We need a new Head Coach.......FIRE TOMLIN NOW!!!

The Standard that has become is highly disappointing. Who are the Steelers? What type of team are they?Their offense sometimes still looks like a chinese fire drill and the defense in it's entirety is just ******* sad.The Pittsburgh steelers do not play defense like that. At the very least even if they did lack talent to compete at the highest level they can still play physical. These guys gang arm tackle,it's ******* tragically awful. They need to do a serious evaluation of who the hell they want to be in the offseason this year and STICK with it. We sure as hell need a corner, a safety and a blue chip linebacker in the draft. A wrecking ball NT is an absolute must if we're going to still play a 3-4,otherwise it's worthless. Without a real pass rush and a beast in the middle we're going to get smoked by scrub qb's on a consistent basis. A good pass rush will make an average corner look fantastic or at least hold his own.

We have systemic problems. Look at Arians: fired here, coach of the year in Indy on the verge of being coach of the year in Arizona. Sanders looks all pro in Denver. We just seem dated out of whack. The ppl making all the decisions just seem out of touch like they don't even watch the games. Ben is horribly over payed. After the second rape charge they should have told him to test the market. We could have kept a lot of players like sanders, Wallace, Lewis, and used the picks we used to replace him to plug other holes. I don't know... We are looking pretty 8-8 right now.

Somebody make a billboard outta this and I'll throw in on it

I'm gonna go ahead and put a different spin on this thread.

Tomlin sucks.

Let me qualify that. He might be a top 20 coach. There might be teams who would love to have him. Steelers deserve much better. Mediocrity is not acceptable. Got news for the ownership. Steeler fans are Steeler fans because we like to be winners. This town adopted the Steelers when we became winners. We lived through the lean years with the Emperor and Captain Spittle, because there was a sense that the spirit was still there, even if the talent wasn't. Bubby had the spirit. He just sucked. Ben's got the talent, but he lacks the spirit. He talks a good game but doesn't deliver anymore, and I'm not sure that he gives a ****. We gave Cowher some slack when we didn't win when we should have, because it was obvious that the spirit was still there - he was still spitting on everybody. This Tomlin regime is missing that. Never sure it had it. Tomlin does not know how to be elite. Doesn't know what to expect from his coaches and players, and doesn't know what to expect from himself. JV.

Just my opinion. I know that I've never talked to so many Steeler fans who are ready to just not give a **** anymore. In my 40+ years following the Steelers, that's new. The 80's were bad, but not like this. The Rooney's need to listen to the fans. Keep ******* us, and we'll bail. This is Pittsburgh. If you are with us, we are with you. If not, you got problems.

excellent post

We suck right now but no way was it worst then the 80s

In the 80s we still had hope, now we got the dope.

I guess different perspectives cause the 80s sucked for me. Besides 84 and 89.

In today's BTSC, Tomlin got another blistering review. Aside from my buddy Berm, there's not a lot of support left for 'Cool Shades'.

So I am not a fan overreacting to this painful season. Like many of us, I am confused how we can look great at times, and then lose to so many horrible teams. I guess i am concluding that our talent is lacking but that is a topic for another day.

Today i want to discuss Tomlin. I have been souring on him for the last couple years, and have a serious question: what does he do, and why should we believe he is a good coach?

Does he develop awesome game plans that give us an edge over our opponents? I doubt anyone thinks that.

Does he motivate his team to achieve at high level? Losing to the dregs of the league seems to point to no.

Does he develop and "air of discipline"? Not likely. Too many penalties and blown assignments for me to believe that.

So what does he bring to table? Won a super bowl. Team had a GREAT DEFENSE and an underachieving offense. Defense and Ben's heroics are responsible for that win IMO.

My last straw with Tomlin may be the post game quote from this week:

"The bottom line is we did not have enough cohesion at different points in the game to overcome our weaknesses to secure victory,

WHAT IN THE HELL DOES THIS EVEN MEAN??? We joke about "this weeks tortured cliche from Tomlin". But really. What the hell??

Someone needs to convince me that he is worthy of an NFL head coaching job because I just don't see it..

Poor Mikey, they just keep pilin' on.

The only problem with looking for a new coach is will they make the new coach hold on to a certain DC? How much say has Tomlin had on who he can hire and who he can't? This is one reason i personally wouldn't mind a change...but it would have to be a complete change across the board. While a lot want to blame just Tomlin(who should get blame) i will put blame also on DL...then even some on the Rooney's for doing there best Al Davis impersonality by getting to invovled in who Tomlin hires and doesn't hire.

On my way to work while listening to cowherd yesterday, he brought up Tomlin, also calling him out, saying that team "is a mess" and that tomlin has to be held accountable

I would entertain the thought of Interviewing Kyle Shanahan (OC Cleveland) for the HC job. See who he would bring in as coordinators. He certainly calls a good game and has far more experience than Tomlin did when he was brought in.

Oh,one more thing. If Tomlin is fired he will be offered the HC job of the Raiders the same day.

I think if we fire Tomlin, he could find a much better fit (short-term) in San Francisco (pending the anticipated Jim Harbaugh trade/firing) or New York Giants (pending Coughlin's firing).

Both those situations need "new voices".

If we were to anticipate coaching opening heading into this off-season you have the following:

San Francisco
New York Jets
Oakland
New York Giants (85% possible)
Atlanta (75% possible)

Outside chances are Washington, Chicago and Carolina.

That opens up the following "fired" coaches:

Coughlin, Mike Smith, Jim Harbaugh, Dennis Allen, Tony Sparano and Rex Ryan.

Significant assistants on those staffs:

Dirk Koetter, Mike Tice, Mike Nolan (Atlanta)
Marty Morninweg, Dennis Thurman, Bobby April Jr. (New York Jets)
Perry Fewell (New York Giants)
Greg Olson, Bobby April (Oakland)
Greg Roman, Mike Solari, Vic Fangio (San Fran)

The rumors are already starting that Oakland wants Harbaugh and he would like take his entire staff across the bay (or to Los Angeles).

Giants would go conservative and might interview people like Mike Smith and Mike Nolan and other former coaches (Jack Del Rio might fit well).

The list of prospective coordinators right now:

Todd Bowles (Arizona DC, minority)
Hugh Jackson (Cincinnati OC, minority)
Kyle Shanahan (Cleveland OC)
Adam Gase (Denver OC)
Tom Clements (Green Bay OC)
Dan Quinn (Seattle DC)
John Pagano (San Diego DC)

I would consider this group of NFL coaching prospects "unspectacular", especially on the offensive side of the ball and think quite a few new openings in the NFL are going to filled by college coaches this off-season.

While I don't anticipate (much to my chagrin) that Tomlin and his staff will be part of this group. I think if I was looking for a head coach, it would be on the offensive side of the ball and I would look hard at college prospects in addition to a few on the above list.

....Okay??

Great for us, maybe we'll finally be able to beat them if that happens

It means: I have no ******* clue what I'm doing. I stepped in **** eight years ago, but now the tide is all the way out, and I've been swimming naked.

I think it was an euphemistic way of saying,"We're a ******* mess right now and are so far from the standard at the moment that we must board an airplane to get back to it.

All I could do was shake my head when I heard more of Mike's nonsense. It's more of the same double speak bullshit that he used on the Rooneys to get the job in the first place. I wonder if he talks to the players like this and if he does, how the hell do they not just start laughing out loud? Just like I don't know how the reporters can sit in on his useless, stupid press conferences week in and week out. He's a joke.

I can picture Tomlin on cooking Thanksgiving dinner: "Obviously the turkey did not procure enough temperature to properly develop into an edible, life sustaining sustenance. We fell short of securing a proper family dining experience. We accept and acknowledge that short coming."

I would take Rex Ryan or Jim Harbaugh in a heartbeat

LMFAO

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Steel G again.

I don't mean to fart in your coffee but none of this fits the Rooney rule. Try again

Where is the "Fire Colbert Now" thread?

If he drafts half-way decent over the last 6 seasons we wouldn't be in this ****** mess.

IMHO, of course.

Tomlin is a good, not great, HC but our D talent is way below average at this point. Nobody can win with this ****. REminds me of the Marino lead Dolphins...all offense and **** D. Hate to see Ben fade away like Marino did.

Tomlin is at least half responsible for the draft as well. Which is why most use the term "Tombert" when talking about the draft and the players. Tomlin has a lot of say in the draft. Colbert was never brought in to be the talent evaluator czar. He wasn't even given the GM title until just a few years ago. There is no way Colbert goes from drafting 3-4 players under Cowher to drafting 4-3 type players under Tomlin unless the coaches have huge inputs into who is drafted. Cowher and Colbert would have never drafted players like Hood who are 4-3 players.

And the sooner we get rid of the Tombertbeauley the better off we will be.
