isn't the original poster the same guy who posted this same thread at halftime of the playoff game against the bungles the year the Steelers took out Seattle for the SB victory

Its not really his fault, first off he does not assemble talent the general manager does. Also he does not call the plays, haley is probably the biggest on field problem not tomlin...

I hope you are being factious. Tomlin has a lot of pull on draft picks and FAs. There isn't one player on this team that he doesn't want.

Somebody said they'd rather have either of the Harbaugh's than Tomlin. Interesting take on 'ol Jim Harbaugh and his team over at MMQB:

When Harbaugh spoke with Anquan Boldin on the bench after his personal foul penalty, the coach appeared dumbfounded and speechless. Later in the fourth quarter, when the broadcast showed Harbaugh on the sideline, he looked as if he had no answers for a team that desperately needed him to lead them out of that malaise.

Not really saying anything with this post other than I guess Tomlin isn't the only coach in the NFL who has those moments eh?

Wasn't there rumors of the 49ers trying to dump Harbaugh this offseason. The dude is a nut, and he's losing his locker room. They lose a couple more and there will be a mutiny!

I think there was something about bad blood between him and the GM and then they "suspended" the talks about a contract extension. If they lose against the Eagles (entirely possible) I think his seat is gonna get pretty damned hot.

I'm still not ready to say Tomlin has turned the corner after one great game, and this season better be the shortest of leashes for him. With that said, great job in preparation this week. Like another poster mentioned, I actually saw some fire from him on the sideline. It's about freakin' time! And it looked like (for maybe the first time ever) they actually made some halftime adjustments and came out and played better. Great job all around this week, and that includes Tomlin.

For me it is win at least one playoff game, as I think this team is undisciplined. Just a wait and see for me still............

Lots and lots and lots of people have said that. Common sense I'd say.

Well now with a name like idioteque .....

But seriously, I posted the above for a little perspective. Seems that "dumbfounded" "lost" etc. looks are not just Tomlin's purview. And there are some similarities between the two. 1) First time NFL Head Coaches with little or no (Harbaugh) Coordinator experience. 2) Took over talented teams drafted during the reign of their predecessors. For Harbaugh the Nolan/Singletary drafts of course provided a majority of the talent that he took to Super Bowl XLVII at the end of the 2012 season. 3) Took their teams to the Super Bowl in the second year that they were HC.

Just interesting to see that you're seeing some of the same complaints about someone that you claim it would be common sense to prefer over Tomlin. Myself, I don't see it as I think the writer is spot on and that Harbaugh is angling for the "Missedagain" job after they fire Hoke. And I'm definitely not sure that Harbaugh is a better coach than Tomlin. Harbaugh just took over a roster that was extremely talented; having been built with premium draft picks accrued during years and years of losing.

*Also, I guess 49er fans should be up in arms about Harbaugh's second draft class because there's only 1 member of that 2012 draft left on their team (third round pick). Just another similarity.

The point is, threads like this are completely reactionary and stupid. It's like clockwork, lose a game, have a bad showing and "the Fire the Head Coach" threads pop up. Since the beginning of time... It just surprises me we're not immune to it, given our three-head-coaches-over-decades track record. People just need a culprit, someone to vent at after a loss. Of course the same folks with the pitchforks never come around and give credit where credit is due after a huge win like Sunday.

I will restate what I already said. I think Tomlin needs to go if he cant coach this team into the playoffs this year. I think this game has proven that our team does have capable players that just needed direction and this week Mr Tomlin provided it and had them prepared, I want to see them do this consistently under Mr Tomlins leadership before I forgive all the mediocrity Mr Tomlin has engineered in the past 2 years.

A lot of decisions are made on a reactionary stance. Living with the consequences of those decisions, well that could be the hard part. Getting someone better is a crap shoot as with getting someone worse. The last couple of seasons have been hard to swallow. It's that we as fans, are spoiled with winning ways. We are the MOST winningest franchise, since the merger, in the NFL. Lose a season or two and whaooLa, here we are. Their are 31 other teams, wanting our spot. The point is, Tomlin has the ability, this team has the ability, the players / coaches need the want. The NFL is always a learning platform, with any young inexperienced coach, there is a learning curve. Tomlin is now past the "new comer" status. He needs to perform NOW and graded on NOW performance. I'm in the stance of wait and see, his draft picks of late do look promising. Injury is a fact of football and needs to be accounted for as to the depth of this team. Time will tell.

Salute the nation

I still think Tomlin sucks.

So far, so do I. Steelers come out and play ONE game the way theyre capable of and all of a sudden the nuthuggers of this board want everyone to worship at the altar of Tomlin; I want to see this effort and performance on a regular basis before I say "gee golly gosh, Mike Tomlin really has this team running at high level!"

And the other half wait for a bad game to jump all over his **** and try to run him out of town. How is that any better?

And just to point out, we've played THREE whole games this year, and we won TWO of them. Isn't that an improvement on last years start already? Or do we have to go 16-0 for the fire Tomlin threads to die down a little bit?

You guys wanted to see adjustments, we saw adjustments, and we saw the result. It's just not good enough for some people as they will still only focus on the negative things.

Insaniti,

The bad coaching and mediocre play has been going on for 2 years. The jury is still out on this year.

You mean you're not convinced of Tomlin's and our greatness from that one game? Fake fans everywhere, man.

Next you'll be telling me you think Marcus Gilbert is inconsistent.

I stll think a lot of this teams problems stem from Tomlin being chummy with his players. To me, the best coaches are guys like Parcells, Noll, Jimmie Johnson, Lombardi... When you played for those guys, you knew you were on a short leash... Play the way I want or find the door... The constant mistakes this team makes only strengthens my belief that these guys see Tomlin more as a fellow teammate than a head coach.
Hey, it's not like Tomlin kisses them on their sweaty bald heads as they come off the field. That would just be weird.

DBS,

The jury is still out for this year, but Tomlin haters are already discounting anything about this year because in their minds this one game is an anomaly and couldn't possibly be from any adjustments that the coaching staff has made. It was pure luck that Gilbert had his best game this year, that the defense blitzed more and played less soft coverage, or that we improved in anyway shape or form from the Thursday night game.

The arguments always the same, he was successful because of Cowhers players, and he sucks at player evaluations, and clock management, etc. You're not allowed to bring up any injuries to soften the blow on the last two seasons, it's strictly that Tomlin sucks a big fat donkey dick.

There was progress made last year in the second half of the year, that's completely dismissed. We won our first game, and Cleveland has shown that it's not pushover these first three weeks, but it's still the same old tired excuses. We played Baltimore on a short week, couldn't make a ton of adjustments, but some were made. We didn't play all that sharp, but our mistakes doomed us more than anything Baltimore did. So we get some extra days to put the rest of the adjustments in and play a complete game, but it's still only the negative that's focused on.

This team is better than most on the board give them credit for. And if you show ANY toleration for Tomlin you are labeled a nut hugger, I get the critical nature of the board. I understand there are things the people don't agree on. But at some point, you have to sit back and look at things a little bit different, instead of drudging up the same arguments over and over again. And when there is proof that improvement was made, don't dismiss it immediately. NO team in the NFL is perfect, even the "great" Seahawks have major flaws, coaching and player issues. It's the nature of the business.

Have we not seen all of those magical one-game adjustments many times? Sudden bursts of good play followed by a 13-6 type loss to some team like the Raiders? With the same issues cropping up in perpetuity? Am I really to assume that Marcus Gilbert is suddenly a fine OT, that his first 3+ years didn't count, but Sunday night told The Story? I don't see why waiting for more than one game is hater-ific, but assuming Tomlin's not a bumblefuck because we won a game is reasonable.

Well, I do know why, but still.

I didn't realize that only hard nosed, spit flinging coaches won SB's.

Pete Carroll would like a word with you.

My final judgment on tomlin is at the end of the season, not after the ravens clusterfuck nor after the brilliant game against the Panthers
