U.S. Trade Deficit Widened in August

WASHINGTON—The U.S. trade deficit widened in August, as a strong domestic economy boosted Americans’ purchases of foreign automobiles, industrial supplies and petroleum.

The foreign-trade gap in goods and services expanded 6.4% from the prior month to a seasonally adjusted $53.24 billion in August, the Commerce Department said Friday.

Trump and Ford have been squaring off since well before the 2016 election, when then-presidential candidate originally threatened to impose hefty tariffs on vehicles Ford intended to start importing from a factory in Mexico. The carmaker eventually scrubbed that plan, but rather than return production to the U.S. it decided to move it to China.

And once more you don’t reward companies trying to move labor to where pay is basically right above slave labor and environmental and safety regulations don’t really exist...

Give them time, a better deal will come. China economy took a tremendous drop from the tariffs. To make up the loss if imports USA business either current or new can make up the difference. That means more job here, and more paid taxes here.

He traveled to the United States last December to some of our most destitute communities such as Skid Row in LA, poor African American areas in the Alabama, impoverished coal communities in West Virginia and to Puerto Rico. He issued his report on June 1, 2018. It should be front page news.

But we also have 40 million citizens who live in poverty. Five million live in the absolute deprivation we usually associate with the developing world. Four in ten Americans are so broke that they could not cover an emergency expense of $400 without selling something or borrowing.

What was Obama's trade deficit the year he left office ( Jan 2017 )? About the same, I think.

Watch, China will cave a bit for fairer trade, the tariffs are killing them. If they don't you see more companies here picking up the slack, and plenty of other nations in line to trade with us.

China has offered over 140 concessions already. I’m sure this is all over CNN. If the only thing that comes from this is China stops stealing patented tech, then it’s a monumental achievement that would help not just the US but most of the world.
