Why is Matt Canada employed?

Here’s the type of play calling we need. (1st 60 yarder to Waddle)

Phins backed up on the goal line and look at that formation. Us being Steelers fans and have been subjected to piss poor coaching for 15+ years assume 5 wide. Wrong this 22 personal. 2 running backs and 1 TE with 2 receivers. That forced Baltimore to bring in running personnel and then get spread out. This is something beyond Tomlin or Canada’s comprehension.

i suspect it's play design. You have lethal weapons out there. And still we see the opponent's D bustin off some major league disrespect.

The thing you didn't mention is design to the player's talents. That's what is missing in the O. instead it's the jet sweep to keep the back end pursuit honest and spread the D horizontally - only that doesn't work when the D is clearly not afraid of your speed to turn the corner outside. That's why they line up 10 in the box, tight to the box as well. Claypool around the end just don't scare them.

i would like seam routes. An inside hitch, a skinny post for Claypool. That way the safeties cannot just jump the muthaf*ckin outside and deep routes - they have to worry about being roasted deep down the middle by Claypool and his catching radius. Throw in Muth as well - he's a big target and he's quick. THAT way, the corner's really have to back the F off cause they don't always have help over the top.
Another problem is that it seems like every pass, the receiver is facing the QB when making the catch. Turning to run takes more time and doesn't really allow the receiver forward momentum. So many things about the Steelers offense makes no sense. My high school alma mater knows better.

Remember when we used to run slants and drags routes Sarge? Not like I’m suggesting a skinny post to the center of the field or something haha, slants and drags are still conservative routes

You know the type of routes where WRs can utilize speed and RAC ability, their alleged strengths

Seem enough of the damn curls and come back routes already

that's nuclear science to our coaches

Yep, face the QB barely running or standing there and you get nailed on the spot. Or at best, a small gain after the catch.

Here's Mitch's week 3 pass chart. Only 4 passes over the middle and 2 of them were the ones to Freiermuth on the last drive, so Canada again virtually ignores the middle of the field.

And people still keep jumping on Trubisky. Heck, I want to see Pickett as much as anyone but Trubisky looked pretty good in the 1st half when they were mixing things up and getting in a rhythm. Then, we went to halftime and Canaduh lost his keys. We were actually moving the ball in our 1st drive until the drive-killing penalty on Warren's big catch. Then we went run up the middle and 3 and out three times in a row while our D gave up the decisive 10 points. Trubisky did miss some throws but for the 3rd game in a row, Canaduh was our biggest obstacle.

An impressive wide receiver group with Dionte Johnson, Chase Claypool and George Pickens.
A great young tight end with Freiermuth
A stud 2nd year runningback in Najee Harris.
The Steelers have a lot of skill position weapons. This offense should be a sports car.

So Matt Canada takes it out for a spin ...

Throwing outs and what not also leaves very little room for the WR to utilize RAC, LBs can crowd the line, safeties / DBs can just shade left /right, etc etc. I was trying to watch and see if there were even routes to the middle and I did not see many. The whole offensive concept is just garbage.

So, you are saying your attention span is beyond just 3 yards............................. I with yaz!

Tomlin should FIRE Matt Canada first thing tomorrow!

Didn't happen yesterday, hasn't happened today, won't be a part of tomorrow either, sorry.

I'm not impressed by our wide receiver group except for Pickens; Freiermuth appears solid; from all the production we've seen, Najee is no stud. But the only reason I can see Matt Canada is still employed is the desire for a higher draft pick - no other reason comes close.

Someone needs to devise and oversee the offense. Fire Canada mid season and that creates a lot of delegation and possibly work for Tomlin. They’re not going to implement a new offense mid season, so Tomlin will keep Canada and then make him a scapegoat at seasons end. That’s my guess.

They will take it back to the lab.

Again.
I believe the lab is in Wuhan at this point and the results we see indicate there needs to be mandatory shots administered.

We keep blaming Canada for this mess we're in but maybe it goes deeper. The last three coordinators have all been the same with the same results. Maybe someone else is calling the plays. Just saying.

He may not be calling the plays, but it is painfully obvious that this offensive scheme is one that he believes in.

That running to the crowded side **** further shows how infantile the offensive scheme is.

GREAT post slash and thanks for all the good ones along the way.

I read further down that tweet and there is a lot of good tweets that make a lot of good sense. Tri Essex has OL knowledge, and he is saying what a lot of us here are saying. It should be taken with weight knowing what he knows and saying it public.

Exactly. They won't can Canada but their refusal to do so is going to handcuff the offense all season long.
