Trade Deadline

Several successful non first rounders too
Just have to have a guy that fits the system and has the tools.

They can be found, just gotta poke around

Our best QB last year was a 3rd rounder, better than both 1sts
Our current guy a 3rd and looking better than the 1st.

Heck there’s some guys real late in the draft that looked pretty good too.

First round QBs are maybe 40/60 successful at best, it’s a fallacy that they have to be taken early and that the early guys pan out.

Seems the best move is to take one every year until you have one, and repeat the process as soon as a contract year is approaching for your current guy.

It is by far the most important position and requires investment other than trying to plug the hole with cast off previously failed first rounders from other squads.
Kordell Stewart got an unbelievably talented team to AFC championship and was run out of town because he couldn't pass. He was a second. Give me one other name.

Commanders get Lattimore from the Aints.

Dak Prescott, Derek Carr, Geno Smith, Russ Wilson are all starters. Odds aren’t great at draftIng a starter out of the top 11 to be honest. But I think if you get a young guy with some skills to sit for 3 years behind a veteran who wants to help a young guy get better you could definitely develop one. I think if the Steelers keep Russ he would probably be a good mentor to a day two draft pick. I think if you move forward with Fields you are going to want a veteran who is cool with being a mentoring backup. But Fields probably isn’t going to be much more than we saw.

The thing is we aren’t going to sniff #11 or earlier without some big trade happening. I think the Steelers best look at Jaxson Dart, Drew Allar, and Garrett Nussmeier as day two options to sit and develop for 2-3 years as the backup. I also wouldn’t bring them in to handoff in mop up duty. I would let them run the offense when they get playing time. Doesn’t matter if we are up by 3 tds or down by 3. Get them in and used to the nfl speed. But other than that we’d have to trade Watt and Porter to get into that sweet spot for a top tier QB.

A 5th round pick for Mike “couldn’t catch the herpes in a ***** house” Williams.

Horrible trade.
Mr. Know -it - all strikes again. Guy hadn’t even played a down for us you negative a-hole.

I am more than willing to give the guy a chance. Welcome to Pittsburgh Mike!

Sounds like a lot for him seeing how little other teams have to give for better talent

He hasn’t played a down yet? Wow. Who have I been watching the last 8 seasons? 😂 🤡

Save your homerisms for someone as gaslighted as you.

Just gave multiple examples of 3rds better than firsts but if ya want some good second rounders Brees, Favre, Carr, Dalton, Randall come to mind…I’m sure there are several others too, that’s just spitting some names from my memory.

Good QBs have been had in virtually every round of the draft

Again, just have to poke around…they’re available all over the draft just like every other position

The draft is far from an exact science and round taken doesn’t guarantee a damn thing.

I can name first round busts on a list longer than your other arm.

Love you're optimism. Want some Kleenex???
Just realism. I just read the Panthers wanted too much for Thielen. If they traded the 39th pick for a 4th after 1.5 years I can’t imagine them not jumping on a 5th for Thielen but maybe I’m wrong.

Maybe the thought is we’ll run MW on constant go routes preventing defenses from doubling GP all the time and then it should open up the middle for Freiermuth and Washington. I just don’t see Williams catching onto the offense really quickly.

My over/under for him is 150 yards the rest of the season.

I said Steelers

Would rather have them went after a dline or cb.

Like you didn’t know I meant he hasn’t played a down for the Steelers.

And I’m quite sure you have followed Mike Williams career ever so closely. Homerisms have nothing to do with anything. I would always welcome a new addition, and give a guy an opportunity before calling it a “horrible trade” and “couldn’t catch the herpes in a whorehouse” Great journalism there. People like you are dregs of society.

Sure I might of rather had Hopkins for a 5th. But I am more than willing to give Mike a chance.

Mike Williams had big seasons with Chargers. Flattened with Jets. They had no QB until this year and he didn't gel with Rogers. He has a reasonable salary next season if he is successful. It takes two to trade. As far as I know he is healthy. You could parcel Theilen but it's eye of beholder. Good enough as far as Im concerned.

that's as small microcosm as it can get
I'm simply saying from before Ben and towards end of his career they used less then first rounders on QB and none of them had any degree of real success. Assuming they sign Russ I'm not spending a pick a top three on a QB. Look what they've got in last three years in top three. It's a wasted pick. Get ****** take QB high.

Seems like an over payment
Or an under talent
Not sure which
Maybe both

Yippie!!! a Meh move has been made

He was traded while Rodgers was on McAfee. Rodgers gave the typical PC response. He didn’t have a rapport with Rodgers because they intercrossed injuries. 5th rounder, is acceptable, IMO. We may even get one back via comp. Slayton was a non-starter trade. A conditional 4th (to 3rd) is reportedly the asking price. Really thought both GMs would work a deal since the Mara’s and Rooney’s have a close relationship dating back to the 30’s. All this talk about Courtland Sutton was BS, Payton thinks he can win a playoff spot.

he had an ACL tear early 2023 season. Let’s hope he is now getting to that fully recovered.
