How can you explain a team on fire like the Steelers only giving 4.5 points to what has been a brutal Jets team? You can't and that is what really bothers me about this game as a Steelers fan. The betting public is literally going to pound the Steelers like it is their job and when that happens some fishy stuff tends to go on. I'm not saying the Steelers will lose but it would not shock me either. I figured the Steelers would be 6-7 point favorites at least...hope I am wrong but I now have a very bad feeling about Sunday's game. Thoughts?

Jets are 1-4 at home. Single-digit losses to Chicago and Detroit, lost by 14 to Denver, lost by 20 to Buffalo with 6 turnovers. Steelers are 2-2 on the road, and needed a late pick-six to beat the Jags by 8 in Jacksonville. Pittsburgh coming down off of a big primetime win over their arch-rivals. Vegas has more faith in Vick than Geno Smith.

I don't think the line is unreasonable.

I agree with your assessments, I also see this as a classic Vegas overcorrection. The line is where it should be, but if you're projecting this offense to win by a TD, then this is a good game to put your money on.

The Jets are 3rd in rushing and 6th in defense (or vice versa, but both are highly rated) and Vick hat a 106 passer rating this past week, he also plays well against the Steelers. 4.5 points doesn't seem unreasonable, plus the Steelers are on the road.

The Steelers have recently been quite fond of losing to crap teams, especially after huge wins. It's a topic of much heated discussion on this board.

It wouldn't stun me AT ALL if this is a close game in the 4th....or if the Jets win.

All inm all, i don't think vegas is far off. I've got steelers 41 - jets 23, but i wear B&G glasses. My money, if I was a better, would be on the StEeLeRs.

Salute the nation

I'd prefer the Steelers be -10 underdogs

Yeah i don't understand how they work.. I know they want even money on both sides, but i would think most would bet on steelers. It's like when the Colts came here and were only 3 point favorites. I did not understand that either. Logic would have had the Colts at least - 7. We could not score or stop anyone from scoring at that point.

The Vegas guys always watch and bet the trend. Our teams trend is to play down to bad teams.

Lets see . . .Tampa Bay this year, Oakland and Minnesota last year, Oakland and Cleveland(?) the year before? Yeah i think vegas know we are prone to play down to the competition.

These are the worry game for Steeler fans. We need to win these next two games going into break. I just hope we stay aggressive on offense and not play as we did against Tampa.

I completely agree with your views.

Jets are home so that knocks 3 points off the line. You have the steelers red hot and the Jets ice cold. Lots of gamblers bet based on a team being "due". So you will have lots of people thinking the Steelers cool off after 2 huge weeks and the Jets are DUE for a win, so they take the Jets. You also have fools who still think Vick is a great QB.

Would the fact were going on to our bye week after this have anything to do with it?

I agree with stoney,, Trap game... good teams win these ones.

Vegas knows that the Steelers play down to their opponents. Simple.

Whole new attitude on offense. Vegas is wrong...

Not until they see our guys win and do it in a convincing manor against bad teams. The professionals go with hard facts, fans go with their heart. Until the trend changes they will bet the trend.

The spread is set in order to get the same amount of money bet on each team. It is rarely more than a touchdown no matter who is playing who.

I would say one thing for the yets they are due to get a win or two soon. It will likely happen to a team that over looks them and looses a game rather than gets beat by them and with their record they would be an easy team to overlook. I hope the guys can stay focused and throw for another 6 touch downs, hope our defense can keep them under 14 points.

NFL home teams are usually given automatic -3 points just for being at home. So really Vegas sees this as 7.5 pt swing if the Steelers are -4.5 favorites as you say.

This week James Harrison will eat one of Vicks legs on national TV thereby rendering him useless. Gradkowski will play the entire 2nd half after Ben not only breaks Norm Van Brocklins record but tosses 12 touchdown passes by Halftime.
Seriously though Rex Ryans defense will be a challenge for Ben & Co. Andrew Luck although throwing for a bunch of yards came up short and I see Luck as a bigger threat than Vick. We'll see.
