Todays story isn't about a slap on the back or recognition of good deeds, it's about doing what's RIGHT.

It's never the wrong time, to do the right thing

UPDATE: Back story: Growing up in the 60's, my dad would have an occasional Barn Dance at our place. He always used this Band (Ray's ????) as they were cheap, but pretty good. FAST FORWARD to about 10 years ago. I am a self employed Plumbing and HVAC contractor. A friend of mine (JOE) called on a Saturday and asked if he could get a few parts but also ask my plumbing to advise on a trailer house of his brother's. I said you bet, come on out. Joe explained that it was his brother Ray's (band guy) house and he had been without WATER for about a year and half. Their other brother lived about 200ft away and they been sharing that house's bath. Ray was getting very old and couldn't get around, so JOE wanted to get a bathroom up and running. I explained his questions in a full courteous, easy way of repairs. We also put a couple handful of parts together that initially he would need (NO COST).
....JOE made a couple small repairs over the course of the next month (I called him a few times to see how it was going), but hadn't gotten the water tuned on yet. About two months later, still no success (Not Joe's fault as he is busy too), JOE insisted that he was making headway.
.... About 3 month's later, still no water, I called JOE out of the blue and said my company is coming tomorrow to tear apart and re-install what ever it takes to get water to full bath and kitchen sink. Waterlines would be installed above floor (so not to freeze) and we'd try to make it look as good as possible (existing trailer house was already in very bad shape, but I don't judge. JOE also warned me about SERIOUS odor). JOE said there was no way they could pay me for that and my reply was "I didn't ask for money". I told Joe there is no charge for complete parts and labor except for one thing, I just needed a thank you in the end.
..... Obviously I paid my employee full wages and all cost of materials out of my pocket. One thing I did do was to tell my employee he was getting paid a full 9 hr. day, but if we did a good job (because I don't cut corners regardless of circumstances) and got done sooner, he would still get full day pay. This drove him to be more focused as when employees hear Of volunteering things, they think it's just a walk in the park even though they are getting paid.
.... We worked hard and did get done easily in about 7hrs. Tested everything out and all worked good. This made Ray's life so much better and they were very thankful. Ray hadn't played his guitar in years, but he managed a short "thank you" tune. He was very old and did talk a little about the barn dances.

BOTTOM LINE: Over the years and recently as well, my resume is full of things such as this. The good deeds don't have to be monumental or cost anything (I can't afford a lot of costs), But I can return a shopping cart or hold a door, stop to help with a flat tire or many other things. so PLEASE keep this in the back of your mind............
IT'S NEVER THE WRONG TIME TO DO THE RIGHT THING.!!!

Thank You for reading my story !!!

Good Luck in the pick-ems contest and may the good deed force be with you !!!!

PS Thank You to all my Canadian Friends, but peyote doesn't do so well in that northern region. Fuji Mariner seems to require all my spare I can Air Drop.

I like your stories and thanks for sharing - you're a good human being. I've always figured if a person has a certain gift or skill to give back to humanity, they should do it free of charge if possible. I'm the neighborhood car mechanic, computer guy. Learned on my own years ago. Shopping carts, doors and the like should be done by everyone - no excuses.

Back to football - I'll sit this one out. What you and Ron posted looks good to me. (y)

I’ll take for my 3 winners

Lions
Washington
Colts

Straight up
Chargers.

Yes......you must have a Steelers sticker on at least.

Difference of 14 yards.

Concrete bags. I am assuming you mean concrete for the posts. 44 bags.

You could have sent me the DIC company credit card and I could have towed my mixer to your farm and poured it.
Virtually of course 🤑

Good story Drink. The world is a much better place when you help people out with no expectations. My one thing I try not to overlook is when someone is broken down in a car or truck. I’ve been there before and it sucks. Cheers.

Thank Steelmann, for all your great post(s) along the way.

I do have an electric 2-3 bagger cement mixer and a generator, so that was easy, but you’ll see the enormity of the situation upon winner announcement.

Also, when I stop for road traffic help, I stop about a 100ft before them and turn my flasher on. I also use that distance to judge if they seem safe, as in a danger to me as you never know what kind of people you are helping. I’ll put out my next story that happens to be about this nature of safety.

“Help yourself while helping others”

Again, thanks for all your great input throughout the board.

I’ve got a gas powered cement mixer,it’s a beast. When I was a lot younger I used to labor for 2-4 masons and mix by hand with a hoe and mud box. It was a little depressing when a dump truck would dump 15 yards of sand and a couple pallets of cement and I would realize I’d have to mix all that shovel by shovel……of course back then I never had an ounce of fat either 🫣
Even today I’ll mix by hand a lot of the time. I can do it way faster and it’s much cleaner. But definitely harder on the body.
I based my guess on 2 bags a hole. But maybe you go deeper for your frost.
