17% named Trump as their first choice for the GOP nomination in the 2016 presidential race.

Ted Cruz and Donald Trump to meet Wednesday in New York

Sen. Ted Cruz (Tex.) and real-estate mogul Donald Trump -- each running for the Republican presidential nomination as anti-establishment outsiders -- are cultivating an already chummy relationship at this early stage of the 2016 race and will huddle Wednesday in New York.

The meeting was confirmed by Republicans familiar with both campaigns who requested anonymity to discuss private conversations. Aides to Cruz declined to comment, as did Trump representatives.

The conclave is the latest sign of budding solidarity between the contenders, who have been friendly for several years and who have put forceful critiques of illegal immigration and their party’s establishment at the center of their bids.

Trump has already passed the he's a clown phase. He has over taken known governors and senators, and is #1 in the polls. No one is underestimating Trump now. He has the attention of both sides of the isle, and some Ronald Reagan like qualities in policy and TV experience. For now I back Jeb Bush, but if Trumps keeps his surge and polls well in NY vs. Hillary Clinton, allegiance can change.

While Sanders is making noise, he’s has not achieved the #1 spot.

I wish he'd throw down his tax policy, but he must be saving it for when he needs to bring out a hammer. I really hope it's a flat tax. (sorry Ark) He'd be screwing himself out of corporate loopholes, but he has enough F-you money where that shouldn't matter.

If Trump can show the middle class a tax policy that puts money in their pockets he'll have a sledgehammer. The middle class is sliding backward, thanks in part to over taxation. The other part of the problem is un-checked spending. Obama has accumulated more debt in his presidency that all the other presidencies combined.

How about passing a budget then sticking to it, combined with paying down the debt?
