There are studies that have shown positive effects and studies that haven't. The VA study that everyone is screaming about was in very severely ill patients...as a last resort for people who were going to die anyway. Then they all start screaming "The hydroxychloroquine killed them!" The reality is the drug is still being used off label by many doctors in covid patients all over the world. Yeah, there's no real proof it works as a prophylactic but there's also very, very little risk of harm from it. Every drug on earth has adverse effects in some people at some doses.This one has been used for decades and the safety data is overwhelming.
