On the Steelers "no touchdown" the ref said he went out of bounds and didn't reestablish his self b4 catch. If that's so, how did he get both feet in ON THE CATCH if he never reestablished himself? Thomlin should hv challenged

The ref closest to the play did not think he stepped out. The refs are fully against us in this game. They said you can't review it. That is bullshit too. All scoring plays are reviewable.

Will someone explain what "re established" requires if more than standing on the field?

It was pretty clear he stepped out before he caught the ball. I don't understand why it wasn't illegal contact since he was, essentially, pushed out and they were beyond 5 yards. As mentioned in the other thread, looked to be offsides by the defense.

I am just shocked with over 20 cameras at every NFL game we didn't get a better angle on that catch by Wheaton and IMO he did re-establish himself in the field of play before the ball was caught....both his feet were back in the field of play. That was a bad call!

They got screwed...period

We got screwed. he was pushed out by the defender meaning:

Exception: If an eligible receiver is forced out of bounds by a foul of the defender, including illegal contact, defensive holding, or defensive pass interference, he will become eligible to legally touch the pass as soon as he re-establishes himself inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands

I don't think you can reestablish yourself. You step out, you can't be the first person to touch the football. And he did step out.

Could have been flagged as well on the DB. Carolina was also offside on the play.

I think with the contact involved it qualifies as forced out of bounds. He then is standing with both feet in bounds, catches ball and has both feet down. Total bullshit. Of course if we win it doesn't matter. Outstanding play by Ben and Wheaton.

A win is a win, no matter what the officiating is doing. Rise above, play the game, WIN !!!!

The comments above, noting that of course Wheaton had re-established position since he was STANDING IN THE EFFING END ZONE, are 100% correct.

Dumb-*** call by the refs.

if they play like today wallace and moats has to start

It was that reffing crews first National game ever... they were overcalling a lot. typical "look at me I am on TV" ****...

I think I understand the "Wheaton had not re-established position" call. The dumb-*** ref heard that Wheaton was a "magician" with his footwork, and thought he was this guy:

The angle they showed was not conclusive in the slightest showing he stepped out. Now, there should have been an automatic review because it was a TD. The refs blew it by saying he stepped out and therefore it wasn't a scoring play and couldn't be reviewed. They ****** us over again on that play. If he did step out it was damn close and the closest ref that called it a TD did not say he stepped out. It was a ref 30 feet away.

I have this awesome thing called coaches film due to being a sucker and having nfl rewind, I will wait till it comes available for that play, and I should be able to get the definitive answer as to if he even stepped out or not. (There are supposed to be like 10 cameras you can choose from, so I'm thinking a even a schlub like me should be able to fine ONE decent shot of it). I just checked and the "coaches film" is still greyed out, sometimes it takes a day or so for it to show up. I shall post after I see it, I should be able to do a quick screen cap of the pertinent angle as well.

so many ways that the play could have been called by the refs and they chose the only one that hurt the steelers... illegal contact, pushed out of bounds and then reestablished both feet in bounds to catch the ball (which is what happened)... the Panther offside by a yard... It was a horrible call... all there is to it.
