Yeah, I know. Old guy waxing longingly about past glory...but seriously. Jack Lambert would deck these kids making a big show of a first down, if they ever had the nerve to pull that crap on a Chuck Noll team. I remember when Billy White Shoes Johnson started that endzone dance trend. Some announcer asked him something like is there a team in the NFL that if you played for that you wouldn't do that, and he said the Steelers. They asked why, and he said something like "because I'm smart".

I miss that ****. I would like Tomlin to fine every player that pulls that first down gesture, including that crap that Bell does. Hit em with 10K each time. Would be better if Ben or Harrison or Troy jumped in their ****, but that just isn't happening. We have no bad *** leadership on the field.

I know one thing Jack would be ready to play Sunday in Cleveland.. he would not be wanting some opposing teams players jersey. I miss it as well may be old but football was football then where defense meant something.

Jack Lambert was the first thing i though of when Bell did his 1st down in front of the buccaneer players face. The buccaneer guy grabed bell's wrist and flicked it down. I know Lambert would have ripped the wrist off, but i was impressed with the defensive guy. I was thinking, why don't our defense do that? I realize our guys are beat down from the penalties, but **** it, earn them !!!!

I don't have a problem with them getting excited after a big first down or play its just the routine three yard run or catch for a first down that bothers me. That's your job to get those!

The Swann/Stallworth endzone dance may have been one of the early celebrations. I think they both survived.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to obxsteeler again.

WHAT is up with this KARMA Button?
I'm hardly ever able to give it, must spread it around....... JUST CURIOUS

I think its great, because two people can't just fellate each other over and over again with Reputation.

I agree with that, but I do spread it around mega bunches far and wide. Just can't give 2 same poster twice, hardly ever! Believe it or not, some deserve more than 1 helping, without having to ditch some off just to be able to spread around again.

I don't think we have anyone on our roster who would have that intimidation factor that Lambert did.

Worilds? no
Jarvis? no
Timmons? no
Shazier? probably not (seems more of a quiet, lunchpail kinda guy)
Moats? no

I believe this would go back to a few years ago when our D didn't really have an identity either. No one stepped up to be a vocal leader. We have some vets, but their time is nearing an end. Some of the young dudes need to nut up and establish themselves. As much as some of you hated Tyrone Carter, dude would ball out with everything he had and try to spark the team. Now? eh, a pat on the helmet, that stupid jump-chest-bump or slap on the *** and on to the next play.

See, in today's NFL, you can't use intimidation or you might hurt someone's feelings. Therefore, Lambert would be flagged every game and have so many accumulated offenses, playing a game would cost him money.

Cam Heyward has the fiery demeanor that you want, he just needs to channel it a bit better. But attitude, intimidation wise, he's prob the only one right now. Timmons, Troy, Shazier, Worilds... they are all quiet soft spoken guys. Mike Mitchell is still too new, but he could step up as well... we have five years to find out right?

You forgot James Harrison. If that guy wants something done, people listen. Keisel garners respect as well. You have to respect DA BEARD!!

I have no problem with celebrating after TDs and giving a first down gesture on a big play. I have a problem with penalizing exuberance after a score, or spiking a ball on a first down.

Bussie always had the head shake after a first down. Just something that pumps up the players if it's done right.

like I said, Cope, the old guys are nearing their end.
Debo is done after this season. Keisel and most likely Troy, too.

Is this the face of a man who gets intimidated easily?

That's what we have here, let them have some fun, don't take away their individuality and defiantly don't hurt their feelings. How bout, they are professionals getting paid a lot of money to do a job...act like it. Big deal, you got a first down or even a touchdown, act like you actually have done it before and will do it again, not like a 12 year old geek after his first coped feel.

It wasn't so long ago that we had it.

And yes, I will post this video in any pertinent thread until we get through these rebuilding years.

Jack Lambert played in a different era.......the game has changed far too much...........its not even the same game Lloyd and Levon played. In the Lambert era you could deck quarterbacks.....clothesline them, behead them.

We live in the hip-hop era, instant gratification and entertainment. Everythings a spectacle...the league isnt exempt from making the game a spectacle with its pre-kickoff concerts and live shows or its Super Bowl extravaganza. Its players want that spotlight too. Bettis danced after big runs. Problem ? Plaxico did the 1st down point when he played early on for the Steelers.........problem ?

I got no problem wit it............we want em showing fire and emotion dont we ?

Best TD celebration and first down celebration ever, and it is not even close:

Barry Sanders: immediately look for the closest official and toss him the ball. Act like you've done this before and expect to do it again real soon. Lather, rinse, repeat

I don't live in the hip hop era, whatever the **** that is.

**** Deion Sanders.

I would rather they show their fire and emotion during the play, not after the whistle blows.

Hip Hop era my ***, more like the "hey look at me era".

Oh yeh...and **** Deion Sanders.

**** Deion. I don't like the showboating, but I get it when you are kicking a teams *** and you just scored a big TD.

When you are losing to a .500 or worse opponent and you just picked up 9 yards and you do anything but run back to the huddle, well all that does is confirm that the game is all about you and that you are a ******* idiot.

Sometimes I wonder if its a TEAM (STEELERS), or the players, on the field? A little respectful emotion, is GREAT, but show boat attention to me, well that's NOT a team. Deon, definitely wasn't a team player, just look at his 1/2 hearted tackling. I take thew bus celebration every time as he knew when and how much. Antonio / Bell, both celebrate a little excessive, CLOCK is a ticking while I do the first down salute. It also allows the opponent to substitute in, even when we are running the no huddle. Little selfish, but this is the NFL and a undisciplined team. Jack Lambert wasn't perfect, but he had a whole LOT more HEART than this team or anybody on it !!!!

As was I. And sadly I expected a penalty on the D back.

It's definitely different than it used to be. Like DIC, there are certain people I find funnier, more insightful or with whom I agree more often and to whom I would rather add rep more often. If that's fellating one another so be it. Just seems like you have to rep a couple dozen "meh" posts for every one you really feel deserves it.

Mitchell also needs to start showing up in games before he could be considered.

Don't forget Peezy.....not many more intimidating even amongst the active.

Yes and yes. Guess I'm old school.....

This....please.
