2017-2018 Pittsburgh Penguins

Pens picked up Josh Jooris ? He's an up and down forward. OK ?

No move by the Pens.
Hope Rutherford assembled a decent team for the push

Tampa may win the east.
I had hopes for a three peat, but damn the Bolts are loaded and well coached

Here's the thing. These big trades and FA signings don't always help. Sometimes players just don't fit and it just doesn't work. Remember when the NY Rangers used to get the BIG free agent every year, and always landed the big fish at the deadline? It got them exactly jack and ****. If it works, the Bolts are likely to win the East. But hockey is funny sometimes. First round of the 1993 playoffs comes to mind.

JT Miller also going to TB, and Patrick Maroon going to NJ. It just go a lot harder to get out of the east.

New Jersey obviously thinks they can win now. Not surprised by their moves, given who their GM is.

True, but I do admire Coach Cooper.
He's my 2nd fave coach aside from Sullivan.

Smart hockey sense and smart charismatic during interviews.
I wouldn't doubt him maximizing his roster.

Teams are stacking up to dethrone the Pens.
If the 3rd and 4th lines deliver, the Pens will be tough to stop.

I'm worried about the defense, scoring 5 goals should be a win

Eh Shero assembled a great roster in 2013.
The Pens got over confident heading into the playoffs.

Shero is decent. I don't see NJ going far

I'm thrilled with Brassard, he will make a difference. I have a feeling we are going to die by the Hunwick, Get Pedan on the phone and get his butt up here.

We'll find out pretty quickly, Pens play them 3 more times.

3:30pm - McDONAGH UPDATE - Hoo boy. For McDonagh and Miller, the Rangers will receive Vladislav Nemestnikov, Libor Hajek, Brett Howden, a 2018 first-round pick and a conditional second. I'm gonna sit down.

Without Grabner and Maroon I would agree. Those were two solid adds that he didn't have to give up the farm for.

Since we moved Cole, I was expecting to pick up a defensive defenseman.

What are your thoughts on the D now? Because I feel our D is weaker than it was before the deadline trades...

Preds made a ton of moves. They really want to be in the mix!

I think Letang better be as good as he can be. he is going to see heavy minutes. Even our second pairing is decent. It starts with the 3rd pairing and Hunwick. They haven't pulled up Pedan all year. He has had some good minutes at WBS. I hope he is ready. Besides Hunwick, the Pens lost a valuable shot blocker. That role needs to be filled.

The key will be if the offense can take the pressure off. Brassard is a great add and that will help.

On a positive note- Rutherford said in an interview that he will have Hornqvist signed tomorrow. Details are 5 years at 5.3M.

I'm happy to see Hornqvist locked up probably for what will be his career.
The beating he takes though, not sure he'll last 5 years

The Flyers are now first in the Metro. Pens have slipped to 3rd. We play the Devils tonight and they are only 4 points behind. Talk about a tight race !

What I like is the goal differential for the Pens has greatly improved.

Jarry and Simon sent down. DeSmith back up. I expect Murray will be a game time decision. Let's go Pens !

I read an article that the Pens were trying to get Jordie Benn out of Montreal all the way up to the deadline, but that the asking price was too high. The article did not mention what that price was though. So JR tried to address the defense. Just didn't work out.
