Why is Matt Canada employed?

I too am a little concerned on how little it would take for Coach Tomlin to decide and keep the "over-rated" Matt Canada on staff.

Yesterday's victory showed multiple parts of Matt's offensive scheme is JUST BAD as ever. the 20 points scored is very minimal but just enough to beat a very bad / injured / Saints team. We ran big but against a very suspect defensive front.

Our remaining schedule is very manageable and quite possibly able to get that NON-losing season. Should we string a few wins along the way will it be seen as O'Canada brilliancy, or will he be called out for what he really is?

Time will tell and time will get players better, including the Pickett fighting kid.

We had a good first half and then Canaduh's play-calling crapped the bed in the 2nd half. Throwing behind the line on 1st for no gain and another jet sweep stuffed by 2 guys were just 2 that set us up for quick 3 and outs to start the 2nd half. The OL sucked too in the 2nd half.

It’s mind-boggling that the Rooneys can’t at least give the fans a holiday gift and make Tomlin fire him. There is literally no good reason to keep him on staff. He’s hurting Pickett’s confidence and the morale of the team.

At this point-I’m riding out Canada either till week 14 or just let him fade away and not bring him back. Today he had shown some descent playcalling in the first half then he just regressed as the game went on. I liked what I saw from Pickett today (second half was eh). He looked like he grew some and I’ll take that as a stride in progress. The next oc needs to bring more out in him next year

Part of the problem is the team can't ride the run and D to help Pickett enough consistently. To give Pickett his fair share of blame he isn't proficient enough yet to overcome both of those deficiencies.

Canada continues his pattern since he has been with the team and that is constantly inconsistent.

Hopefully Art Jr or Weidl step in and replace him with or without Tomlin’s opinion or say. Hopefully they do bring in someone who can bring the best in Pickett out and bring a supportive offensive staff to help the trenches and the run game

To me the game was lost when Watt intercepted and they got FG. That was classic Canada **** call and KP probably not ready for the stage.

I’ve been playing around with who they would get… the Obvious move is just promoting Mike Sullivan… but they could bring in Mark Whipple, who has a tight relationship with Pickett, as OC, QB coach or offensive assistant… some ex Steelers like Duce Staley are definitely supposed to be on some short lists.. and they could always retread a guy like whisenhunt…
They could tap an old QB as well… ben wouldn’t be interested but maybe Charlie Batch or even float the idea to Peyton Manning and see if he wants to try his hand… lol he probably has more actual playcalling experience than anyone else

Part of the solution would be to invest in the Oline. Improve the talent on that left side. Yeah have a competent NFL OC. A better DC. A better ILber. A stud LT and CB is highly needed.

Once again, 44 drop back for Pickett versus just 20 carries for Harris. The Steelers needed to do a better job getting Harris heavily involved and to supplement the ground game with Warren/Snell.

Tomlin has to learn that next man up doesn’t work with a rookie qb stepping in for a HOF one… adjust and adapt…

And there is again this recurring nugget.

After giving up 212 total yards in the first half, Pratt and his teammates held the Steelers offense to just 139 yards in the second half. Many of those occurred after the Bengals took a double-digit lead with less than five minutes left.

"Just settling down," Pratt told CBS Sports when asked about the difference between halves. "It was us giving them plays. We knew what they were going to do. They like to do the same plays over and over."

t isn't the first time I have read this. It won't be the last. Predictability, this team is very. On offense the HC and OC is doing nobody any favors by being predictable and running the same **** over and over and over again.

One of the biggest complaints I have had for a long time is lack of adjusting. It was already mentioned in debate yesterday. Then a Bengal player comes out and yet again confirms it.

I am sorry but it is time for some coaching changes, it has been time. Please no more insanity with doing the same crap over and over again and expecting different results.

Prime example of not putting the players into the best position to succeed.

I just saw that quote, Slash. It makes sense. I was at the game and commenting on the second half how it looked like the defense knew when we were going to run the ball because hey attacked. The receivers were pretty well covered as well. The offense already limits itself scheme wise, but being predictable on top of things makes it even tougher. It also explains how the offense, both rushing and passing, looked bad in the second half.

And how naturally Kenny won't be as accurate if the options are limited due to sounder coverage on repetitive predictable.

I get annoyed during the game, but at the end of the day it's ok. They were competitive and fought hard but lost. This team isn't going to win a championship if they sneak into the playoffs somehow. They gotta get some higher draft picks and try to improve the roster. it's just that simple. So playing hard and losing I guess I can accept for a year.

They weren't competitive when it counted the most. Higher draft picks will not fix what handicaps this team. It will only help squeeze out possibly a few more wins. Case in example Watt is back yet they still scored over 30. Even with Kaz back too. There is not enough draft picks to mask what team philosophy fails are present.

If you think outcomes will change without coaching changes I have some bad news for you.

Choo Choo it won't.

Watt isn't anywhere near 100%. Maybe not even 80%. You can see it in his play. He's not nearly as aggressive nor is he getting the push he normally gets. Sure, he'll still make a splash here and there, but we're not getting what he is capable of. Even playing like he is, he is a better option than his back up. That guy stinks.

There are two reasons to show the OC in the booth. 1. He is a puppet master and looks like a genius. The other is if he sucks. Matt is getting a lot of face time.

Matt O'Canada is in the booth beause he ALLIANATES everybody around him. You an see it in the players that they know he is a ****-ing idiot.

And where did I advance the idea that it would? I am fully aware of the limits of the coaching staff. I also believe every team has to overcome their coaching on occasion. Chuck Noll, even though he was called The Pope, wasn't infallible. Great talent overcomes coaching when necessary. The Steelers need more talent at certain positions. They also need better coaching. They are not mutually exclusive.

This sums it up nicely.
