguars

189 LB Mike Rose – Washington Commanders

190 P Jordan Stout – Atlanta Falcons

191 RB Rachaad White – Minnesota Vikings

192 S Smoke Monday – Minnesota Vikings

193 TE James Mitchell – Dallas Cowboys

194 CB Cam Taylor-Britt – Philadelphia Eagles

195 G Zach Thomas – LA Chargers

196 DL Haskell Garrett – Baltimore Ravens

197 RB Quan White – Jacksonville Jaguars

198 WR Erik Ezukanma – Jacksonville Jaguars

199 TE Chase Allen – Carolina Panthers

200 RB Tyler Allgeier – New England Patriots

201 RB Snoop Conner – Arizona Cardinals

202 RB Jaylen Warren – Cleveland Browns

203 CB Jermaine Waller – Buffalo Bills

204 WR Josh Johnson – Tennessee Titans

205 RB Ty Chandler – Houston Texans

206 G Cade Mays – Denver Broncos

207 CB Akayleb Evans – Houston Texans

208 QB Cole Kelley – Pittsburgh Steelers

The former 4-star recruit for Arkansas ended up transferring back close to home at Southeast Louisiana. He had to sit out a year as this was before the transfer portal, and then the team sat out the pandemic season as well. But when Kelley finally got on the field as a starter, he did not disappoint. He threw for 5,124 yards, 44 TDs, 491 rushing yards and 16 rushing TDs in 2021 on his way to winning the Walter Payton FCS Award for top player. The towering Kelley at 6’7″ and 249lbs isn’t your classic statue in the pocket. He has the ability to get out of the pocket and run. I feel there isn’t a quarterback in the top end of this draft worthy of a first round pick. Especially with Mitchell Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and Dwayne Haskins already on the roster. But Rudolph and Haskins are set to be free agents in 2023, and Trubisky is really only guaranteed this year. Kelley should at least be a nice addition to the practice squad with potential to push in 2023.

209 LB Darrian Beavers – Cincinnati Bengals

210 CB Tariq Castro-Fields – New England Patriots

211 WR Charleston Rambo – LA Rams

212 RB Jerome Ford – LA Rams

213 WR Jalen Nailor – Atlanta Falcons

214 EDGE Tyree Johnson – LA Chargers

215 TE Jalen Wydermyer – Arizona Cardinals

216 OT Nick Zakelj – Indianapolis Colts

217 TE Grant Calcaterra – Detroit Lions

218 LB Terrel Bernard – LA Rams

219 S Reed Blankenship – Tennessee Titans

220 C Dohnovan West – San Francisco 49ers

221 S Quentin Lake – San Francisco 49ers

222 DL D.J. Davidson – Jacksonville Jaguars

Round 7

223 K Cade York – Cleveland Browns

224 EDGE Jeffrey Gunter – Miami Dolphins

225 C Alec Lindstrom – Pittsburgh Steelers

226 CB Mykael Wright – Cincinnati Bengals

227 WR Bo Melton – Las Vegas Raiders

228 G Bill Dunkle – Green Bay Packers

229 OT Myron Cunningham – Seattle Seahawks

230 DL Otito Ogbonnia – Washington Commanders

231 DL Esezi Otomewo – Buffalo Bills

232 WR Dontario Drummond – Denver Broncos

233 C Ben Brown – Kansas City Chiefs

234 CB Cordale Flott – Detroit Lions

235 EDGE Zach VanValkenburg – Jacksonville Jaguars

236 WR Tré Turner – LA Chargers

237 RB Trestan Ebner – New Orleans Saints

238 DL Noah Elliss – LA Rams

239 EDGE Adam Anderson – Indianapolis Colts

240 CB Mario Goodrich – Washington Commanders

241 OT Obinna Eze – Pittsburgh Steelers

The former TCU Horn Frog is a mountain of a man. At 6′ 6 1/2″ and 321lbs, Eze is huge. But even more impressive is his 36+” long arms and nearly 86″ wingspan, and it is easy to see why he was able to stone some of the best pass rushers in the nation. As any man of his size, he does have issues with speed rushers, but with his length and strength, he has been able to win the majority of those battles. The Nigerian native wasn’t even allowed to play football until his senior season due to Tennessee foreign exchange rules for student athletes. He is very raw, but the upside is undeniable and I feel with some coaching and training could easily become a starting tackle in the NFL.

242 DL Marquan McCall – Carolina Panthers

243 WR Kyle Phillips – Kansas City Chiefs

244 OT Cordell Volson – Arizona Cardinals

245 TE Austin Allen – Houston Texans

246 S Leon O’Neal – Cleveland Browns

247 P Cameron Dicker – Miami Dolphins

248 RB Hassan Haskins – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

249 S Kolby Harvell-Peel – Green Bay Packers

250 RB Isiah Pacheco – Minnesota Vikings

251 S Sterling Weatherford – Kansas City Chiefs

252 LB Jake Hansen – Cincinnati Bengals

253 QB Eric Barriere – LA Rams

254 CB Decobie Durant – LA Chargers

255 LB Vi Jones – LA Chargers

256 RB Jerrion Ealy – Arizona Cardinals

257 G Ja’Tyre Carter – Arizona Cardinals

258 S Kendrick Duncan – Green Bay Packers

259 CB Damarion Williams – Kansas City Chiefs

260 WR Isaiah Weston – LA Chargers

261 QB D’Eriq King – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

262 CB Sam Webb – San Francisco 49ers

The mock is interesting if unlikely to fall that well for the Steelers. I think this mock shows that not panicking and trading up pays massive dividends. Davis is likely gone before 20, Brisker before 52, but so what? Other really good players necessarily must now be available since those two guys were picked. Penning and Watson? Jameson Williams and Pitre?

Dear Steelers: The message is please don't panic, freak out, trade your 1st and 3rd and another 1st to move up to get a guy who might or might not be an NFL QB by 2024.

Thank you.

Unless the Steelers bring Kelley in for a pre draft visit, they haven't shown interest in him. I get that Steelers fans are harping the same narrative from the get go of this class, "there are no first round QBs worth taking", but if you're going to try and pigeon hole one in the later rounds because "you'd prefer that, than a first" at least make it a guy they've shown interest in

If we got wyatt in the second I’d be ecstatic…. That dude is the dlineman we need…

The thing about cole kelly is he is mobile, but i think doesn’t fit their mold of what they seem to want… they are looking at small and fast… not the bus version of QB…

Look I really would like the kid as a practice squad qb, but its just as likely that we can sign him when someone else cuts him to our practice squad… he won’t make a team out of the gate… his mechanics and bad habits are worse than landry jones… he is like a two to three year project at least…

I don't agree with your assessment of Kelly at all. Mechanically, He's right up there with Picket and far better than Willis. He has a great arm, works through progressions with active feet and he has a very accurate long ball. You're right in that he isn't fast enough to run the zone read in the NFL but in the right system, this guy can be a steal. The biggest knock on him is the competition that he played against. He had a 73% accuracy rating last season behind that screen door of an offensive line.

Not a bad draft. It would address many issues and fix the run defense, which was as bad.

I am simply going off the first five scouting reports I found on him… all say the exact same stuff about his bad reads and poor mechanics… I certainly did not scout him myself lol…

I think this post fits in this thread ... my most recent mock.

This is a #1 WR. Go free agent in 2023, Johnson. Don't care. Talented NT/DT, a starting RT who will make Najee's life much easier, help with the pass rush, a CB a certain poster loves and who is a very talented kick returner, backup RB, and a legit SS who makes special teams better right now.

Lots of immediate help, plus two day-two picks in the 2023 draft. Wind up picking later in the 2023 draft and need that QB? Now have a 1st, 2nd and 3 3rds, so dealing the 2023 1st, a 3rd and the 2024 #1 to move into top-5 doable.

If the STEELERS can get either or a variant of the original poster & this Steeltime's draft I would be very happy.

I Appreciate the OL help, we need it

Mock the mock

20. Derek Stingley, CB, LSU
-I know the game is won in the trenches and Stingley is a boom/bust type player, I just don't want to pass up a potentially elite player at a premium position.

52. Travis Jones, IDL, UConn
-From everything I've read, Jones projects to be a pretty good player at the NFL level.

84. George Pickens, WR, Georgia
-Moore is the safe pick here, I'm swinging for the fences with Pickens.

138. Sean Rhyan, OL, UCLA
-Trying to find a quality developmental OL with guard/tackle ability.

208. Darrian Beavers, ILB, Cincinnati
-For a position that constantly seems to struggle with depth, here's another attempt at it.

225. Bo Melton, WR, Rutgers
-I want the Steelers to add speed to the position. Melton has it.

241. Damarri Mathis, CB, Pitt
-I didn't plan to double down on cornerback, but realized Mathis was still available and he's an absolute steal at this point of the draft.

I'll mock the OP trying a different spin in case Davis weren't available:
R1 Stingley CB. Too good to pass up, he might be the next great NFL CB.
R2 Mathis, DT. There's your new Alualu, can play both NT and DT.
R3 Pickens, WR
R4 Austin, WR double dip
R6 Beavers, LB we all love Beavers except maybe some that love sheep more
R7 Haskins, RB

Defense heavy for sure but what a haul in D. Still like the OP better. andersen in the 4th might become the steal of the draft

I couldn't get past this post without a comment on #6, a very good post all around.

Thank you.
There’s usually 35-50 first round prospects in any given year. Not by every team but if you took all 32 teams draft boards and listed their top 32 you’d have multiple repeats but a good chunk listed higher than draft gurus have. That said usually at least a handful “surprisingly” fall. The Steelers could just as easy go Jahan Dotson, Travis Jones and JT Woods and get a comparable rise on all three positions in the differing rounds.

Like I said I let the draft fall and took BPA for positions I consider still needs.

The Steelers could definitely waste a first round pick on a QB. I hope that Colbert is either blowing smoke or doing his due diligence in case a guy falls and we can scoop one up later.

But as for guys they brought in for a visit who’d be around late there’s only 1. Chris Olafokun who is at best a priority UDFA. I doubt know how much investment the Steelers would need for a late round pick at QB. A 6th round pick isn’t a huge investment from the team. Probably a guy you look at in camp and decide if you want to PS him and if so do you want to protect him each week.

The Steelers have stated publicly they want a mobile QB. I have stated publicly they are trying to fit a narrative. I’ll leave it at that.

But mobile QBs are not the wave of the future. The mobile QB is cyclical as the NFL gets enamored with them every 10-15 years or so. It’s fun to watch but they don’t win any championships. Then the defenses adjust and they start winning less games. You will always need a pass first QB. If they can scramble after the play breaks down that’s a bonus. Mahomes and Allen are pass first QB’s with the ability to scramble. Kelley is in a lesser extent that same mold.

Then the defenses adjust and they start winning less games. You will always need a pass first QB. If they can scramble after the play breaks down that’s a bonus. Mahomes and Allen are pass first QB’s with the ability to scramble. Kelley is in a lesser extent that same mold.

Action Jackson over at the ravens is a good example. Defenses (ours for sure) have figured him out and he can't do squat. I hope what he has done will still garner that GabillZion dollars per year contract,......

Point being he is a "RB" who who has an arm. He is going to be on the downhill side of his career very soon.

Yeah, as did the Chargers in Jackson's first playoff game. They played 2 deep, took away his first read, had Perryman spy Jackson and made him look like a really, really bad QB. Jackson started off something like 3-14 with 2 fumbles and a pick.

He does that pretty often nowadays.

I know! With that Watson deal I feel they’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. Pay a QB who’s regressed every season and crazy amount of money and handcuff your team for 5+ years. Or trade him and piss off your simpleton fan base.

Now it’s time for the bunglas to bungle and everything will be right with the AFC North.
