Artie Burns officially a bust

It's his sophomore year. Hopefully, he gets this **** out of his system. The disturbing part to him is he keeps making the same mistakes in every game. If he doesn't figure that **** out and quick, he won't be getting another contract here.

Lol, I’d like to agree, but Tomlin would keep him just for the sake of keeping one of his boys. We all know this, otherwise Touissant and Golden would’ve been long gone by now.

The next time he raises his hand to defend a ball in flight towards a receiver will be the first time......................

I thought the hands to the face penalty against Artie in the 1st qt was huge. We are off the field there with a 4th and 12 and the very next play is a TD. Seemed a little ticky tacky when watching replay. He definetly needs to clean up his game, but not willing to lable him a bust just yet.

Artie's problem is that he is a bit full of himself. He believes the hype. He practices against the best WR in the game, so "he can beat anyone". He needs to take Mean Joe's advice and cut the BS.

He is NOT A BUST, but he does need to improve his craft. Concentrate on the basics. Tackle better.

It not just Artie. The defense as a whole needs to tighten up. Especially if they're going to compete against a team like New England. That team will shred the steelers apart. So something needs to be done now before they meet each other in the playoffs.

i was wondering abouit that last night when GB running back ripped us for 40+ yards

Collinsworth said we were in a two deep man. IDK if this is common. But i thought maybe it wasnt. And we didnt play it right and got gouged.

Is this more common than i know? Maybe Steelers are trying things and working on things and mixing them in. ??

It certainly doesn't help that the pass rush has seemed to slack off recently. He may not be a full-time player anymore, but you have to wonder if Harrison could still contribute in pass rushing situations.

Burns can't tackle. At one point I thought he actually tried to tackle a player on his own team. I fully understand though, he must be really upset that the U lost their chains and got their ***** whipped all over the field.

I've never seen players celebrate so much after giving up a first down as some of the Steelers do.

I bet Mel Blount would still be better then Burns

I believe you'll see James get some reps very soon. December is around the corner. They've saved him for this time.

I don't know if I would label him a bust, but it would appear that they mental aspect of his position is currently more than he can bear.

Agreed with this. If the team had a decent replacement for him they would probably sit him for a while. Just like they did with Ike Taylor.

Im not seeing a hell of a lot of man coverage out there. Most of the time he looks like he is holding a zone and bites up on something.

I would think a two deep man would be a basic common defense. You have your corners play man with safety protection. It should allow the corners to be more a bit more aggressive.

think they are saving Harrison for a playoff run? maybe they afraid Watt will hit a rookie wall.
You are going to be waiting a long time barring an injury. He isnt gonna play. Watt, Dupree, and Chickillo can all cover. Moats plays specials. They are not dressing 5 OLBs.

Burns just said in an interview that he's had issues the last 3 games. Dude needs to watch some film. He's been burned 5 or 6 games in a row now. Either way, he needs to correct it and correct it now. Also good to hear Haden is off crutches.

Nope and like I posted earlier, Burns played a ton of Man in college, the more he has to think the worse he plays, try like Baltimore does with Jimmy Smith, he plays man coverage alot.

Remember when Ike Taylor suffered a similar slump early in his career? Both guys really had limited experience at the position but the physical talent -- hopefully its just the learning curve.

That's a good point. There was also that Bustamalu guy.

He's got to continue to grow and have short term memory loss on those Burnt plays. Better to give up shallow catches then get Burnt deep

It took long enough for all to see his weaknesses, to bad Tomlin can't see it from the side lines. He can't tackle worth beans and he gets totally lost way more than not in coverage. Burns believes, when you see his actions on the field and especially on the sidelines that he is good and makes a difference. The difference he makes is not good. The other night he made one good tackle and gets up celebrates as if he changed the game, his other tackle because off poor technique and not aggressive the player leaned for a first down. Would be nice to see Tomlin get his face when he comes off the field after giving up big plays or seeing the secondary coach trying to coach him up but you never see on TV either of these things, only thing you see is his smiling on sidelines as if he is one of the stars.

When Randall Cobb scored on a 39-yard touchdown pass after he time-warped himself into the open, Mike Tomlin met his exiting defensive unit on the field. Mike couldn’t wait for them to get to the sidelines, so he went to them. Don’t know what was said but I don’t imagine it was enjoyable. Artie Burns, playing the deep thirdm carried a WR too far inside and didn’t see Cobb running an out and up. It was a life lesson played out in real time in one of the most unforgiving positions on the field.

Just because it isnt shown on tv dont mean it didnt happen

I won't go so far as to label him a bust, but he is not performing at the line right now. As has been said above, hopefully it is a learning curve. I sure would hate to have to start over in the CB department, AGAIN.
