Why is Matt Canada employed?

Canada has not been able to see the scheme of other defenses. How many first quarters have we gone with three four first downs if that. last year was the same but everyone blamed Ben. Look Sunday when Kenny was let go when we need to move ball just as Ben last year. Canada cannot see the field and make adjustment. Tomlin should be able to see this as well.

Agree and take note: If your scheme isn't moving forward and adapting to your surroundings then that scheme is going backwards to what the overall goal is.

O'Canada is not winning games on his OC / play calling strengths but rather losing them on no adaptability to his surroundings.

GREAT post slash and thanks for all the good ones along the way.

I read further down that tweet and there is a lot of good tweets that make a lot of good sense. Tri Essex has OL knowledge, and he is saying what a lot of us here are saying. It should be taken with weight knowing what he knows and saying it public.

I read down the Tweet comments on both of those too, and it's painfully obvious to everyone except the top brass of the Steelers.

Also, I know that not every HC holds and looks at the playsheet, but it seems most do. And there looks to be way more than 10 plays on them. (Referring to Dan Orlovsky saying the Steelers don't have more than 10 plays).

Tomlin in his presser so much as said no changes to OC. Looks like Canada stays for now!

We keep blaming Canada for this mess we're in but maybe it goes deeper. The last three coordinators have all been the same with the same results. Maybe someone else is calling the plays. Just saying.
No way Tomlin cares what we run on offense, he doesn't have the balls or knowledge to go tell the dumbass OC to fix it.

NO surprise here, O'Canada isn't leaving till end of season.

Coach Tomlin stated in post game interview when aske obout the offense......... "I do believe we are finding our Identity"

Oh, they're finding it alright. Everyone including the media are tiptoeing around suck factor. 16 points for the opposing team nowadays generally nets a loss for them.

Looks like we're 31st in offensive points at 15.3. 31st

We likely have more than 10 WR sweep plays.

That can't be right...that has receivers running to the middle of the field.
incorrect. they stop at the hash mark and can go no further without spinning a wheel.

My prediction is if we don't beat the Eagles the Steelers uncharacteristically make a change. My guess is they don't fire Canada but they do take away his play calling. My guess is Eddie Faulkner or Brian Flores takes over for play calling duty if Tomlin doesn't do it himself.

Would love to see Mikey take over play calling duties, would put himself in a position to be accountable tho..,so it will never happen. Gotta have a scapegoat in place to take the heat.

if its anyone it will be sullivan
Don't think that is the direction MT would go. It is a prediction. A guess. A shot in the dark. My guess is if MT doesn't take over himself he picks Faulkner as he's been with MT for 3+ this stint as well as a short stint in 2012. Or he goes Flores as he believes it would help him in getting his next HC position.

It is a guess. But I think this week has a lot of ramifications to the coaching staff.

The problem is that the scheme works perhaps 3 out of 10 times per drive while also requiring - on average - a 38 completed pass, 5-run effort on ~ 11:23 of clock.

Obviously we dont have the personnel for that. In fact, that is the exact opposite of the Steelers' personnel strength on offense.

Sullivan is only coach that has been an NFL offensive coordinator. Every thing else is an experiment.

So? Does that mean he automatically gets the job?

I am not saying he won't or can't. I just feel MT goes a different direction. Who knows.
The only time Shades went in a different direction was when he didn’t do the hiring (Todd Haley). His other OC’s were all the existing QB coach. Arians had been the WR coach but I’m not sure if he got moved to QB coach first.

That is after the season when they are hiring. This is interim during a lost season. Maybe putting someone in to test their abilities to see if they can be the next guy would make sense. Shades also likes to hire from within. Fichtner replaced Haley, then Canada was on staff to replace Fichtner. I think he would go with someone he would trust and give them a shot. Sullivan could be that guy. I just don't feel it is the direction MT would go.
