So, you're cool with this bunch of pass rushers? You think they are good, huh?

No I'm not, I think they suck. But I'm not simple-minded enough to believe that the quality of coaching doesn't impact their quality of play on the field. My whole point was that I'm not so sure they are all just bad players. I think they are badly coached. There's no way we can so consistently whiff on defensive talent when we're pretty solid at bringing in offensive talent.

I'm not trying to pick an argument but if you believe that then you have to believe that The Bruce and Toddster are better coaches than Dick LeBeau. No, I think that Tombert simply can't evaluate and draft defensive players. We had the #1 defense in the league for YEARS with mostly the same coaching staff. Given the last 8 years of draft to look at, I'd say that other than WR's and RB's Tombert doesn't know their *** from a hole in the ground.

The main problem I have with this is that DL is still here and you have to know he has some pretty strong input on defensive players that are getting drafted or brought in as FA's, especially, early draft picks. More to the point, his input can be as candid as he wants because he knows he ain't getting fired. I don't think they draft these players with out DL saying "Yeah, OK." It is extremely unlikely that they draft a defensive player early with DL saying "No, he is not worth that position."

Agreed...I don't see any situation where DL is still here and not having a large say in who they bring in on defense...If he wasn't I'm sure he would of just walked away.

I love this thread. It matters a damn if it's a win or loss. SOMEBODY has to get it going again every week.

This deserves karma, Mr Burgundy. Unfortunately I can not give it at this moment. I have given you karma recently. Sorry. funny **** tho. Others will hit you...

What a joy it was to watch the game yesterday.

Now, for the love GOD, beat Atlanta like you're supposed to!!!

There are people on here that think Tomlin is only responsible for press conference. The idea that DL has a "large" say in drafting mind boggling. Why in the hell would DL draft Hood? A guy that is fit for a 4-3 defense. Or Timmons who is a 4-3 OLB. Why would he draft so many players that don't even fit the defense he is running? Why did he change after Cowher left? Why for YEARS did DL have a say in the drafting and only drafted players that fit his system then magically start drafting players that didn't?

I know you people love Tomlin so much that you don't want to hang the drafting on him but damn to throw DL under the bus with no evidence at all is just a huge reach.

Why would you think DL, would stick around all of this time if he was completely ignored on every draft pick? He could have his pick of teams but has chosen to stick with a team who drafts people he says "No" to every time? That would, truly, be mind boggling.

Personally, I think they kept DL around because he knows defensive talent. I think the fact that he is drafting guys who are better suited to a 4-3 is by design. I think the switch is coming next year or the year after. DL will retire when the switch is made.

I honestly don't believe that. I just made it up.

No, what is truly mind boggling is that people want to resolve Tomlin of any responsibility even to the point of blaming a DC. You think DC spends a lot of time watching college football and tracking stats? Again please tell me why he would draft players that don't fit his scheme... I'd love to hear this. Why would he do that if he had enough power to over ride not only his boss but his boss' boss. Can we say Haley is responsible for Bell? Sorry it just another ploy to excuse Tomlin's faults nothing more nothing less.

I wasn't aware I was trying to absolve (not resolve) MT of anything. Thanks for clearing that up.

You are correct and I've decided it is much more reasonable that the Rooneys, MT and Colbert have a guy with 50 ******* years of NFL experience and do not ask his opinion on a draft prospects abilities. "Hey, Dick, we know all about your experience in all that, but you can go back to your nap. We got this. We will let you know how it turns out."

Meanwhile, DL keeps thinking "why are they drafting these turds? Well, no one else will hire me, might as well go to work today"

I'm all clear on it now.

So from Tomlin's first draft he has trumped DL on players that fit his into his scheme and for all these years DL just stays on? Really? It is of my opinion that Tomlin was told to keep DL around and if this is correct it really makes less sense not to use DL input into players that fit his scheme. Oh. By the way everyone is to be blame for are poor drafting. Tomlin Colbert don't get a pass. Never said that.

Aw, knock it the hell off.

I would lose no sleep if Tomlin was fired. That being said, everything that is wrong with the Steelers is not all his fault.

67 ******' pages. If you learn one thing as you proceed through life, it is that when things go right or wrong it is a combination of things. People just get tired of the incessant Tomlin bashing. It gets so old.

Let's say you finally get everybody on this board to agree with you. Then what?

That is really my point. I could understand DL sticking around the first 3 or 4 years as the players he knew from before left the team. But, even if he has no draft input, why would he stick around while these guys draft losers? If he had quit, he would have had another job before the ink on his resignation letter was dry.

Go go one step further...If Vader is correct then by DL deciding to stay on knowing these players are better suited for a 4 -3 scheme he is actually hindering our team by staying on for all these years........so either way DL is screwing us over....

I don't know why you bother, AJ. Don't you know what people say is irrelevant. You can watch a 20 second video and figure out all kinds of stuff, or just rely on what you infer from other actions rather than listening to people.

No, I think you're right. Coaches and players are notoriously candid in press conferences and interviews.

Ben: We really left it all out there on the field today!

Ark: Did you guys hear that?! THEY LEFT IT OUT ON THE FIELD!!"

Harrison: Our game plan is to give it 110% and fight for every inch today!

Andrewjosh: OH MY GOD 110% IS JUST SOO SO ******* MUCH!! What a gameplan!

Troy: We just had to reach deep down inside and pull out our best selves!!

Ark: *scribbles furiously in "Football Strategy" notebook

Tomlin: Above the line, unleash hell, obviously

Andrewjosh: *cums

And again, I'm glad to see coaching amounts to nothing more than saying "Don't slouch! We're alllll punching our time clocks today!!" I thought there was all kinds of, like, X and O stuff with playbooks and audibles and stuff. And salary cap/personnel management. I now know all it takes is telling your players to punch their ******* time clocks and stand up straight.

Kinda makes me wonder why Tomlin didn't work on this slouching problem sooner. But I'm confident it's someone else's fault.

The best part from sundays win Tomlin guaranteed another non losing season.

Which is exactly what I said. And I was confident you would be along to let me know what I meant. Good work. Thanks for the education.

Then I'll need your help explaining what you meant by this nugget of sarcasm:

One more win and we will be trending upward

Mostly, it was meant to be read in conjunction with the very next few words regarding a 20 second video, which is why I put that next.

Actually I do think that Tombert is that stupid and has a big enough ego that it goes down that way.

Then we have stupid owners and it doesnt makes sense DL would stay on. Why not just retire so the franchise can move forward toward a 4 -3 scheme?

It may be true. But why would DL stick around for 8 years of that when he could, easily, go work for a smarter, more competent HC and actually enjoy his last few years of work.
