Problem is, I think we all "hoped" our OL would be better with how they looked at the end of last year and the addition of Jones...nope, we got worse.
We expected the Offense to look better because of how KP looked at the end of last year...nope, got worse.
We expected the Defense to be better because we spend a fortune and added players...nope, got worse.
Regardless of injury, our defensive scheme/playcaller expects too much from our stars and occasionally gets it.
We still cannot stop a good running team that calls runs when we are in a pass "set" and vice-versa.
We definitely cannot stop passes to the TE because we haven't replaced our "Mack/coverage-capable" ILB since Shazier (and he wasn't especially known for being good in coverage in college). They replaced him with Bush (not known for coverage in college either) and guys like Spillane, Schobert, Holcomb, Alexander, Walker etc. We NEED a "Mack" who can cover a TE down the field. We seem to have some "Buck" guys in Roberts/Robinson but it would be nice to have THAT position settled too.
We weren't happy with the SS play of Edmonds after taking him to replace Troy but NOW have our all-star FS (Ed Reed type) Minkah playing essentially as the SS to bolster our sometimes crap-run-support with DaMonte Kazee, the worlds smallest FS alternating between FS and SS at 5'-10", 184#. All this because Keanu Neal went down and wasn't even as good as Edmonds, who was jettisoned and brought back due to poor planning.
Now, we expect Holcomb to recover from what looked like a career injury, to be our "coverage" linebacker? Alexander (torn achilles)? As it stands, we need a real SS so Fitz can go back to FS, and a coverage capable ILB. This, along with an outside CB to replace Wallace (who looked awful playing on the opposite side this year), just to get back to a starting 11 on D.
Maybe Rowe can stick at SS with Thompson as a back-up but we could do better. All I know is "listing" Minkah as the FS and playing him there are distinctly different than what we saw on the field.
Watching our discarded RG become an all-pro instantly in LA determines that our OL coach is "still" hot garbage.
Our punter "still" sucks, but he will have competition...again.
We have issues fellas, most of them have been around for awhile.
