Let the comparison begin. We finally got a chance to look at both rookie ILB. One looked lost and the other looked like a veteran. It's obviously the 2nd real game for both but for all the knocks against Mosley he sure looked good to me. It definitely will be interesting to see both develop. But I guess we found out last night speed isn't everything.

One appeared to have a much better supporting cast also. Top to bottom. Put Mosley in our defense and put Shazier in theirs and watch the see saw balance the other way.

Heck, having Ngata clearing out space in front of you does wonders to make you look like a veteran.

Mosley really only had one splash play but other than that wasn't spectacular. Bell had over 5 yards per carry many times running Mosely's way. Ravens 1st game Mosely was ok but not great. Through 2 games Shazier leads Mosely in tackles.

Mosley graded poorly last night FWIW. I will be stunned if we regret that decision; I think Shazier is overwhelmingly superior and doesn't have a major injury history.

Bell had one long run where he was bottled up and made a great individual play, other than that he was eh in the running game.

Right, everybody knows you grade linebacker play by the number of tackles they make.

Mosely would have been a better fit with Timmons as a more physical, steady and cerebral player. Instead the Shazier Timmons pairing is too much finesse and an inability to fight off blockers. Both Timmons and Shazier are good players but not a great match.

I agree with this. I like Shazier but both he and Timmons are buck ILBs.

I did like the hit Timmons put on Flacco right after coming back from that injury on the goal line. Flacco couldn't get off the field fast enough and he as a foot from getting into the end zone. Wish he would have broke him in half.

C.J. Mosley, ILB, -1.4

Breakdown: An up-and-down night for Mosley just as it was for fellow first round pick Shazier on the other sideline. A pair of stops and his forced fumble on Heath Miller tempered by a pair of missed tackles and being pulled around in coverage at times by Ben Roethlisberger.

Ryan Shazier, LB, +0.4

Breakdown: An up-and-down night for the Steelers’ first-round pick who struggled in coverage but looked very good against the run. Particularly in the first half Shazier made a number of plays coming downhill to the runner either unblocked or particularly stifling the blockers (fullback and linemen alike) at the point of attack to disrupt and stop the runner.

Signature Stat: Rushed the passer four times registering the first two hurries of his career.

Well crap ... that write up doesn't describe a finesse linebacker ... they must have been looking at someone other than Shazier.

Way too early to say much on either player, but neither had a spectacular game on Thursday.
