Ray Rice plea deal

So I guess it boils down to this.... Have sex with a woman in a bathroom... 6 game suspension, later reduced to 4. Beat the **** out if a woman in an elavator rendering her unconsious.... 2 game suspension. Seems fair to me...

I was about to make that exact same point. Goodall, when he has a say in the punishment, is an arbitrary *******.

Arbitrary or not, godel is an @sshole. Just making sure we on the same page... !!!

\
You can add the 49er's .. has there been any discussion about their QB after his escapade ..

Excellent point, no equality here!

Salute the nation

Winston vs Ben coverage is a matter of perception. We are Steelers fans so of course it seems like Ben recieved more. Winston got a lot of coverage too.

Yea it did, because I had forgotten about the rape incident. That was the impact it made. Oh yeah, it was more than Ben. Bullshit.

To this point, Ray Rice has gotten off easy. Part of that is it is just Ray Rice. He is a good player, but he really isn't that big of a deal. Let's see if there is an extended outrage over his lack of suspension. If there is, sooner or later someone will postulate something like, "this really isn't about what he did, this is about the color of his skin."

I find it hard to believe people are still don't see this with the President that we have. It is in our face everyday. I don't agree with the President on healthcare, I don't want minorities to get care, hence I am a racist. I disagree with him on gun issues, it is not that I have belief in the 2nd Amendment, I am just a bitter white guy holding onto my guns and God. I could go on and on. Yet, we are seeing real, absolute racism going on right now, and nobody will call it what it is. The outrage against Israel for what is going on is pure anti-Semitism.

Black unemployment is the highest it has ever been. Yet, blacks still blindly support this President.

You were that someone who first postulated "this really isn't about what he did, this is about the color of his skin."

I am black.
I do not support the President on all of his issues and agendas.
therefore, I do not fit into your generalizations.
Does this make me not "black"?
If so, am I now a free-agent, free to sign with whatever race I choose?
After much consideration, I've decided .... I'm taking my talents to South Beach where I will join the ever growing Latino population.

Bullshit. There was a headline as soon as that story came out, and it was leading every news source for weeks. The Ben story was watched closely because everyone wanted to scream favoritism if he didn't get a huge suspension. So Goodell was the one who did the raping, and he raped our ******* team, and our qb, in front of the whole ******* nation while we watched. **** that **** and his ginger ******* justice, ************* slimy *** lawyer prick.

Lol calm down Joe I agree Ben got more coverage. Why mostly because I was looking for it. Every article every show I could find. But Winston got a lot of coverage too. It got more then Ray Rice. Especially as he picked up steam as a Heisman canidate. The difference is I didnt care about Winston and just flipped the channel. Where as with Ben i wanted every bit of news I could get.

Would you care to explain the hoopla that surrounded Famous Jameis Winston? Same situation as Ben. Even more media attention than Ben.

I dont recall Obama holding a press conference in his defense. I dont recall Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson holding protests in his name. So, tell me again how race has anything to do with this....

Way more coverage went to Big Ben... heck, there was more attention given to Winston walking out with crab legs...

No. Look at the thread. The issue was brought up before I entered the fray.

I tell you what. I guess I am just tired of it. Just about every time this President gets in trouble, someone, somewhere states it is about race. People who disagree with him do not have legitimate arguments. It is just because he is black. Believe or not, I have been one who has espoused on many occasions in the past that issues, whatever they were, were not about race. Whenever I turn on the news though, I am disabused of that notion. Why is it that some can invoke race with impunity, but I bring up in a football situation and it is taboo?

I am white. I don't support the Republican party on all their issues, either. I am sure, unless you are special, you have made your fair share of generalizations. I bet you see me as some 'ol redneck boy with a Confederate flag on my truck. Well, I have a truck, anyway.

The coverage on Winston was for a couple weeks... the coverage on Ben was months... when they bring up Winston's transgressions, they talk about the shoplifting... when they talk about Big Ben, it is all about the rape allegations. Allegations that the GA D.A. said were unfounded and that he did nothing criminal when he said, "I prosecute crimes, not morals." Of course, the media just skipped over that part of his speech as they continued their assault on Big Ben.

Winston didn't get a guest spot on South Park either.

I live in Ohio on the WV./PA/OH border. I drive a truck. I'm not a democrat, a republican, tea party member or any of the political parties. I vote the issues as I see them and for the politician that I think will screw up the least. Anyone who thinks that race is the main issue driving this country today hasn't been paying attention. The only color most politicians see is green $$$$. Now, if they can get the average American to focus on race as the major issue or to bring race into every political/social/economic discussion, they win because they have taken the focus off of the issues. That's not just something that happened during the Obama years and it's not limited to the Democrats.

In regards to football ... if we are looking to the NFL/NFLPA/NFL players to set the tone for how we think as citizens in regards to race/politics/economics and social morals ... we're just ******. Most of those guys live in as much of a bubble in regards to the outside world as the politicians.

Race? Blah ... as one song my kids listen to says "it's all about the money, money, money"

CNN Headline News - expert panel discusses why NFL:considers smoking weed to be 8 times worse than Beating a Woman Unconscious

heh - taking Roger to the woodshed

What did Harrison get? He was charged too. I get it, I wouldn't be pissed if it was 4 games or even 6. But what have other guys gotten for similar infractions? Comparing it to PED's or alleged rape is apples and oranges.

The whole world saw what kind of a man Ray Rice is. I'm sure in October when the NFL is pimping out the pink breast cancer awareness gear you'll be cheering for Rice after his slap on the wrist. You can bring up Harrison, he wasn't charged but they don't also have that on tape on TMZ and everywhere else on the interweb. Had the NFL thrown the book at Harrison for domestic violence it would have been justified. Now you're grasping at straws. There's no way you allow someone to have a lesser suspension for a domestic violence incident that severely tarnishes the NFL shield then what you have for guys getting popped for supplements. I don't condone supplements and those guys also are deserving of suspensions, but you can't tell me 2 games is justified. No ******* way. And I don't care what jersey Rice wears, if he was a Steeler he should have been suspended for longer than 2 games for that ****.

You all do realize that it would have helped the Ravens more if Rice was suspended longer, right? Boy did he suck last year. The more games that guy is out, the more chance they have of matriculating the ball down the field!

I'm just pissed that he's missing one of our games in the 2 game suspension. We would have slaughtered that tiny turd with our new speedy D!

Yes he was. Charged with assault, charges dropped after counseling and such. Not too different from Rice's pre-trial intervention or whatever. He got no suspension Rice got two games. If anything Rice got a more heavy handed punishment based off the Suggs and Harrison precedent. All 3 should have been suspended longer than 2 games. And yes, people will still continue to wear Rice and Suggs jerseys, I still see Harrison jerseys today.

Charges dropped. Not on camera, not as damaging to the NFL. Stop drinking the purple kool-aid. Here's the video for your review again. http://www.tmz.com/videos/0_c5nk3w3n/

And had the charges stuck to Harrison he should have got more than 2 games.

Ray's charges won't stick either, he's rich. You and I would be locked up for quite a while. So to clarify your point, the fact that there is a video after the fact of Rice's unconscious fiancée means 2 games isn't enough. The fact that there was no video for Suggs and Harrison justifies zero suspension. Do I have that correct?

I hate Goodell and his bullshite.

2 games for beating your wife in public while Josh Gordon gets the hook for the SEASON for a little reefers...insane.

Reefer is legal in a shitload of states...wifebeating is generally frowned upon (except in Maryland and by Goodell) by anyone not a neanderthal.

Everything in this country is a race issue. I don't know that I felt that way until Obama was elected. Now, to disagree with him is not that you have legitimate differences with his policies, but it must be that you are a racist. That is just the way it is right now, to say differently, you are blind.

Who came to Ben Roethlisberger's defense? It has been a while, but I just do not recall anyone really did. Nobody said he was an upstanding guy who made a mistake like they did about Ray Rice. I'm going to say it, I just am tired of giving a **** and walking on eggshells. If Ben was black, that girl doesn't say a thing. No way. It would have turned on her, she would've been the *******. And, I am not calling it reverse racism. It is just the way it is.
You're REALLY diving deep to make your agenda, D...

I'm sorry but this is just so damn funny.

Come on down on the 5th of Oct and we'll discuss over some Balvenie...

Right over your head. The video damages the shield. Just like the Ben "allegations" damaged the shield. I'm not going to justify domestic violence of any kind. At the time we all thought Harrison would be suspended just for the fact he was James Harrison and public enemy #1 on 345 Park Ave. Suggs also should have been suspended.

You're right, Ray's charges won't stick because he had a shotgun wedding, his now wife won't testify against him and yes he has money. That doesn't mean he didn't commit a crime, we all saw what he did. 2 games isn't enough. You can't minimize this issue, there's a video the entire world saw, and oh by the way the NFL goes out of its way to promote Breast Cancer Awareness month. Wonder how that will play out with this incident, among others hanging over the NFL's head.

When was the last time YOU called your boss and told him you were fining him for his behavior?

That's not over yet. Goodell will drop a small hammer on Irsay.

The "Goodell hates the Steelers" stuff is absolute nonsense. That said, Goodell is nothing but an empty suit, a haircut. He looks the part and the lights are on but no one is behind the wheel. In the Rice case, he appears to be so tone-deaf that his punishment created a bigger story than Rice's knockout punch did.
