The Pittsburgh Steelers escaped Monday Night Football with Ben Roethlisberger’s 50th career game-winning drive. This week, the Steelers come in as favorites over the Detroit Lions. With the schedule only getting that much tougher, the Steelers will need every win they can get the whole way out.

It’s hard to believe that this squad sat at 1-3 and now has a chance in the coming weeks to take control of the AFC North. Despite a four-game winning streak to bring them to 5-3, the Steelers have many inconsistencies that need to be addressed—with little time to do so. This is an offensive line that is learning on the job and a defense that is looking for big plays.

Last week in Yay or Nay, we were 3-2. Without further delay…

Diontae Johnson reels in over 130 yards

Diontae Johnson

Diontae Johnson has quietly become one of the most consistent receivers in the league in 2021. He is on career-high paces and has improved his hand reliability. With Chase Claypool potentially out, he may see a lot more attention. Will he be able to shake loose of coverage?

Steelers commit 0 turnovers

The Steelers only had one turnover—a special teams fumble for a touchdown that let the Chicago Bears back in the game. These can’t happen, to say the least. However, the forecast for Sunday could create some slippery handling of the ball.

Defense forces 3+ turnovers

The last time Jared Goff came into town, the Steelers’ defense feasted—forcing four total turnovers. This is a team much worse than the LA Rams that were defending NFC Champions. Could we see some replications and get the big plays going for the defense?

Alex Highsmith records 2+ sacks

He has been consistent in winning against run and pass blocks. He just hasn’t quite got home to the QB as consistently. Alex Highsmith is showing that upside the Steelers saw when they drafted him. Can he get his breakout season going?

Lions rush for over 100 yards

If there is one weapon Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin highlighted on the Lions’ offense, it was DeAndre Swift. I remember him all too well as he ran away from my Tigers’ defense to seal UGA’s SEC Championship… but I digress. The Steelers got shredded last week. Will they control the Lions running back group?
