Thanks to a rule change proposed by the steelers, the trade deadline will be pushed from the Tuesday after week 8 to the Tuesday after week 9 in 2024.
This continues the trend to move the deadline later in the season to make it easier for teams to know if they are buyers or sellers at the deadline
Remember, not long ago the NFL deadline was after week 3.... this was far from how other Pro Leagues ran things... both the nba and Nhl start their seasons in October and run to mid april . The NBA had a deadline in February, about 60% of the season... the NHL is a full month later and gets the most action. MLB starts their season in late March. It runs into September, but their deadline is at the end of July... ...
this move just gets tge deadline to 50% of the season... still well behind other leagues
